Selecting Your Course of Study:
Our Subject Information Evening is held every year for Years 10-12 in Term 3. This is an important opportunity to ask questions, see information about the learning and assessment in all the courses provided at Mount Hutt College and other options for study that may be appropriate for some students, for next year. This includes Distance Learning and some other education providers.
Selecting your course of study for next year:
During Term 3: students will be supported with career counselling::
Our Timetable Construction Process. Student preferences and selections will be recorded in KAMAR (our student management system) . If any changes and/or further discussions are required please contact the Year Level Dean or if you want to make an appointment for careers information please contact our Careers Assistant Miss Naomi Waghorn.
Most Year 11 students study six subjects for Level 1 NCEA including English, Mathematics and Science. Most Year 12 students study six Level 2 subjects - English and Mathematics are recommended for most students. Year 13 students intending to qualify for entrance to a University are advised to take five Level 3 level subjects which are approved for University Entrance.
Multi Level Study across Levels 1, 2 and 3 of NCEA is possible and is appropriate for some students for particular reasons. Individual programmes that include other alternatives are decided by discussion and interview process. Please discuss your need for an alternative programme with your Dean in the first instance.
Entry to Level 2 and Level 3 courses requires the Principal’s approval. This depends on satisfactory results at a lower level. Parents are strongly urged to involve themselves in the process of selecting the most appropriate courses for their daughter/son(s).
A satisfactory level of attainment in at least 4 out of 6 subjects is needed for progression to the next level.
Subject costs are indicated on each Subject page as a guide and may vary slightly from year to year.
Eligibility for Qualifications
Parents please note: senior students can be disqualified from awards because of non completion of course requirements or consistent failure to meet deadlines.
