Dear Valued Customer,
On behalf of Matson,
Due to increasing concern for the safety of transporting vehicles powered by large lithium-ion batteries, Matson is suspending acceptance of used or new electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles for transport aboard its vessels.
Effective immediately, we have ceased accepting new bookings for these shipments to/from all trades.
Matson continues to support industry efforts to develop comprehensive standards and procedures to address fire risk posed by lithium-ion batteries at sea and plans to resume acceptance of them when appropriate safety solutions that meet our requirements can be implemented.

Please remember to transition your bill of lading documents to non-KFF after April 11, unless there is a specific need for this service. Please speak to your Customer Service Representative or Account Executive if you need additional support or guidance on the process.

Dear Valued Customer,
On behalf of Matson:
As you are likely aware, the volcano Mount Spurr, located 80 miles west of Anchorage, is experiencing increased seismic activity. The Alaska Volcanic Observatory (AVO) recently stated that a volcanic eruption there was “likely, but not certain, to occur within the next few weeks or months.” As of this morning, AVO’s posted eruption Alert Level was at Yellow, or “Advisory” (https://avo.alaska.edu).
If Mount Spurr erupts, it is not certain that wind conditions would push the ashfall to Anchorage, but it has occurred during Mount Spurr eruptions in 1953 and 1992. If ashfall does occur in Anchorage in the coming weeks or months, there will likely be some impact to Matson operations - depending on specific conditions at the time. Volcanic ash is highly corrosive and can impact people as well as machinery.
The purpose of this Advisory is to make you aware of the potential impact as well as actions we all can take to safeguard equipment and make the return to normal operations as quick as possible:
If you have any questions, please contact your Transportation Consultant or Customer Service Team at (800) 642-6664.
We thank you for your business!
March 28, 2025
Dear Valued Customer,
On behalf Matson:
Due to severe weather slowing its transit, R.J. Pfeiffer 555E will arrive in Tacoma late tomorrow, Saturday March 29. As a result, our departure will also be late. Our current ETD is Sunday morning, March 30.
The vessel is estimated to depart Oakland approximately 24 hours late and will arrive in Honolulu on Sunday morning, April 6.
In order to regain schedule, R.J. Pfeiffer 556 E will omit Tacoma on its next voyage and will only call Oakland. R.J. Pfeiffer 557 W will depart Oakland on time early Tuesday morning, April 15. Due to the Tacoma bypass, there will be no eastbound freight to Tacoma on R.J. Pfeiffer 556E.
For Tacoma customers, we will activate reserve vessel Maunalei to sail in place of R.J. Pfeiffer 557W. Maunalei 200W will be on time departing Tacoma April 11 and plan to arrive early in Honolulu on April 18.
Normal cut offs will apply to all sailings.

Dear Valued Customer,
On behalf of Matson:
Please be advised the final sailings for the 2024 “Keep From Freezing” (KFF) season will be the northbound MTC264N departing from Tacoma on Friday, April 12, and the southbound MTC264S departing from Anchorage on Tuesday, April 16.
Customers may continue to request KFF service after these dates by marking bookings and paperwork accordingly. Some customers may wish to continue using KFF service for inland locations, such as Fairbanks, where lower temperatures may prevail. KFF surcharges will apply if this service is requested.
Please review existing bookings for future sailings to ensure KFF is correctly noted. Adjustments can be made online or by calling our Customer Service Center.
There will be a transition period after the season ends as we switch out insulated containers for non-insulated containers. During this time, customers may be issued a KFF container in lieu of a dry container. KFF surcharges will not apply unless an insulated container was specifically requested.

August 28, 2023
Dear Valued Customer,
On August 18th Tote Maritime Alaska announced that they will be rolling in a portion of their fuel surcharge into the base ocean freight charge. This adjustment is necessitated by the conversion of their vessels from ultralow-Sulfur diesel to liquified natural gas.
Odyssey Alaska will align our fuel surcharge assessment by reducing the fuel surcharge by 8% and increasing the base ocean charge for water transportation by 6.4%, ensuring the net costs remain the same.
The team at Odyssey Alaska will be working to transition all of our current agreements, contracts and rate schedules to adopt these changes effective October 1, 2023. Your Odyssey Alaska Transportation Consultant will be reaching out soon to implement these changes and answer any questions that may arise.
If you have any questions, please contact your Transportation Consultant or Customer Service Team at (800) 642-6664.

Dear Valued Customer,
On behalf of Tote:
As many of you know, in late April TOTE Maritime Alaska completed the ten-year process of transforming its vessels’ fuel source from 100% ultralow-Sulfur diesel (ULSD) to dual-fuel capabilities with liquified natural gas (LNG).
This conversion project was the first of its kind given both the ORCA-Class vessel design as well as the medium-speed diesel engines each generating power for the electric-motor final drive. The benefits of this historic project give TOTE the ability to have a cleaner fuel source, while also allowing the flexibility to adjust back to ULSD when necessary.
The first few months of dual-fuel operation have entailed a near-constant, detailed study of fuel consumption – analyzing performance under a variety of weather conditions and speeds. Fuel-related cost versus BTU-output has also been under extreme scrutiny.
As a result of this essentially unprecedented vessel-operation study, TOTE Maritime Alaska will implement an adjustment to its ocean-fuel-related surcharge (FSC). Based on current fuel economics the result is as follows:
• All freight rates subject to FSC will be increased by 6.4%
• All freight rates increased in the manner described would utilize an FSC of 25%, resulting in an 8% reduction from current levels as well as a same/same gross cost for the Shipper before and after adjustment.
This adjustment will become effective on October 1, 2023. TOTE Maritime Alaska’s Sales and Pricing departments will collaborate to answer your questions and provide details be they tariff or contract related.
We’d like to express our gratitude for the support you've provided throughout this extensive process. Your ongoing partnership has been instrumental in this journey to better serve the communities of Alaska.
As we transition our fleet from ULSD to primarily LNG, we are truly excited about the positive impact this change will bring. With this step forward, TOTE is reaffirming its commitment to our customers and the communities we serve by utilizing the most emissions-conscious fuel on the market. Thank you once again for being an integral part of this endeavor.
If you have any questions, please contact your Transportation Consultant or Customer Service Team at (800) 642-6664.
We thank you for your business!
