Using Internet Mapping Software and GPS Units

Due to the way both Internet based mapping software and GPS units view road networks, both will often give directions that are erroneous because they attempt to use old mining roads within the Cuyuna Country State Recreational Area that are closed to the public or no longer passable.  Please use the following latitude/longitude as your destination for internet mapping software and GPS units.  This location is the intersection of County Road 30 and North Road at the entrance to the Miner’s Mountain Rally Center.

Location:  46.481391°N, 93.979317°W

Rental Mountain Bikes and Equipment

While bringing your own mountain bike and equipment is always best, sometimes it’s just not possible.  The Cuyuna Lake Mountain Bike Crew have many bike shop Partners that would be happy to fulfill your rental needs.

Go to our website, http://www.cuyunalakesmtb.com/eat-sleep-ride.html and see a list of our bike shop Partners (in the “Ride” tab) and their contact information.

Race Parking

The start/finish line, racer check-in and associated items are located at the Miner’s Mountain Rally Center, the main parking lot for access to the Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Trails.  It is located at the heart of the Cuyuna Country State Recreational Area (CCSRA), off County Road 30.  It is just north of Ironton, MN.  See page 6, for directions to the Miner’s Mountain Rally Center.

All these areas within biking distance to the Miner’s Mountain Rally Center.  There is no shuttle service provided.  Please factor in the time required to go from the parking locations below to the start/finish line.

Miner’s Mountain Rally Center Parking Lot

North and South Parking

The Miner’s Mountain Rally Center has 96 total parking spaces in the north and south parking lots, however only the south parking lot will be available for parking, meaning a total of 48 spaces will be available at the Rally Center.  The boat launch parking is not available for racers.  We always suggest carpooling and parking within the towns of Ironton or Crosby and biking to the Rally Center.  Due to the number of racers at the 45NRTH Whiteout, other parking is required.

Miner’s Mountain Road Parking

There is parking available on the south side of the Miner’s Mountain Road exiting the Rally Center.  If the upper and lower Rally Center Parking lots are full, you will be directed to turn around through the invasive species wash and proceed along the Miner’s Mountain Road to a location to park.

Parking Note:

Miner’s Mountain Road and the Rally Center  parking lots are the preferred locations to park for all attendees and spectators for the 45NRTH Whiteout.

The Crew values the safety of all that come to our events.  Both of these locations provide the safest parking and unloading locations possible.  These should be the two “go to” locations for parking.

Racer Nutrition and Hydration

Nutrition and hydration  are available at several locations during and after the race.

Highway No. 6 Crossing Point - This station will be manned with volunteers.  It is located on the west side of the Highway No. 6 Crossing.  There will be a marked pull out site with a table for water.  You can also use this as a bottle staging and drop site.

North Rally Center - Once racers have completed the 45NRTH Whiteout, please head to the Crew tent for a quick nutrition stop.  There will be yogurt, granola, bananas, water, bagels, cream cheese, oil, and vinegar (subject to change).

Vendor Food - Crew Partner Maucieri’s will have a food truck at the Rally Center throughout the event for spectators and racers once they finish.

Racer Warm-up and Equipment Checkup Area

The Demo trail is designated as the racer warm-up and equipment check area.  This trail is relatively short, approximately 0.80 miles in length and includes small downhill and uphill sections.  The purpose of riding this trail is to check equipment (brakes, tire pressure, shifting, etc.) before a race and to get used to the trail conditions one will experience in the race.

Demo was the birthplace of the Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Trails. It is called Demo Trail not in honor of the word "Demolition" but "Demonstration."  This trail was hand built by the Cuyuna Crew prior to the 25 miles of single track being built.  You are riding on history, take it all in!

This trail is for warm-up and is not the race.  Please be attentive and careful as you make your way around the Demo Trail and allow others to pass you, where possible, or wait to pass other racers where possible.

To get to the Demo Trail, follow the directional signage from the start and finish line.

The warm-up and equipment check area will be closed approximately 15 minutes before the racer meeting.

Bail Points and Sag Wagon

Sometimes life gives you lemons.  Sometimes life gives you a bucket of lemons.  For those times, any volunteer station is a bail point along the 45NRTH Whiteout course.  However, the preferred bail points are at road crossing points, as these allow easy pickup by the Sag Wagon.  If you bail, you can check-in at the timing tent as a DNF for the race.

FOR EMERGENCIES WHERE A VOLUNTEER IS NOT VISIBLE: CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY

Note: For severe mechanicals or minor injuries any volunteer can call the sag wagon.  The Mountain Bike Patrol will also be on the trails to assist you.

Spectator Locations

Below are the areas that we recommend for viewing the 45NRTH Whiteout race or ride.

Miner’s Mountain Rally Center

The Miner’s Mountain Rally Center is the “all in one” location for spectators.

If you are spectating only, we do ask that you not park at the Miner’s Mountain Rally Center or roadway and instead park at one of the other parking areas outlined in the Race Parking section of this guide.

This area allows for viewing of all classes of racers as they make the big turn down Overburden Road.

Limited parking here.

Directions from Miner’s Mountain Rally Center: South on Irene Avenue/County Road 30; thence west (right) on MN Highway 210 approx. 2.6 miles to County Road 128; thence north (right) on County Road 128; entrance to the right before sharp 90° curve to the left.

Yawkey Parking Lot (Walk or Cycle in Only)

Directions from Miner’s Mountain Rally Center: South on Irene Avenue/County Road 30; thence east (left) onto 2nd Avenue/3rd Avenue to MN Highway 210; thence north (left) on MN Highway 210; thence north (straight) onto MN Highway 6 approx. 0.5 mile to the Croft Mine Entrance/Yawkey Road; thence east (right) on the Croft Mine/Yawkey Road to the end of the road.
