Suggested Criteria for Nominating Students
The following are some suggested criteria for choosing Project CAFE students:
1. Students will have these traits that are visible and consistent over time:
- Take risks in learning the language and in classroom environment
- Demonstrate and aptitude and/or enthusiasm for world languages
- Possess an awareness of and sensitivity to the language ability of peers
- Help and encourage their classmates to succeed in acquiring language
- Voluntarily/naturally assume teacher role in pair work or whole class instruction
- Consistently help others learn the language (either as a tutor or volunteer)*
2. Students who are active participants in programs that demonstrate a commitment to building the world language teaching pipeline. Some examples of these programs include (but are not limited to):
- District level Grow Your Own Programs
- Teacher Cadet programs
- ACTFL’s Educator Rising Chapter
Selection Process:
Teachers select student(s) based on the above suggested criteria and submit student name(s) to FLANC via the Project CAFE website for recognition and celebration at the spring conference.
*Remember: Project CAFE is a teacher recruitment tool, not an academic achievement platform. The students whom you nominate may or may not be your top students academically.
