• Most cryptocurrency mining has moved to large operations with specialized hardware.
• This could be anywhere from 25 to 91 terawatt-hours

• The range is due to uncertainty
• The low end of the range means cryptomining consumes as much electricity as Utah.

• 137 crypto mining facilities were found in the US

• Only 101 returned answers to power consumption questions
• Those 101 could use 2.3% of the power in the US.

• There are likely fossil fuel power plants that could be retired if not for the power used by crypto mines.

• As with a lot of dumb shit on the internet, this started on 4chan
• From 4chan: “With the power of AI We will clothe the instahots. We will purifAI them of their tattoos. We will liberate them of their piercings. We will lengthen their skirts”.
• It is being called DignifAI
• Most people aren’t using AI though, they’re just using tools like Photoshop
• Some of the usual twitter ghoul suspects (Bumble Jack, Ian Miles Wrong, etc) are spreading this around
• A twitter account dedicated to DignifAI has 10s of thousands of followers
• This is obviously pushed by men online who want “trad wives”
