PRIVACY POLICY

Effective: December 23, 2020

This Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) describes how Afrometa (also referred to herein as “us”, “we” or “Afrometa”) collects, uses, shares and protects your (and other users (“Members”) who access and use our websites and mobile applications (the “Services”)) personal information in conjunction with your access to and use of the Services.  

You accept this Policy when you sign up for, access, or use our Services.  We reserve the right to make changes to this Policy at any time. If we make changes to this Policy, we will post the updated Policy and update the “Effective” date at the top of this Policy.  The revised version will become effective at the time we post it.  We will provide you with an email notice of material changes to the Policy. Your continued access or use of the Services will be considered as acceptance of the new Policy.

In order to access or use our Services, you must agree to this Policy and our Terms of Service.  If you do not agree with this Policy, please cease use of our services and contact us.  

INFORMATION WE COLLECT ABOUT YOU

We collect information in order to provide and improve our Services, to administer your use of the Services and improve your experience when you use our Services or engage in certain activities, such as accessing our Sites, downloading our apps or contacting us directly.

INFORMATION YOU PROVIDE

We may collect and store any information that you provide to us when you access and use our Services. When you register for the use of our Services, you may be required to provide us with certain personal information, such as your first and last name, email address and phone number.  You may also choose to provide us with additional information through the use of various features, surveys, feedback, etc.  To help create and maintain a trusted environment and comply with the law, we may request that you provide additional identity verification information or other authenticating information.  

INFORMATION WE AUTOMATICALLY COLLECT FROM YOUR USE OF OUR SERVICES

We may also collect additional information that is not associated with your account and cannot be used to identify you, including but not limited to, aggregate data, de-identified or other anonymous data.  We use this information to continuously improve our Services and your user experience.

We may use various technologies to remember you and create a more personalized experience for you when using our Services, as detailed in our COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES section below. We track your use of the Services, including the pages that you visit once you sign in, how much time is spent on each page, features that you click on and other behavior.

We receive different types of data from the computers and/or servers that you use when you access the Site.  “Cookies” are small files placed on your computer by a Web site, in order to facilitate the use of that website.  Pixel tags are tiny graphic files that can function in various ways (such as allowing us to track how you view an email that we send you) and are commonly used in conjunction with cookies. Local storage is similar to a cookie but is instead located on your browser and can store more information. When using this site and services, we may create “cookies” on your computer for the purpose of facilitating and maintaining your current use session, and may collect personal information using those cookies in order to enable Afrometa to identify you in connection with the Services and to track your use of the Services. Other data that we receive when you use our Sites includes “clickstream information” such as your IP address, the type of operating system and/or browser that you use, your location, and the pages that you visit.  You are free to decline our Cookies if your browser or browser add-on permits, unless our Cookies are required to help prevent fraud or help ensure the security of our Services.  You can configure your Internet browser, to accept all cookies, reject all cookies or notify you before accepting a cookie. Many Internet browsers also allow you to disable local storage or delete information contained in local storage. We may share information with those who need it to do work for us. These recipients may include third party companies and individuals to administer and provide the Services on our behalf (such as customer support, hosting, email delivery and database management services), as well as lawyers, bankers, auditors, and insurers.  We will only provide these third parties with your personal information to the limited extent necessary to deliver the services.

 

We will obtain consent for such sharing with service providers where legally required. We enter into written agreements with these third-party service providers requiring them to provide the same level of protection for your personal information as provided under this Policy and limiting their use of your personal information to the specified services provided on our behalf. INFORMATION WE RECEIVE FROM THIRD PARTIES

We may receive information about you from other sources, such as third parties who are not affiliated with Afrometa. For example, a third party may place a code or other identifying user information in your browser address when you visit their websites or a payment processor may share certain information with us that is necessary to complete a transaction. If you visit our Services after you have visited their websites, we may store this identifying information from your browser address.  

“DO NOT TRACK” SIGNALS

Do Not Track is an optional browser setting that allows you to express your preferences regarding tracking by advertisers and other third-parties. We do not currently respond to Do Not Track signals and similar mechanisms. Any such signal sent to our site automatically by a web browser will not be recognized and no action will be taken. THIRD PARTY WEBSITES AND AD SERVERS

When using our Services, you may encounter links to websites that are not owned, controlled or affiliated with Afrometa and/or ads delivered by third party ad servers. Please be aware that any third party websites and ad server ads that are found within our Services may use cookies, pixel tags, local storage and similar technologies. We are not responsible for, or have any control over, the privacy policies of those third party websites and ad servers, and we encourage you to read the privacy policies of each and every website visited when linking directly from our Services.

For your privacy and safety, we caution you from sharing personal and sensitive information about yourself with other Members.

SHARING WITH MEMBERS USING THE SERVICES

As a necessary part of providing the Services, we may disclose information to Members for the purpose of providing them profile information on you, including, without limitation, your username, social media URLs and interests.

SHARING WITH PAYMENT PROCESSORS

As a necessary part of providing the Services and processing purchases, we may disclose information to payment processors and related service providers for the purpose or receiving and processing payments.  This may include, but is not limited to, information necessary to process the payment and information necessary to maintain trust and safety and prevent fraudulent transactions.

SHARING WITH SERVICE PROVIDERS

We use a variety of third party service providers to help us provide the Services on our Sites.  We may use service providers to help authenticate your identity, check against public databases, assist with payment processing, assist with customer support, perform product development, maintenance and debugging. Providers have limited access to your information, to perform the tasks on our behalf, and are contractually bound to protect and use it only for the purposes for which it is disclosed and consistent with this Policy.

INVITATIONS TO JOIN AFROMETA

You may choose to invite your friends and family to join Afrometa. We may access and use the email addresses that are in your address book, or that you otherwise provide, to send invitations to join the Services. The email address that you provide will be used to send email, text message or other in-app invitations and in some cases reminders, to the addressees, asking them to connect with you via the Services.  When you invite a friend to use the Services, your name will appear as the sender of the email or message.    

SURVEYS AND FEEDBACK

At various times, we may provide you with an opportunity to participate in surveys, or you may choose to provide us additional information, such as additional information about yourself or your use of the Services. We collect and maintain information that you may choose to voluntarily provide to us.  when filling out a form, responding to a survey, providing feedback, posting to community forums, and other methods of communication. By providing such information, you give us the right to use such information as described in the Policy.  When you communicate with us, we may collect information about your communication, including the content of the communication, and any information that you choose to provide.  

HOW LONG WE RETAIN YOUR DATA

We retain your information, including your personal information, for as long as is necessary for the performance of the Services and compliance with legal obligations.  

HOW WE PROTECT AND STORE YOUR PERSONAL DATA

We protect your personal data using industry standard physical, technical and administrative security measures to reduce risk of loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure or alteration.  Some of the safeguards we use to protect your information may include using firewalls, encryption, physical access controls to data centers, and information access authorization controls.

Although we strive to provide reasonable security measures for the information in our possession and control, no security system can prevent all potential security breaches and we cannot guarantee complete security. We bear no liability for the use or disclosure of your data arising out of such breach.  


You are responsible for safeguarding the confidentiality of your passwords to the Services.  We bare no responsibility for the access, use or disclosure of your information, arising from the theft or disclosure of your password.  If you know or have reason to believe that your account has been compromised or suspect unauthorized use of your account, you are required to contact us immediately.  

HOW TO MANAGE YOUR INFORMATION

You can access, update and delete your data by going to the ‘Edit Profile' section of the Site.  You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us at afrometaHQ@gmail.com. Upon cancellation of your account, your profile will no longer display on the Site. You will not receive further communication from us and we will not share your personal information with third parties. However, content that you may have posted in public pages (such as public forums) may remain on the Sites. You may also still receive user generated messages from your friends inviting you to join or information from third parties with whom your information was shared prior to the termination. We may retain backup copies of your information indefinitely.

CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP

In the event of change of ownership or similar events at Afrometa, including but not limited to  merger, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, bankruptcy, or insolvency event, then we may sell, transfer or share some or all of our assets, including information in connection with such transaction or in contemplation of such transaction.  In this event, we will notify you before your personal information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy. Your continued use of our Sites and Services will signify your acceptance

INFORMATION ABOUT CHILDREN

Our Services are not directed to children and children are not eligible to use the Services.  We do not collect or maintain personal information from people who we actually know are under 13, and our services are not designed to attract people under 18.  If we later learn that a user is under 13, we will take steps to remove the user’s personal information from our database.  If you are aware that your child has provided information to us, you may contact us at afrometaHQ@gmail.com so that we can identify and remove such data.
