‘Happiness Quotient @COVID Times’

To help children unwind during Summer Vacation and make this lockdown a memorable experience, Delhi Public R.K Puram under the able guidance of the Headmistress Ms. Niva Chhonkar and coordinators  – Ms. Pooja Khanduja, Ms. Anjana Virmani, Ms. Vinita Gupta and Ms. Shaloo Khanna organised  “Intersection Multidisciplinary Virtual Competitions 2020” for Classes VI to VIII. Events were planned in different subjects like English, Hindi, Maths, Science, Social Sciences and third Language.

“CHIDRANVESHI” – Roleplay from the epic, The Mahabharata

The History Department organised an intersection competition “CHIDRANVESHI” – “Roleplay from the epic, The Mahabharata for the History students of  Class XII on 9th June 2020. The event was judged by Pt. Vidya Prasad Mishra, a senior research faculty member at Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts.

An online virtual competition was organised on the 9th of June, 2020 for the history students of class XI, in which the students were required to submit a paper on the topic “Scientific ways of cleanliness in Indian tradition – How relevant are they in COVID times today”.

 Inter-section Music And Dance Online Competition

Intersection online musical extravaganza was organized by the Music and Dance Department of Delhi Public School, RK Puram on the 10th and the 11th of June, 2020 for Classes XI and XII. The online competition had six different categories, namely :  Chunauti – Indian Dance, The Art of Music – Western Instruments, Challenge – Western Dance, Symphony – Indian Instruments, Raise Your Voice – Western Vocal, and Swar Tarang – Indian Vocal respectively. Talented students participated and showcased their exceptional talents in the various events.  

Felicity 2020

To provide a platform for children to explore their creative instincts during the lockdown, Delhi Public School R.K. Puram organised Felicity 2020’, Intersection Multidisciplinary Online Competitions for the students of Classes IX and X from June 1- June 5, 2020 under the aegis of Headmistress Ms. Rashmi Malhotra and organising team- Ms. Surbhi Gupta, Ms. Sini Annie Abraham, Ms. Payal Sachdeva, Mr. Sanchit Chauhan, Ms. Deepika Parashri, Ms. Sanya Taneja, and Ms. Aakriti Mahajan. The technical support was provided by Mr. Mukesh Kumar HOD Computer Science, Ms. Sarika Kaushal and Mr. Thomas. Events were held for different subjects like English, Maths, Science, Social Sciences, Hindi, Sanskrit, Foreign Languages and Extra-Curricular Activities (Music, Dance and Art). It was a great opportunity for children to hone their skills and discover their talents through experiential learning during the summer break. E-Certificates were issued to achievers and participants.

CREATIVE CRAFTING

The Catalyst Club of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organised an ingenious event: CREATIVE CRAFTING(A competition on the making of bookmarks with slogans on Water Conservation) to bring out the concealed artist within a student and bring out the inventor within them,  on 16 December 2020.  The event was judged by Mr Amit Rajput, HOD Art Department and Ms Reema Khosla and organised by Ms Alinda Holla.

Lock Your Words Down

The Accountancy Department of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organized an online debate competition on 3rd June 2020 for the students of Class XI and XII.  The topic given to Class XI was ‘ The New Norm’ and for Class XII it was ‘Lockdown : Lives Vs Livelihood’. The judges evaluated the students on the basis of content, language, voice modulation and presentation.

 ‘ARTCOM’ – CARICATURE MAKING

The Accountancy Department of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organised an offline event – ArtCom. The participant was required to sketch a caricature (a picture, description or imitation of a person in which certain striking characteristics were to be exaggerated in order to create a comic effect). Topics and submission guidelines were given to the students. The entries were to be shared by 6th June 2020. The judges evaluated the students on the basis of creativity, presentation, originality and relevance of content. The results were as follows:

“Freeze Tolerant Fun”

Biology and Biotechnology club of Delhi Public School RK Puram organised the competition “Freeze Tolerant Fun” for the students. The competition consisted of the following 2 events:-

Poem the picture            

The participants were asked to choose a relevant picture related to biology or biotechnology and they had to use their creativity and explore the concepts of biology and write a poem based on this picture.

The event was won by Sheen Madan of IX-G

 Comic strip designing

The participants had to display their artistic abilities and create a comic strip which depicted some important and much acclaimed discoveries in the field of biology/biotechnology that revolutionised the way of living.

PEN IT DOWN (Poetry Competition)

An intersection Poetry writing competition was organised by the Sociology department on 11 June 2020 for the students of Class XII .The students were required to compose poems on the topic ‘Poetry in the time of Corona: Fighting the Pandemic’. The participants were judged on the overall impact of the poem, relevance to the topic, expression, creativity and originality by Ms. Binu Chanan and Ms. Sudeepta Chatterjee.

Aesthetics Of Theatre

The Expressions Theatre Club organised a theatre workshop on 10th June 2020. It was facilitated by Ms. Vaishali Chakravarty.  She portrayed an interesting picture of the aesthetics of theatre by compartmentalizing it into smaller components and explaining these in details. She emphasized on the importance of character development, character traits  and the sync between the time and space. She further focused on the creative aspect related to props and the settings which could transform the play significantly.  

.Class XII Intersection English Story Writing Competition

ONLINE

An online short story writing competition was organised for the students of class XII on 5 June 2020. Students were provided with online prompts depicting different emotions like anger, happiness, admiration, contempt and envy, to name a few. They were given 20  minutes to write a story with their cameras on, in 40 words. After having completed their story they had to read it out and the judges present evaluated them on their creativity, language and a coherent storyline with a soul.  Results -

‘Eppexpression’- Case Analysis

A case analysis intersection virtual competition was organised by the Department of Business Studies on 5th June 2020. In this competition, participating teams from each section of Class XI and XII, were required to present loopholes in the existing business application allotted as per the section through a digital presentation. Each team was allotted 5 minutes to present. They could either present individually or as a team of two students.

The Geography Department organised an Intersection Powerpoint Presentation Activity on 12 June 2020 for Class XI, where each participant expressed their thoughts with the help of a Powerpoint Presentation on the subject – Nature before and after Lockdown. The event was judged by Ms Arti Trivedi and Ms Mahima Goel and coordinated By Mrs Sangita Bajpai and Mrs Vinita Gupta. Mrs Rupa Das, HOD Geography Department addressed the students with words of encouragement.

The Art Department organised an intersection virtual event on 10th June 2020, for Classes XI and XII focusing upon positivity and optimism during the present scenario and circumstances. The students were asked to choose one from four well-known poems to recite. The students participated with enthusiasm and infused life in those lines by their riveting voice modulation and verbal expressions. The Economics Department of DPS RK Puram organised an Online Poster Making Competition – Agenda 5.0 – for the students of Economics of Class XII. In the competition the participants created a digital poster explaining a 5-point agenda that the Indian Economy should follow to fastrack growth in the post COVID-19 era by June 3, 2020. DPS R.K. Puram hosted its much-awaited Virtual Scholar Badge Ceremony for Class XII, sections L to X, on 27 November 2020. The theme for the event was ‘You are a mindset away from winning battles’.We were honoured to have Mr. V.K. Shunglu, Chairman, Delhi Public School Society and Managing Committee DPS R.K. Puram as the Chief Guest and Mr. Mayank Singh, Counsellor, Permanent Mission of India, United Nations as the Guest of Honour.

 

DPS R.K. Puram hosted its much-awaited Virtual Scholar Badge Ceremony for Class XII, sections A to K, on 29 November 2020. The theme for the event was ‘You are a mindset away from winning battles’. We were honoured to have Mr. B.K. Chaturvedi, Vice Chairman, Delhi Public School Society and Managing Committee DPS R.K. Puram as the Chief Guest and Mr. Anurag Tripathi, Secretary, Central Board of Secondary Education as the Guest of Honour.

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram hosted the annual Scholar Badge Ceremony for Class XI(sections A - J) on 15 January 2021, via the virtual platform of Zoom. The theme for the event this year was “A diamond earns its sparkle from the pressure it endures”. The esteemed Chief Guest for the day was Dr. Joseph Emmanuel, Director of the Central Board of Secondary Education, India. Dr Amitabha Bagchi, Professor, Dept. of Computer Science & Engg., Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, kindly consented to be the Guest of Honour.

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram hosted its much-celebrated Virtual  Scholar Badge Ceremony for class X on December 4, 2020. The theme for the event was, ‘The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows.’The ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Ms. Vrinda Sarup, Member of the DPS Society and the Managing Committee of DPS R.K. Puram and Mr. Aakash Chaudhary, Managing Director and Co-Promoter of Aakash Educational Services Ltd., as the Guest of Honour.

CLASS IX

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram hosted the annual Scholar Badge Ceremony for Class IX on 19 December 2020 via the virtual platform of Zoom. This year’s event derived its theme from a Pablo Picasso quote – “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” The esteemed Chief Guest for the day was Ms. Namita Pradhan, Member of the Delhi Public School Society and the Managing Committee of DPS R.K. Puram. Mr. Dharmendra Sharma, the Senior Deputy Election Commissioner, and alumnus of DPS R.K. Puram, kindly consented to be the Guest of Honour.

CLASS VIII

Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram hosted its eagerly awaited, prestigious Virtual Scholar Badge Ceremony for class VIII on December 12, 2020. The theme of the event was ‘A winner is a dreamer who never gives up.’The ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Dr. Kiran Datar, Member of the DPS Society and Managing Committee of DPS R.K. Puram and Mr. Prabhjeet Singh, President of UBER India and South Asia as the Guest of Honour.

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organised the much-awaited scholar badge ceremony for class VII on 29 January 2021, via the virtual platform Zoom. The theme for this year’s event was – ‘Little things make big days.’ The honourable Chief Guest for the day was Shri Balbir Singh, the Add’l Solicitor General of India, Supreme Court. Dr. Ambuj Roy, Professor of Cardiac Surgery, AIIMS, and an alumnus of R.K. Puram, kindly consented to be the Guest of Honour.

VIRTUAL Orientation Session For Class XII-(2020-21)

A Virtual Orientation session was held for the parents of students of class XII on 13th and 14t
April 2020. The parents met the Principal Ms Padma Srinivasan, the Vice Principal Ms Renu Nayar, Class Representatives, Class teachers and the subject teachers in the virtual classrooms.

Orientation Programme for the Parents of Class XI

An orientation program and an academic counselling session were held for parents of class XI students on 16 April 2019 from 2:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.The first academic session was held was for sections –A, B, C, D, F, G, J, K, N, V, W &X.The second academic session was held for sections – E,H, I,L,M,O,P,Q,R,S,T,U.A

Class X Virtual Orientation Program(2020-21)

An online orientation program was organised for parents of Class X students on 15 April,2020. The orientation program focussed on introducing the parents to the respective teachers,to share the curriculum of various subjects and to acquaint the parents with the framework and processes of the online classes being conducted for the students.

CLASS IX Virtual Orientation Programme

A Virtual Orientation programme was organised for the parents of class IX students on Tuesday 21 April 2020 and on Wednesday 13 May 2020 (New Admissions). The purpose of the Orientation Programme was to introduce the parents to the respective class teachers and subject teachers as well as to introduce them to the curriculum of the various subjects.

Virtual Orientation Programme for the Parents of Classes VI-VIII

A Virtual Orientation Programme was organized for the parents of the students of classes VI, VII and  VIII on 16, 17 and 20 April 2020 respectively. The purpose of the Orientation Programme was to introduce the parents to the respective class teachers and subject teachers as well as to introduce them to the curriculum of the various subjects.

Stream Orientation Session Class X

Virtual Career Counselling sessions were organized by DPS R.K.Puram for students and parents of class X on 4th and 6th January 2021 to orient students about the various career options in all the three streams Science, Commerce and Humanities.

The first session on 4th January was on “Conventional and Technical Courses (Mainly Sciences)”. The speaker for the session was Mr. P.K.Sharma, Assistant Director at Aakash Institute.

The second session – unconventional and Professional Careers (Mainly Commerce and Humanities) was organised on 6th Jan 2021. The speaker for the session was Ms. Shilpa, Counsellor at Mindler Educational Institute.

FAREWELL 2021

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram hosted an online farewell ceremony for the Class XII batch of 2020-21 on 17 April. An enthusiastic and sentimental Class XIth took great pride in organising this ceremony to bid adieu to their seniors, who are now all set to embrace the challenging world ahead.

‘Art Poetica’ – Dr Prem Kirpal Memorial Interschool Art and Poetry Competitions.

Delhi Public School R.K. Puram hosted the annual Dr Prem Kirpal Memorial Inter-School Art and Poetry Competition on 22 December 2020  virtually, on Google Meet in loving memory of Dr Prem Kirpal, the former Chairman of the DPS Society. The Performing Arts Society of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organised ‘Echoes Naad-Ninaad’, the annual inter-school music festival, from 29 – 30 January 2021. Independence Day Celebrations – Biology Style!

Even the Novel Coronavirus that was running haywire, dismantling lives, couldn’t dampen the spirits here at D.P.S., R.K. Puram, where Independence Day was rung by the teachers and students of the Biology and Biotechnology departments in full fervour by organising and participating in some wonderful and innovative online activities.The main activity of the Biotechnology department consisted of each of the participants explaining a concept of Biotechnology along with its principle and significance by the means of neatly labelled, colourful diagrams… the catch being that the diagrams had to be illustrated in the colours of the National Flag of our country!  

Independence Day Science Activity- Classes VI-VII

Independence Day Science Activities were organised from 10th August-15th August 2020 for the students of Classes VI-VIII to celebrate the spirit of patriotism on the 74th Independence Day. The topic was ‘Development and Innovation in the Field of Science & Technology since Independence’. Students were asked to prepare an illustration in the form of collage, poster, comic strips, cartoons or mind map, giving a suitable caption, based on the topic.

To mark the 74th Independence Day of India, Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram held a week-long celebration. The different  departments of the school organised myriad virtually interactive events and competitions for the students. These trying times did not pose an obstacle in  the spirit of pride and patriotism in the students as they participated in these events with great zeal and enthusiasm.

Constitution Day Celebrations 2020- Essay Writing Competition

As part of the annual Constitution Day Celebrations on the 26th of November, the Department of Political science under the able guidance of Ms Vandana Chandoke, conducted an offline Essay Writing Competition on Constitution related themes in about 750 words for classes XI and XII.

Celebrating Green Diwali

In order to make the students of Delhi Public School, R.K Puram aware of environmental pollution and health hazards due to  extensive bursting of firecrackers and to make them ambassadors of change to celebrate an Eco Friendly and Green Diwali, a number of competitions were organised for the students of classes VI-VIII during the Diwali week from 9th to 12th November 2020.The students participated in these competitions with great zeal and enthusiasm.

Christmas Celebrations 2020 Classes VI-VIII

In an attempt to  keep the spirit of Christmas alive and thriving during these crucial  times,  Classes VI to VIII under the guidance of Ms. Niva Chhonkar (Headmistress VI-VIII),  celebrated Christmas with great enthusiasm and optimism. Despite being constrained within the four walls of their home, the children endeavoured to celebrate Christmas to the best of their abilities.

CHRISTMAS CORNER DECORATION COMPETITION- The students were asked to prepare a Christmas Corner in their house by using the waste materials. In addition to this, they were also asked to create decorations and other significant symbols pertaining to Christmas using various craft items.The competition was judged by Ms. Binu Chanan and Ms. Neelam Ajwani. The criteria for judgement was actual waste material used, innovation and creativity, usability and practicality of the object made. The students gave shape and form to their ideas, and displayed their talent with utmost enthusiasm.

Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organized a series of sessions for the students of classes VI to VIII in the winter break. The aim of the Winter Delight activities was to aid the holistic growth and development of the students. These activities were organised with the objective of ensuring student engagement, productivity and fun-filled learning.The activities were organised from 4 January 2020 to 8 January 2020 on 10 am to 11.30 am.

Cake time – Making a Cheesecake  session was a very informative and engaging session held on 5 January 2021.The session was conducted by Mr. Jai Kishan Balchandani  and  Chef Abhas Jain from Indian school of Hospitality, Gurgaon.

Pen & Scissors – Stipple Art, Origami

The artistic session helmed by two presenters held on 6 January 2021 introduced two new activities to the audience. Ms Sanya Gupta, a freelance artist and an alumna of Delhi Public School, RK Puram introduced the technique of creating Stipple Art.The second session was conducted by Ms Jatinder Kaur, PGT Art at Delhi Public School, RK Puram. Ms Jatinder showed a new and interesting way of creating origami flowers and leaves.

The ‘Health Talk’ session held on 7 January 2021 included simple routine tips, ones worthy to incorporate into our lifestyle. The session began with Dr. Amit Vij, M.D. Dermatology, throwing light upon how important it is to take care of our scalp, our skin and nourish them. He also advised towards the type and use of oil and moisturizers on our scalp and skin respectively. The role of a healthy nutritious diet also goes a long way to maintain a healthy skin.

Dr Parijat Chandra, Professor Ophthalmology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, provided valuable insight to taking care of our eyes, especially during these times and age where the dependence on electronic media has increased for education and relaxation.

“Stitch in time – Embroidery Show & Mask Making”

The session  ‘stitch in time’ was very informative and interesting for the students , held on 8 January 2021 . Ms. Niharika Suneja taught simple techniques of stitching which is essential for everyday life and to make us self reliant.

Sweet Beginnings-Learning to Make Kada Prashad

On the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, an Online Workshop titled ‘Sweet Beginnings: Learning to make Kada Prashad’ was organized by the Health and Wellness Club of DPS RK Puram on 27 November 2020, for the students of class VI and VIII. The workshop was conducted by Ms. Pushpa Joshi – Assistant Director, Education Partnerships at Indian school of Hospitality, Gurgaon and Chef Gaurav Prasher – Associate Director, Culinary and Practical Arts, Indian School of Hospitality, Gurgaon.

Plantation Drive

A plantation drive was carried out on 13 August, 2020 at DPS R.K  Puram as a part of the DoE’s Van Mahotsav celebration. Saplings were planted by the Principal, Ms. Padma Srinivasan and the two Headmistresses, Ms. Rashmi Malhotra and Ms. Niva Chhonkar. Ms Dimple Menon and Ms. Neelam Ajwani from the biology department organized the plantation drive.The saplings planted included trees like Guava, Jamun and Pomelo (Citrus maxima), shrubs, like bougainvillea and rose  and herbs like Sansevieria and Periwinkle.

Ayaas Prayas Charitable Trust

The school recently collaborated with a charitable trust ‘Ayaas Prayaas’ to effectuate collaborative learning through academic resource sharing and online classes for students from underprivileged backgrounds. On 29 January 2021, the Principal Ms Padma Srinivasan along with the Social Service League in-charge, Ms Preeti Pratihari, the club appointees and Ms Kaumudi Sharma, founder of the Ayaas Prayas Charitable Trust inaugurated the blessed initiative of imparting quality education.

Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Campaign

Antimicrobial Awareness Campaign was organised for school children by DirectorateGeneral Health service, Government of India in association with WHO country office for India, NCDC(National Centre for Disease control) and DSPRUD( Delhi Society for Rational use of Drugs). Ms Kajal Sethi ( Biology Department) and Ms Shruti Gupta (Chemistry Department) were trained online on the theme- “United we stand to preserve the Antimicrobials”. Both the teachers conducted online sessions for the students of classes VII, VIII , IX and XI, where they were sensitized about Antimicrobial Awareness through slideshare , discussion with the class teacher and followed by a quiz.

Quiz on Psychological Disorders

On 20th November 2020, the school Psychology Club conducted a quiz on psychological disorders. The purpose of the quiz was to test the aptitude and intellectual prowess of the students of class XII.  Out of the 13 students who participated, the ones who stood out and secured positions are as follows:

Skit Competition on Human Rights

Human rights are basic rights that belong to all of us simply because we are human. They embody key values in our society such as fairness, dignity, equality and respect. They are an important means of protection for us all, especially those who may face abuse, neglect and isolation. The Human Rights Day is celebrated every year on 10th December since its proclamation in 1948.This day is observed to protect the fundamental human rights of all people and their basic human freedom.

‘MY COMBO ROCKS’ : Cooking a Healthy Dish

‘MY COMBO ROCKS’: Cooking a healthy dish event organised by Nutrition & Wellness Club,Biology Department.Nutrition & Wellness Club  under “Eat Right School” activities by FSSAI conducted the event ‘My combo rocks’ on December19,2 020 at 10:30 a.m. forClasses VI to VIII. The aim of this activity was to promote healthy food choices and to develop a positive connection of the student with different types of foods including fruits and vegetables, which are essential at the growing stage.

Not All Disabilities Are Visible-the International Day Of Persons With Disabilities

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed on 3 December. This year’s theme was a call for resonance and inclusiveness towards people with disabilities and an understanding that ‘Not all disabilities are visible’ such as mental illness, chronic pain or fatigue, learning differences amongst others. These disabilities are often overlooked and misunderstood which might prevent further open conversations regarding them.

Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram’s Psychology Club organized a presentation for the grade XI psychology students  The purpose of the presentation was to inculcate awareness among the fellow students about disabilities both physical and mental .

Poetry Enactment Competition On ‘The Importance Of Empathy’

The Psychology Club of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organised an online Poetry Enactment competition for class XI on 25 November, 2020. The topic for the competition was ‘The Importance of Empathy’. The aim of this competition was to raise awareness about empathy and its significance, especially during these trying times.

With as many as 14 students participating in pairs, one could catch a glimpse of the exceptional talent of the students of our school. On hearing the multiple beautiful poems written and being enacted, our esteemed judge, Ms. Archana Anthwal declared the winners. Aanya Roy (XI-X) and Saanvi Sekhri (XI-W) secured 1st position, Raavi Bajaj (XI-V) and Prakriti Panwar(XI-U) secured 2nd position, followed by Raaina Suryawanshi (XI-U) and Mehak Aggarwal (XI-V) in the 3rd position.

 Eco-Friendly Diwali Competition organized by TERI School of Advanced Studies

‘Celebrate Diwali Differently’ was organized by TERI School of Advanced studies in which  students in the age group 11 – 14 years participated from our school..

In the event ALANKRIT the students had to decorate a space in their house using eco-friendly materials and send pictures. ANIKA GOEL of Class VII C and AANYA KHANNA of Class VII E secured Second  Position in this  event in the age category of 11 – 14 years.

Food And Nutrition Activities On Occasion Of Festivals’

Food and Nutrition related activities were organised for the students of Classes VI-VIII during the festive month of November 2020 in their Science Period. To promote healthy eating habits the students were asked to prepare a healthy dish at home and submit the recipe along with its photographs under ‘Iam what I eat’. They presented the video of their recipe in the homeroom period. In another activity ‘Check before you eat’ , the students demonstrated the tests for the presence of adulterants in common food items like Tumeric, frozen peas, chilly powder.

BACK TO BASICS: Bamboo Drip Irrigation System

Water Conservation is the need of the hour and every drop of water counts.As a part of Water Conservation Activity, on October 21,2020 in the School garden,a new type of Drip Irrigation System using split bamboo with tiny holes was set up to water the potted plants.This idea was given by the Officiating Principal, Ms Padma Srinivasan and implemented by Ms Niva Chhonkar, Headmistress (VI-VIII)

Observation of Mental Health Week from 4th to 10th October 2020

Mental Health Week was observed from 4th to 10th October, 2020 on the occasion of World Mental Health Day on 10th October, 2020.During the Mental Health Week, activities such as Story Telling by Teachers, Making posters and writing Slogans was undertaken by the schools in an online mode. In all 910 students participated in the poster making competition , 91 students in slogan writing and 101 teachers narrated stories to the students highlighting different components of Mental wellbeing in classes Nursery to Class VIII.

Fit India Freedom Run 2020

DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL R.K. PURAM organized the  “Fit India Freedom Run” from 15th August – 2nd October 2020 to encourage fitness and help  get freedom from obesity, laziness, stress, anxiety and  diseases. The concept behind this run was that “It can be run anywhere, anytime!”

The Fit India Movement is a movement to take the nation on a path of fitness and wellness. It provides a unique and exciting opportunity to work towards a healthier India. As part of the movement, students and staff of Delhi Public School R.K. Puram and the Junior schools, East of Kailash and Vasant Vihar  have put in effort not only  for their own health and well-being but also for the health and well-being of fellow Indians. Activities undertaken  for this movement were running,walking,cycling,jogging etc. More than 40000 Kms have been covered by the participants (students and staff).It was indeed a pleasure to be a part of this great movement which ensured that physical fitness came with pleasure and fun.

  1. Spurthi Nimbali Giving Wings To Her Imagination By- ‘My Paper Boats’

‘’My Paper Boats” is a collection of 42 self-composed poems by a budding debut poet, Spurti Nimbali of Class IX-H.The book harbours an arbitrary set of poems  that showcase the mind of an ordinary, thirteen year old dreamer.  

       

2)2nd BMU Inter-School National Constitution Day Debate

26 November 2020 : The school team of : Drona Sharma (11 V), Shashank Sinha (11 U), Areeb Nabi (12 U) and Manhar Bansal (12U)  from the Debating Society participated in the 2nd BMU Inter-School National Constitution Day Debate organised by the Law School of the BML Munjal University on 26 November 2020.

After qualifying the three successive preliminary rounds held on 22 November;  beat the defending champions – Modern School, Barakhamba Road in the semi finals. The finals were conducted between DPS RK Puram and La Martiniere School, Kolkata. The school team came second, with a narrow margin.

3)Winner Sanskrit Sambhashan Pratiyogita

Parth Kumar of Class X-K secured the Second position in The Indian School – Sanskrit Vachan Kaushal pratiyogita, an event held on 22nd of December, 2020 which saw almost 22 participants compete for the coveted prize. Parth was awarded a certificate of appreciation and a cash prize of Rs 3000 in the Sanskrit award function held on 8th of January, 2021.

4)Winners of “I am…” competition By Berkeley University

The Earth’s CEO team under Professor Solomon Darwin,Professor, Berkeley University  invited the students of Delhi Public School R. K. Puram to participate in the “I am…” competition. In this competition students had to write about  the natural resources as assets and their feelings about their condition in the present scenario , what they could do to improve them or even about the important role they play in our lives. They were supposed to cite factual data in a creative manner and write an essay from the perspective of the asset chosen by them. Two students from class VI-K, Rehyaan Singh and Tarush Aran won this competition.

5)Best Performance in 13th Amity Sanskrit Olympiad

Amity International School, Saket organized the virtual Sanskrit Diwas programme on 7th of November,2020.

Parth Kumar of X-K secured the 1st position and received a cash prize of Rs 1500 and a Certificate of appreciation. Ishaan Semwal of class X-K and Maanya Sareen of class XI-V secured the 2nd position and received a prize of Rs 1200 and a certificate of appreciation. 177 students across 15 schools of Delhi and NCR participated in the olympiad wherein Delhi Public School, R.K Puram bagged the Overall Rolling Trophy 2019-2020.

7)Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam National E-debate Competition

Md. Armaan Firdousi  a student of Class VI F secured the  2nd Position in the “Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam National E-Debate Competition” (Hindi Debate Category) held on 5th July 2020.

8)National Winner Google India Code To Learn Challenge 2019-20

Anmol Singh Dhaliwal of class XII H received a certificate, an HP Chromebook and other Google branded gifts for being a national winner in the Machine Learning category of the Google India Code to Learn Challenge 2019-20. The competition involved creating a socially impactful machine learning project using Google Cloud AutoML. His submission was based on using Machine Learning to diagnose four retinal conditions – Choroidal Neovascularization, Diabetic Macular Edema, Drusen and Normal – from Ocular Optical Coherence Tomography scans.’

9)Vasant Valley- Laissez-Faire Quiz competition

Shikhar Sarangi of Class XII-R secured the third position in the Vasant Valley Laissez-Faire quiz, an event held on 31 July 2020 which saw almost 200 participants compete for the coveted prize. There were two rounds of elimination, which left just 4 schools in the final. The final was conducted in 8 stages.

10)Winner Aatmanirbhar Bharat Ideathon by HRD Ministry

Aryan Gulati of Class XII G  had recently taken part in the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Ideathon organized by the HRD Ministry and has been selected as the winner in the Sustainable Environment category for his project Lung AI: the COVID 19 detector for the Medical & Pharmacy Sector. He was also the only student at 17 who has been selected as a winner amongst the others much older than him and the closest being 32 years old.  He has been chosen as one of the 5 national winners among 5 categories of the Ideathon and will be awarded a cash prize of 2 lakhs to further implement his idea at the national level with the Government of India.  

Apart from, the software is currently under ICMR validation for further testing depending on which it may be used as India’s first ever Artificial Intelligence based COVID-19 Detector to further coronavirus testing in India.

11)Delhi Girl Among 15 Indians To Receive The Princess Diana Award

Outstanding young hero from india receives award in memory of Princess Diana

Samika Gupta, age 11, has been conferred with the prestigious Princess Diana Award for her humanitarian efforts among the slum children in Delhi to create and sustain positive change.

Samika inspires and motivates children living in slum conditions to recognise education as a way of improving their lives, teaching that essentials such as healthcare and food are a human right. She also helps to collect and distribute donations of food, clothing, books and toys, as well as volunteering in art and yoga workshops, health and dental clinics.

The chief guest for the event was the Dean of the School of Law and Justice, Adamas University. Anjali was declared the winner and was awarded a certificate and a cash price of Rs.500.

13)‘Gold Finalist’ Award

In June 2020, the Royal Commonwealth Society of London organized an essay writing competition for students. The theme of the 2020 competition was ‘Climate Action and the Commonwealth’. Praniti Gulyani of XI-U was awarded the ‘Gold Finalist’ award for her essay entitled ‘Change – A Way of Life’, out of over 13,000 entries worldwide.

1)Rendezvous with Mr. Siddhant Bhansali

The Economics, Business Studies and Accountancy Departments along with the Enship Club of Delhi Public School RK Puram organised a series of virtual webinars on the topic ‘My Entrepreneurial Experience’ in the month of December and January.The sixth webinar in the series was organised on January 17, 2021 for the students of Class IX and XI. The guest speaker, Mr. Siddhant Bhansali is an  active mentor and advisor to several startups in India. He has been working with technology companies for about 17 years and has mentored over 300 startups across multiple domains.

2)Fireside Chat with Mr Joy Bandekar
The Economics, Business Studies and Accountancy Departments along with the Enship Club of Delhi Public School RK Puram organised a series of virtual webinars on the topic ‘My Entrepreneurial Experience’ in the month of December. The fourth webinar in the series was organised on December 26, 2020 for the students of Class IX and XI. The guest speaker was Mr. Joy Bandekar,  Founding  Partner,  Udaan.com, a B2B ecommerce  platform. Mr Bandekar has over 25 years of experience across various industries, including 11 years in e-commerce across India and South East Asia. Prior to Udaan, he was working with Ola where he was the President – New Initiatives.

3)Interaction with Mr. Shubham Goel

The Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics departments along with the Enship Club of Delhi Public School R.K. Puram organised a series of webinars on the topic ‘My Entrepreneurial Experience’ in the month of December.

The third webinar in the series was organised on 19th December 2020 for the students of classes IX and XI. The guest speaker for the session was Mr. Shubham Goel, the co- founder of AFFINITY, the leading relationship and intelligence platform, based in Silicon Valley. He is an alum of the DPS RK Puram batch of 2012.

4) Session with Mr. Kunal Bahl

The Economics, Business Studies and Accountancy Departments along with the Enship Club of Delhi Public School RK Puram organised a series of virtual webinars on the topic “My Entrepreneurial Experience” on December 12, 2020 for the students of Class IX and XI. The guest speaker was Mr. Kunal Bahl, the CEO and co-founder of Snapdeal.com – India’s largest, value-focused e-commerce marketplace, connecting small businesses to buyers across the country. He is an alum of DPS R K Puram, Batch of 2001.

   

2) Interactive Session on GENDER SENSITIVITY for DPS RK Puram, Vasant Vihar and East of Kailash Staff

A Virtual Guest Speaker programme on ‘Gender Sensitivity’  was conducted for the teaching as well as non-teaching staff members of Delhi Public school, R.K. Puram, Vasant Vihar and East of Kailash on December 12, 2020, at 10.30.

A Virtual Guest Speaker programme on ‘Gender Sensitivity’  was conducted for the teaching as well as non-teaching staff members of Delhi Public school, R.K. Puram, Vasant Vihar and East of Kailash on 2.1.2021 at 10.30 am. Dr. Priti Dhawan, A doctorate in psychology from the University of Delhi, senior-most faculty member of the department in Lady Shri Ram College for Women, with over two decades of teaching, research and professional experience, addressed the gathering.

 Mathematical Explorations: Developing Mathematical Thinking Through Problem Solving.

The Mathematics Department of Delhi Public School R.K.Puram under the guidance of Mr.Anil Kathuria organised a Guest Speaker Programme on 10th and 11th June 2020 for the students of class XI and XII. The guest speaker was Dr.Jonaki Ghosh, a lecturer at the Department of Elementary Education, Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi. She spoke on the topic Mathematical Explorations: Developing Mathematical Thinking Through Problem Solving. She discussed the problems of the chessboard, the Friendship Theorem, the Monty Hall Problem and the Coin Weighing Problem with the students. Dr Jonaki Ghosh also discussed how a mathematical model helps in predicting the spread of an epidemic in context to the pandemic we all are going through.

Interaction With Aluminus Dr Sujata Sharma

The Think Club of D.P.S R.K Puram organised a live interactive session with Dr Sujata Sharma, an Indian structural biologist, biophysicist and a professor at the Department of Biophysics, AIIMS, Delhi which proved to be very informative, interesting, and interactive. She is known for her studies in the fields of protein structure, drug design and drug resistance of bacteria.

AN INTERACTIVE SESSION WITH SHRI ANURAG TRIPATHI

Delhi Public School RK Puram organised an interactive session with Shri Anurag Tripathi, Secretary, CBSE on December 17, 2020 to get an insight into CBSE Examinations for the session 2020-21.

  DM-Geoquest Interactive Story Telling Session

The DM-GEOQUEST club organised a storytelling session on 10 December 2020 at 5:15 pm on the topic “Nature and I”. The guest speaker Mrs Jyoti Pande as a well-known educationist, counselor, and an established storyteller. She is part of the elite resource pool for NCERT, Regional Institute (RIE), at Bhopal and Ajmer, and undertakes training sessions on counselling skills for the teachers of KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA and NAVODAYA VIDYALAYA on a regular basis. She is also a resource person for TISS (Tata School of Social Sciences).

Interaction with Ms. Eryn Andrews Astronaut/Flight Control Engineer at Nasa, Houston

This event was organised by the Think Club. Students of Classes 9th and 10th participated in a live interactive session with Ms. Eryn Andrews on 1st December 2020.

Ms Eryn Andrews,an experienced engineer with several years supporting the International Space Station (ISS) in various roles, She is highly knowledgeable in ISS structure, facilities, and operations and is dedicated to space exploration.

Bacterial Plasmid Isolation & DNA Electrophoresis

The students of sections A, B and C of Class XII of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram were treated to an immersive experience on Bacterial Plasmid Isolation and DNA electrophoresis conducted by Dr. Tripti Bhatnagar from Codon Biotech on the online forum of Google Meet on November 2, 2020. She elucidated the isolation of bacterial extra chromosomal DNA by the alkaline lysis method.

19 The Bubbling Cauldron 2020-21 Edition

The artistic endeavours of the students of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram and its junior schools, DPS East of Kailash and DPS Vasant Vihar are showcased in this edition of The Bubbling Cauldron 2020-21. It bears the creatively crafted stories and exceptionally deep verses penned by our budding literary geniuses. This edition is distinctive from those that preceded it,  as it is for the first time that it has been released as an ebook- a necessary and much valued medium in this age of the pandemic.

Interactive Session On Cyber Security

Delhi Public School R. K. Puram, conducted an interactive session  on CYBER CRIME  on February 20, 2020 at the AVH. The students of Classes VI- VIII were the audience for this enlightening session which was presided over by Mr. Anuj Agarwal, Cyberexpert, the Trainer for the Police Force under the Cyber Cell. This session was  a part of DELHI POLICE WEEK (16.02.20-22.02.20).

20. CLUB EVENTS

Vox Populi ’20- The Voice Of The People

The DPSMUN and DPSRKP Youth Parliament Club under the guidance of the department of Political Science and Legal Studies organized Vox Populi ’20 – The Voice of the People on 10th June 2020 from 11:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. using the G-Suit Google Hangout Meet for the students of classes XI and XII.

Five committees were simulated and the Press Corps covered the entire event.

Digex Society, 

the Photography and Filmmaking Club of Delhi Public School R.K. Puram, organised its annual fest on November 7 2020, providing a platform to budding photographers and filmmakers from over 70 schools to showcase their photographic expertise.

Exun 2020 – International IT Symposium

The Annual IT Symposium ‘Exun 2020’ was hosted by Exun Clan, the Technology Club of Delhi Public School, RK Puram  for the 25th time in ‘Exun Week’, from 15th to 22nd November 2020. The event was sponsored by Athena Education and BML Munjal University and supported by Wolfram, Devfolio and Women Who Code, Delhi. The Overall Trophies were given to the following schools:

Release Of The Biology Magazine

The Biology Department of the school officially released its Annual  Magazine, “Biology Matters”on 1 June 2020. The editors collected various articles pertaining to innovative discoveries and concepts in the field of biology from classes VI to XII.

On 29 January 2021, the Principal Ms Padma Srinivasan along with the Social Service League in-charge, Ms Preeti Pratihari, the club appointees and Ms Kaumudi Sharma, founder of the Ayaas Prayas Charitable Trust inaugurated the blessed initiative of imparting quality education.This marked the beginning of a productive partnership which will benefit many children wanting to be educated.

“Freeze Tolerant Fun”

Biology and Biotechnology club of Delhi Public School RK Puram, organised the competition “Freeze Tolerant Fun” for the students. The competition consisted of the following 2 events.

CREATIVE CRAFTING

The Catalyst Club of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram organised an ingenious event: CREATIVE CRAFTING(A competition on the making of bookmarks with slogans on Water Conservation) to bring out the hidden artist in a student and highlight their inventive element. This event was conducted on 16 December 2020 by the Department of Chemistry keeping in mind that Science begins as Philosophy and ends as Art!
