About the Roxie Theater

The Roxie Theater is a San Francisco landmark in the Mission District. We are proud to serve the independent film community of the Bay Area and bring people together to meet and connect through distinctive cinematic experiences. Our historic venue is the perfect place for film premieres, presentations, staff parties, film festivals and special events.

General Theater Information

Auditorium: Theater capacity is 233 + 2 wheelchair spaces. 6 additional seats are reserved for ADA patrons. There is a small stage at the foot of the screen with a PA, microphones and stage lighting. The auditorium is equipped with air conditioning, a Reme Halo LED UV light system, and an Accuclean air filtration system.

Lobby: Our lobby hosts a concessions stand and comfortably holds 10-15 people at a time. From the lobby is access to 2 single stall, all-gender restrooms, one of which is ADA accessible.

Tech info: The auditorium is fully equipped with high quality audio/visual presentation systems that will be operated by our trained staff. The Big Roxie can play encrypted & unencrypted DCP, Blu-ray, DVD, and digital files. A laptop can be hooked up to the front of the stage for presentations. Concessions:  We sell popcorn, candy, and an array of beverages including beer. No outside catering, open flame, glass containers, or outside alcohol permitted. Outside food and drink may be permitted on the basis that they are pre-approved by the rentals team, and may be subject to a cleaning deposit of $150.

Rental Rates and Booking Information

Rates & Availability: Our rental availability is centered around our Roxie programming. We primarily book rentals 3-6 weeks in advance, when our film schedule is determined. Our ability to book rentals outside of this time frame varies widely on a case-by-case basis.

The Roxie offers both corporate and nonprofit rates, as well as a rate for low income/emerging filmmakers/smaller non-profits. Our standard rental period is 2 hours long. Access for set up is up to one hour before show time, and we open doors 30 minutes before show time (unless requested otherwise). Rates for a 2-hour rental vary depending on day of the week and time of day.  

Corporate rate: $1000 - $1800         Nonprofit/emerging filmmaker/Individual rate: $775 - $1450        

Additional time will incur additional hourly charges.  All rentals include the use of standard equipment and staffing. A standard theater rental includes:

• Projectionist, box office, and concessionaire, PA and microphones.
• Creating and selling tickets (if desired), and hosting the event on our website.

• Promotion must be done by the renter and is not included in the rental package.
