Why do we collect this personal information?

Any personal data you provide to Duolingo (i) will be used to process your application for the specific position you have applied for, and (ii) will be used to process your application for other current and future open positions within Duolingo which may be suitable to you if you choose to be considered beyond the role you have applied for.

Our legal basis for processing your data

Your personal data will be processed for the purposes of managing Duolingo’s recruitment related activities, which include setting up and conducting interviews and tests for applicants, evaluating and assessing the results thereto, and as is otherwise needed in the recruitment and hiring processes. Such processing is legally permissible under Art. 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation as necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by the Controller, which are the solicitation, evaluation, and selection of applicants for employment.

How will we use your information?

Your personal data will be shared with Greenhouse Software, Inc., a cloud services provider located in the United States of America and engaged by Duolingo to help manage its recruitment and hiring process on Controller’s behalf. Accordingly, if you are located outside of the United States, your personal data will be transferred to the United States once you submit it through this site.

During the screening and interview process we will review your application and the information you have provided to us. Where it is directly relevant to the role you’ve applied to at Duolingo, we may view your public information that you have posted online, primarily on social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

How long will we keep your information?

We will retain your personal data for as long as required to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and to enforce our contractual agreements, or as necessary for our legitimate interests, such as to consider you for other current and future employment opportunities at Duolingo.

If you're successful in your application for a position at Duolingo, we retain the information that you provide during the application process, and information about your application process, as part of your employee records.

If you do not want us to retain your information for consideration for other roles, or want us to update it, please contact recruitmentteam@duolingo.com. Please note, however, that we may retain some information if required by law or as necessary to protect ourselves from legal claims.
