Ellen is a retired public school teacher. She taught elementary ages in the Edmonds School District for 25 years. She pioneered the Madrona School program in 1986 and created much of the curriculum for the multi-age classrooms. After retirement she began her own publishing company, Joyful Noise Publications, selling her curriculum all over the country. She also taught teacher seminars through the Bureau of Education and Research. She created the Westgate Homeschool Academy Learning Center at its inception in 2000 and taught there for two years.
