TAMPA BAY SEEKS RELIEF HELP AT DEADLINE

The Times reported on a potential shakeup regarding the Tampa Bay Rays as they fight to remain atop the AL playoff picture as the last seven weeks of the season rolls on. Sources close to the Rays front office have told the Times that the Rays are “all-in” on adding relief help. While the Rays have an above average group of relievers, the organizations sights are definitely set on their competition in the playoffs. The Marlins, Mets, Padres and Cubs have the Rays beat when it comes to strikeouts, saves and holds. Those in Tampa Bay’s front office understand the importance of pitching and how it will definitely decide playoff series come playoff time. Additionally, sources close to Tampa Bay’s front office have noted that the organization is willing to move top shelf prospects to gain a top reliever before the deadline passes. While Tampa Bay does not necessarily need to sell the farm for a reliever, any chance to move ahead of their competition for the playoffs is an opportunity Tampa Bay does not seem to want to give up. With only about 20 prospects in their farm system, it will be an interesting development if the Rays were able to package up several of those prospects for an elite reliever before the deadline passes.
