Hi!  I'm Captain Jen Román, a career firefighter/paramedic with the City of Madison. I started my career in protective services as a volunteer EMT and dispatcher. I love the fact that every day at work is different! I'm Faculty for Madison College, and earned a Master of Science from UW-Madison in Adult and Continuing Education. I've been an active Girl Scout volunteer for over 25 years and I wish that every girl (and woman) would experience what Girl Scouts has to offer! In my spare time I love to dance, run and read. CampHERO is my 'dream come true’.

Linnea Anderson

I was a Girl Scout in Minnesota for 12 years, from Brownies to Cadettes! My favorite parts of scouting were the adventures: summer horse camp, a trip to Canada, making foil dinners and s'mores over the fire while camping many times in Northern Minnesota, and winter camping in a quinzee we built on a frozen lake. Now I look forward to a new camping experience every summer with one of my GS Troop #939 troop mates and best friends. In 1997 I took my first firefighting and EMS classes as a volunteer member of the Shorewood Hills Fire Department. I was fortunate to be hired by the City of Madison Fire Department in 1999. I've been working my dream job as a Firefighter/Paramedic with the MFD; every day is a new and challenging adventure.  Being a part of CampHERO is a delight as it combines some of my favorite things: camp, friends, teamwork, firefighting and EMS!

Lori Karst
Cous Cous

My name is Lori Karst, and I am a firefighter with the City of Madison Fire Department (MFD).  I decided I wanted a career with both a physical and a mental challenge.  I tried college athletics, then the military, and neither worked out.  I became a firefighter at age 20, first as a volunteer with my college town (Mankato, MN), then as a full-time firefighter with MFD.  It was an extremely conscious effort to be a firefighter in a city where there was already a history of women.  When CampHERO came around in 2012, it was the perfect fit for me.  I want to help girls at every age know that they can do this as a career, and I would love to see the presence of women on the fire ground increase.   I became a Girl Scout for the first time last year in 2012, at the prime age of 40+.  I love being a Girl Scout!  It wasn't my intention to wait so long.

I volunteer as a crew leader for CampHERO and look forward to helping all of the girls attending the camp! I graduated from UW-Madison with a degree in History and currently reside in the Village of Dane with my husband Justin, daughter Violet and our two dogs. I love to cook, garden and read. I truly believe in the mission of CampHERO and that girls coming into the camp can learn a lot about building upon the great qualities that they already have!

I have been working for the Madison Police Department as a Police Officer since May 2007. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree from UW-Milwaukee in Criminal Justice, and worked at a Boys & Girls Club in Milwaukee for two years before starting my career as a Police Officer. I have been working patrol for my entire career and enjoy the variety each day brings. I also assist with our K9 unit, serving as a decoy, where I get to dress up in a marshmallow suit or other equipment and take bites from the dogs, go for walks to the dogs can track me, hide in buildings or in the woods so they can find me, or assist in whatever else they need. I started volunteering for CampHERO in 2014, and have been back every year since! When I’m not at work or volunteering for camp,  I love being outside, working and playing with my dogs & spending time with my growing family.

Cameron Gasaway

I have done a total of 9 years in the fire and EMS services. 6 years with the US Marines as an aircraft fire rescue specialist and 4 years with the Madison WI fire department as a Firefighter and EMT. The reason why I wanted to become a firefighter was because I was raised in a family of firefighters. I got to see how much they helped in times when the family was the most in need. Lastly I loved how much the fire fighter gave back to the community no mater if it was during work hours or not.
