AHS Learning Guide - Week of March 30, 2020
Social Studies
World Geography:
- Students will discover how the physical features and resources of Southwest Asia affect its people and their influence in the world.
World History:
- Students will explain the beginnings of industrialization in Britain
- Students will describe key inventions that furthered the Industrial Revolution.
- Students will identify transportation improvements.
- Students will trace the impact of railroads on British industry.
US History:
- Describe the response of the US to Soviet aggression after WWII, including Kennedy’s role in the Cuban Missile Crisis
- Identify the actions and outcomes of government policies intended to create economic opportunities for citizens, such as Johnson’s Great Society
- Identify and analyze New Frontier and Great Society programs as logical successors to the New Deal
- Analyze the effects of landmark U.S. Supreme Court decisions, including Brown v. Board of Education and Tinker v. Des Moines.

For Parents
● Guide Students through the following activities:
- Activity 1: Maps of Southwest Asia Political/Physical, with Countries/Landmarks labeled. Go through the Countries, Capitals and Physical Features.
- Activity 2: Strait of Hormuz: Discuss with your child how events in the world can affect our access to resources.
- Activity 3: Precious Water: Discuss with your child how citizens are asked by government officials to conserve water during drought years in Texas.
- Activity 4: Current Event: Discuss with your child how events in other countries affect the United States and your family.
For Students
- Activity 1: Southwest Asia Maps: Study the Political and Physical Maps of Southwest Asia, Countries and Landmarks, Physical Features. Additional information here.
- Activity 2: Video: Strait of Hormuz Explained: Watch the video explaining the importance of the Strait of Hormuz and complete the video questions.
- Activity 3: Precious Water: Read the text concerning Southwest Asia’s issue with a lack of fresh water. Complete the questions, referring back to the text as needed.
- Activity 4: Current Event: Find and read a news article (newspaper, magazine, or online) and fill out the questions on the current event worksheet. You should choose an article that includes information about a country in Southwest Asia (refer to your map from Activity 1).

For Parents
Guide Students through the following activities:
Activity 1:
- Login to www.Nearpod.com using your teacher’s code.
- Adams: RMTDI
- Espinoza: login to google classroom
- Kremmer: UGHWF & OJURN

- Read through each slide and complete the activities throughout the presentation.
Activity 2:
- Create a photo exhibit of Industrial Revolution inventions that are still used today.
- Step 1: Using a camera, take pictures of at least 10 items (in your house or around town) that were invented during the Industrial Revolution in the 19th Century (1800s)
- Step 2: Create a slideshow on Google Slides or PowerPoint.
- You will have 11 slides.
- Slide 1 will be your Title Slide and should include the presentation title (ie. Industrial Revolution Scavenger Hunt), your name and your class period.
- Slides 2-11 will be your findings. 1 picture per slide.
- Slides should include: the photo, the name of the invention, the inventor, and the date of the inventions
- Step 3: Upload the presentation to Google Classroom under the assignments tab. **Don't forget to hit the "TURN IN" button.
For Students
- Activity 1: Complete the Nearpod lesson. Take notes as needed.
- Activity 2: Using your knowledge and research skills, create a slideshow that exhibits 10 Industrial Revolution inventions that are still used today.
