Dear DMS Parents/Guardians:

Based on Federal and State mandates, our school will be administering NYS assessments this spring in ELA, Math and Science.  Each subject will be given on a separate day.  The assessments are each limited to one session and are untimed.  The information gained from these assessments will be used to evaluate student growth and determine learning gaps to help plan appropriately for individual students and grade levels.  Results of the assessments will be shared with you so you are aware of your child’s progress.

In preparation for these assessments during COVID times, it is important for us to have appropriate staffing and room assignments to allow for proper social distancing.  On assessment days, students will take the assessment in the morning (approximately 90 minutes) then continue with regular classes for the remainder of the school day.  We will follow our “2-Hour-Delay” schedule, with classes starting at 9:25 am after the exam is over.

Students will be expected to take the assessment when they attend school on assessment days unless you email my secretary, Ella Royer, at ella.royer@doverschools.org, no later than this Friday, April 16th at 12:00 pm. Please only email Ms. Royer if you do not want your child to take the assessments.

Students who are in the building--but will not be taking the assessment--will be brought to a separate location and will be expected to read and/or do an alternative assignment during that time. If we don’t hear from you by April 16th at 12:00 pm, we will assume that your child is taking the assessments.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding these assessments, please feel free to call or email me.

Respectfully,

Christopher O’Connor

Principal
