Interested in Managing a Little League Team?
We are gearing up for another great season at North Arlington Little League (NALL)! As a 100% volunteer-run organization, our success depends on dedicated adults like you who step up to lead and inspire young players. Whether you're a seasoned veteran or considering managing for the first time, we want to give you a clear picture of what the manager role involves and how our league supports you.
⚾ What Does a Manager Do?
A team manager is more than just a head coach. You are the leader of the team and the primary point of contact between the league and your players' families. Your responsibilities include:
- Organizing practices and games
- Leading the coaching staff
- Ensuring a positive, respectful team environment
- Communicating with parents and players
- Upholding league policies and Little League rules
⭐Perks of Being a Manager
- Set your own practice schedule! You get to set what days, times, and location your team will practice. Note: contact a board member about approved locations.
- Pick your own team name! If a veteran manager in your division doesn’t already have “dibs” on a team, you get to pick your team name. Be prepared with a back-up choice or two, just in case!
- Roster and lineup decisions! While many factors impact roster construction, managers get the biggest say of all. We empower you to manage your roster!
- Make a difference! You will be the #1 reason kids either love or leave baseball. If you show up with belief in your players, a passion for excellence, and maybe even a few inspirational Ted Lasso quotes, you're exactly who we're looking for.
- You’re never alone. From coaching clinics to board member support, to practice drills and veteran advice, we’re here for you every step along the way.
🧭 Key Expectations for All Managers
Regardless of division, every NALL manager must meet the following requirements:
✅ Volunteer & Safety Requirements
- Complete a Volunteer Application and background check (annually)
- Concussion Training (every 3 years)
- Child Abuse Awareness Training (annually)
- Collect Medical Release Forms from all players before first practice
🧢 Team Management Duties
- Select a Team Admin to coordinate communication, scoring, and volunteers.
- Concession Stand Duty: Each team is responsible for multiple shifts per season. All parents are expected to help!
- GameChanger Scoring: Required in most divisions (home team scores; visiting team runs scoreboard & pitching logs)
- Batting Cage Use: Safety first! Only one bat per cage, helmets at all times.
⚾ League Equipment
- NALL provides catcher's gear and baseballs
- Please use game balls sparingly — they’re expensive and limited!
💬 Communication
- Managers will receive a master schedule, contacts for their division’s commissioner and player agent, and regular updates from the board.
- If you manage more than one team, we will do our best to avoid scheduling conflicts.
🧩 Not Sure You're Ready?
We’ve got you covered:
- A coaching clinic is offered each season.
- Our board and division commissioners are available to support you.
- Many managers start as assistant coaches — and we’re happy to help you grow into the role.
