NEWSLETTER 27 Monday 23rd April 2018

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FOLLOWING CHILDREN:
Congratulations to Jack in Year 4 for passing his grade 2 in Cello.
The school Spring fetelet is on Friday 27th April starting at 3pm. Please do come along and support us in raising funds for the next stage of the playground refurbishment.
Plates for cakes will be sent home today. Please can you fill with homemade or shop bought cakes and drop off on Friday morning to the library.
We are also looking for helpers on the day to set up, help on stalls and clear up at the end of the day. If you can help please see a member of the PTA, contact them through their Facebook page or by email firstname.lastname@example.org
Helen and Douglas House
On Saturday 5th May two of our parents, Claire & Alan Harry, will be starting a 106 km walk around the coastline of the Isle of Wight. Their aim is to complete the distance in 24hrs. They are doing this to raise money for Helen & Douglas House please see link for more information. It costs over £5 million a year to run and 85% of this money comes from people like us. Every donation makes a big difference to the help they can offer We would like to support Claire and Alan with their fundraising so on Tuesday 1st May the children will be walking 5 laps (approx. 1km) around the school sports field and we are going to see if, as a school, we can match the distance they will be walking.
On the day please bring a donation of £1.00 or more to go towards this worthwhile cause.
Zebra Crossing - Bikes and Scooters
We have received an number of concerns regarding children riding their bikes and scooters right up to the zebra crossing and then stopping suddenly. This is forcing cars to sometimes brake hard as they are unsure if the child is going to stop! Please can we ask that you have your child get off of their bike or scooter before the zebra crossing and walk across into school - Let’s keep everyone safe!
Please remember that children are not permitted to wear nail varnish or jewellery during school. If
children have their ears pierced they must wear stud earrings only, and these should be removed or taped
over for PE/swimming lessons (watches may be worn).
Summer uniform is worn from Easter through to October term and comprises of the following:
Grey Trousers or Tailored grey shorts
Black or grey socks
Black school shoes
No tie required during summer
Pale blue gingham checked dress/blouse
Grey skirt/pinafore/trousers or shorts
White or grey socks
Black school shoes (no boots)
No tie required during summer
Water Bottles and Sun Cream
Now that the weather has warmed up, please ensure that your child comes to school with a filled, named water bottle - just water please, no squash etc. as this attracts flies & wasps.
These can be refilled during the day as required, so don’t worry if your child comes home with a full bottle as it will have recently been topped up!
Your child should also have a named sun hat with a brim and please also apply a 12 hour sun cream at home. If you wish for your child to reapply suncream before lunch they will need to do this themselves and you should send in a named bottle of cream to be kept in your child’s school bag. Staff are not allowed to apply suncream to pupils.
Lunchtime Supervisor Vacancy
We have a vacancy in school for a lunchtime supervisor to work between 11.40am and 13.10pm.
DBS checks would be undertaken.
The role of the lunchtime supervisor is to supervise the children, supporting them with eating
appropriately, ensuring drinks are provided and helping with the social skills of sharing lunchtime with
peers. The clearing up of spillages, wiping of tables and support of children wiping trays etc. and the
leaving of the dining areas in a clean and tidy condition form part of the duties, but come second to
supervision. The post also involves setting up the tables and chairs before lunch and putting away after
cleaning at end of lunch. As part of a rota some days would involve playground instead of being inside. Please speak to Sammy in the office for more information.
Year 6 SATs Breakfast Club
During SATs week we traditionally have a breakfast club for year 6 children. This will be the same this year but it will take place in the conservatory. This is a free club and will allow the children to come in, have some time with friends and allow us to settle them before we start the tests.
More information to follow from Mrs Dobson.
Our swimming pool opens this term and we aim to start swimming on the week beginning the 30th of April. Children will need a costume, towel, swimming goggles (if they normally swim with them) and a swim hat. More information will follow as to which day your child will swim.
Lifesaving or volunteering to supervise poolside
In order to keep the swimming lesson running smoothly we need more volunteer lifesavers. This is to ensure we comply with current and upcoming safety policies. If you are able to train and volunteer at least one afternoon to help at school then we will pay for the cost of the training. The training is 8 hours which includes water and land based training along with an assessment. Please email our pool manager Ann Stevens for details email@example.com
If you are unable to train to be a lifesaver then please can you be a regular volunteer to help on poolside to supervise the children and to chaperone them back to class. You will need to have a DBS check that the school with action.
Would anyone be willing to help tidy up our garden ready for us to plant. If you can help please let Sammy or Denise in the office know and we will put a date together that is suitable for everyone.
The uniform sale will be in the reception area, near the office from Wednesday 18th April until Friday 27th.
Please join us for a ‘Youlbury Assembly’ on Friday 11th May at 2:30pm. This will be a great opportunity to find out about what we will have got up to whilst there and share some of the follow up work that we do with you.
