Hi! I am an Instructor at Madison College in Protective Services EMS Division, an Insurance Examiner and an AEMT volunteer in the community in which I live. I was raised on a dairy farm. I have 10 siblings (8 girls and 3 boys) and all of our names begin with the letter “L”, even our parents! Growing up on a dairy farm with cows to milk and 300 acres to manage, girls in our family learned very early on that girls can do anything. I could operate all the tractors and all of the equipment on the farm. I will say safety was always first and I enjoyed the physical work. Much of our free time was spent out under the willow tree sharing adventures, riding horses or attending rodeos, and watching our brothers compete. I still love riding horses, hiking, biking, boating, and snowmobiling and recently acquired my motorcycle license. Family, friends and sharing adventures are key to enjoying this journey we are on and I look forward to supporting everyone during their CampHERO adventure!

I’m Sara Grade and have been a volunteer firefighter since 2009 in the Village of Dane. I can’t explain how rewarding it has been to be a part of the protective services organization. I will be volunteering as a camp leader for CampHERO and look forward to helping all of the girls attending the camp! I graduated from UW-Madison with a degree in History and currently reside in the Village of Dane with my husband Justin and our two dogs. I love to cook, garden and read. I truly believe in the mission of CampHERO and that girls coming into the camp can learn a lot about building upon the great qualities that they already have!
I work for the City of Madison as a Firefighter at Station 10. My dream to become a firefighter started when I was in high school and being mentored by by a member of my hometown fire department. I like to ski, bike, play frisbee, and anything water sports. I love CampHERO and am honored to help out.
Hi, my name is "Oscar" and this is my third CampHERO. I've been a Firefighter/EMT for 5 years now, and I currently work for Hudson Fire District in Hudson, Colorado. I look forward to meeting new campers that I can share my enthusiasm for the Fire Service with. See you there!
I’m Will Beatty, and I serve as an Advanced EMT on Lake Mills EMS, the City of Monona Fire Department, and the Madison Mallards first aid team and work as a Nursing Assistant for St. Mary’s Hospital in Cardiac Post-Op. I am a nursing student intent on becoming a Critical Care Flight Nurse, a career choice fostered by my time spent in EMS. I have been an EMT for almost 3 years, and am a huge fan of leading EMS events for Camp HERO because of the mental recharging that happens for all of us to see the enthusiasm that the girls bring to our career field, and the impact that I see made on the girls confidence and self perception of the accessibility of the protective services to them as a career. See you at Camp!!
I am a UW nursing graduate and have been in emergency care since, including teaching paramedics. I am a healing touch practitioner. I was a Girl Scout from 2nd through 8th grade in Great Blue Heron Council and am a ‘cheese head’ for life! I am eternally curious, a perpetual reader and an avid gardener. I love singing, hockey, Bucky Badger, campfires and swimming. My husband and I live with our two cats.
Hi! I was a Brownie and a Girl Scout when I was young. I have been a registered nurse since 2010 and currently work in an Urgent Care clinic setting. Prior to becoming a nurse, I worked as a ramp employee for Northwest Airlines from 1996 to 2006. I guided in planes and loaded/unloaded luggage. I even brought in a couple planes dressed in my full Wonder Woman costume! (It was Halloween) I have been a licensed massage therapist since 2000 and still do that on the side. In my spare time, I enjoy dancing, live music, gardening, travel and being crafty. I also like DIY projects inside and outside of my home and riding my Harley. This will be my first year (2016) volunteering for CampHERO and I'm very excited. I think it's a great cause and girls can do ANYTHING they set out to do!
I have been involved in EMS & Fire since 2011. Growing up, I had many friends in Girl Scouts, & was invited to participate in many activities. I always had lots of fun, and loved learning new things with my friends! I grew up in a small town in IL, & became interested in EMS after graduating high school. I joined a volunteer department where I took an EMT class and fell in love with firefighting. Along with graduating with two bachelor degrees, I also have attained my basic firefighter certification, Hazmat Operations, Paramedic license, and CPR instructor certification. I also have volunteered with the American Red Cross, and enjoy teaching classes to kiddos of all ages. I am a volunteer firefighter in Cross Plains WI, and work as a Paramedic. I love to spend my time reading, working on crafts, and gardening. I am so excited to be a part of CampHERO!
Hi! My name is Tiffany and I am a Fire/Rescue Specialist with Volk Field Fire Department. I’m an EMT and CPR Instructor. I used to be a football player but right now I’m focused on tackling cancer! Hello, my name is Zulma Franco. I have been a police officer with the City of Madison PD for six years. I worked mainly nights. I am also involved with Amigos en Azul and have participated with the Latino Youth Academies for the past 4 years. I was born in Bogota Colombia and grew up in Los Angles. I have three children, and in my spare time I enjoy house projects, exercising, and just hanging out with family and friends.
I have been working for the Madison Police Department as a Police Officer since May 2007. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree from UW-Milwaukee in Criminal Justice, and worked at a Boys & Girls Club in Milwaukee for two years before starting my career as a Police Officer. I have been working patrol for my entire career and enjoy the variety each day brings. I also assist with our K9 unit, serving as a decoy, where I get to dress up in a marshmallow suit or other equipment and take bites from the dogs, go for walks to the dogs can track me, hide in buildings or in the woods so they can find me, or assist in whatever else they need. I started volunteering for CampHERO in 2014, and have been back every year since! When I’m not at work or volunteering for camp, I love being outside, working and playing with my dogs & spending time with my growing family.
