This is your home for the Badger State Battle scout blog. After each day, the Prep Baseball Report scouting staff will update notes from players across the tournament. The Battle features 40 teams ranging from Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota. Two age groups make up the event - 16U and 17U.

Appleton Panthers Black

Connor Langreder, LHP, West De Pere, 2019
Northern Illinois commit. 6-foot, 165-pound, athletically-built left-handed pitcher. On the mound, long arm action, shows on the back-side, ¾ slot. Fastball sat 81-83 with arm side run. Breaking ball had a 1/7 shape, 71-73.

Eli Davila, C, Oshkosh North, 2019
5-foot-7, 160-pound catcher, smaller frame. Plays with bounce behind the dish, active and agile defender. Above average blocker, can get to his feet quickly, light footed and soft hands. Arm action is short and over the top, quick release, arm played accurate. 2.09 pop between innings.

Jason Jennerjohn, RHP, Hortonville, 2019
5-foot-11, 180-pound right-handed pitcher. High ¾ arm slot with a quick arm, delivery will change tempos at times. Fastball sat 82-84 mph, touched 85 mph, slight arm side run. Curveball showed above action, 11/5 shape and thrown aggressively with arm speed, 72-76 mph.

Bubba Thompson, SS, Appleton West, 2019
6-foot-2, 195-pound shortstop, athletic build, carries strength. Defensively plays with smooth actions, easy defender plays well on the move. Arm action is loose and athletic, showed actions to stick at shortstop. Right-handed hitter, open setup, barrel control hitter, competes in the box, middle of the field approach, singles hitter.

Bay Port

Carl Cano, SS, Bay Port, 2021
6-foot, 157-pound, right-handed hitting shortstop. At the plate, slightly closed setup with a leg lift trigger. Long, level path through the hitting zone, gap-to-gap approach. Went 2-3 on the day with an RBI single.

Brew State Baseball Academy

Ethan Toone, C, Brookfield East, 2019
6-foot-2, 185-pound catcher, lean frame. Right-handed hitter, flashed oppo pop with a triple to right field. Defensively is flexible in the crouch, sets low and quiet, agile actions. 2.19 pop between innings.

GRB Rays - Fox Valley

Trey Tennessen, RHP, Kimberly, 2019
Ranked No. 74 in the WI 2019 class. 5-foot-10, 159-pound, athletic, right-handed pitcher. In-line direction, finishes to the first base side. Short arm action with above average arm speed, high ¾ slot. Fastball, occasional cutting action, sat 82-83 mph. Curveball, slurve action, flashed late break, thrown for strikes, 70-73 mph. Swing-and-miss type pitch. Pitched a complete game shutout with six strikeouts.

Dallas Fletcher, 3B, Valders, 2019
6-foot-2, 195-pound right-handed hitting third baseman, large frame and athletic build. Middle of the lineup type bat, tall open setup. Path has some length and works uphill. Disciplined approach, showed pop to all fields with a pull side gap home run and left the yard foul to the opposite field.  Beat out an infield hit on a 4.50 down the line.

Beau Schumacher, C/1B, Kimberly, 2019
6-foot-2, 175-pound catcher/first baseman, long lanky frame, has some projection. Right-handed hitter, showed feel for the barrel, a pair of base hits along with two hard outs to the outfield. Defensively has a long frame around the bag, behind the plate popped 2.15 in game caught stealing.

Andrew Sweetalla, SS/RHP, Appleton East, 2019
6-foot-1, 185-pound, athletic, two-way prospect. On the mound, works from a high ¾ arm slot with long, quick arm action. In line direction, lands closed with an upright finish. Fastball, sat 82-85 mph, dropped to 79-82 mph from the stretch. Curveball, 10/4 shape, 71-72 mph. Changeup, flashed sink, 74 mph.

Jonathan Nett, OF/RHP, Kimberly, 2019
5-foot-10, 185-pound, two-way prospect with a strong frame. On the mound, has long, clean arm action from an over the top slot. Strike thrower that works fast. Fastball sat 81-84 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 70-72 mph.

GRB Rays Green

Reagan Klawiter, LHP, Verona, 2019
Illinois State commit. 6-foot, 160-pound, left-handed pitcher, lean muscle, lanky frame. Works from a ¾ window with a short arm action, slight stab on draw, quick arm speed. Uptempo pace, finishes upright, some recoil. Mixes and changes looks, utilizes a slide step. Fastball, arm side run, sat 81-82. Curveball, 1/7 shape, tight spin, late action, 68-72. Located both pitches away in the zone effectively.

Jack Washburn, RHP, Webster, 2019
Oregon State commit. 6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed pitcher, strong athletic frame. Fastball worked at 88-89 mph, touched 90 mph, command was erratic but stuff was live in the hitting zone. Curveball showed plus action 78-81 mph, tight sharp action.

Hunter Rosenbaum, RHP, Webster, 2019
West Virginia commit. 6-foot-2, 182-pound right-handed pitcher. Arm is loose and live, high ¾ slot. Fastball gets arm side action in the zone, worked 87-89 mph, touched 90 mph once. Curveball has sharp 11/5 action, ranged 72-78 mph, at its best at the top end of that range, swing and miss action.

Adrian Montilva, LHP, Madison East, 2019
5-foot-10, 160-pound left-handed pitcher. Confident mound presence, pitches with moxy. Delivery is direct, hang and read lefty out of the stretch, breaks hands late into quick arm action and squared landing. High ¾ slot. Fastball worked 85-87 mph, jumped through the zone, swing and miss fastball. Curveball played at 71 mph, 1/7 action.

Bennet Frazer, MIF, Oconto, 2019
Bradley commit. Smaller frame, plays fast and can play all over the diamond. Defensively hands are soft and actions are athletic through the baseball. Top of the lineup hitter, battles for quality at bats, short compact stroke that uses the whole field.

Ethan Bosacker, RHP, Monticello (MN), 2019
Ranked No. 12 in the Minnesota 2019 class. 6-foot-2, 195-pound right-handed pitcher with a projectable, durable frame. On the mound, short, quick arm action from high ¾ arm angle. In line direction with a square landing. Works with some effort. Fastball, occasional arm side run, sat 83-87 mph. Maintained velocity through six innings. Curveball, slurve type, thrown for strikes, 69-72 mph. Changeup, sink action, 75-77 mph.

Hitters Baseball

Connor Prielipp, LHP, Tomah, 2019
6-foot, 155-pound left-handed pitcher, thin build, sloped shoulders. Delivery is easy with little effort, lower half stays tall, minimal use. Arm is live and loose, whippy action, high ¾ slot, plus arm speed. Fastball was electric, worked 88-91 mph, swing and miss fastball, continued to touch 90 mph deep into outing. Swing and miss curveball, 78-82 mph, plus action, late hard bite, 1/7 shape, showed ability to expand the zone and throw for strikes. Was virtually untouchable in his outing, recorded 17 strikeouts in seven innings, retired 13 of 14 via the strikeout at one point. Prielipp continues to show premium stuff this summer, 2019 draft prospect.

Lukas Galdoni, 1B/RHP, Carmel (IL), 2019
6-foot-4, 205-pound, extra large frame, projectable, first baseman and right-handed pitcher. On the mound, works out of a ¾ window with a long arm action. Fastball sat 81-84. Offensively, left-handed hitter, open setup, short stride, pull-side approach, laced a triple off the right field wall on a breaking ball, stayed on the pitch, long strides around the base paths.

Illinois Dynasty

Jared King, RHP, Joliet Central, 2019
5-foot-11, 180-pound, athletically-built right-handed pitcher. Quiet confidence on the mound. Deliberate drop and drive delivery with smooth rhythm, works on down the mound on-line landing square, finishes athletically.. Slot varies between high ¾ and over-the-top, short arm action. Fastball, flashed run, moved in/out, up/down at-will, 82-84. Curveball, 11/5 shape, struggled with command early but gained feel for as game progressed, 69-71.

Tyler Pransky, SS, Joliet West, 2019
5-foot-9, 165-pound, fleet footed middle infielder. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, short load, athletic hands stay on the ball, barrel control hitter. Went 3-for-4 with a double, a bunt single, two run scored, two stolen bases and one RBI. Defensively, soft hands at short, ranges well with glove hand, gets good reads on batted balls. Short arm action, loose at times, ¾ slot.

Mark Garcia, 3B, Joliet West, 2019
5-foot-9, 155-pound third baseman with some athleticism. Balanced, open setup, bat rests on shoulder until load, barrel gets vertical, front foot back to square. Pull-side approach, generates bat speed and has above-average feel for the barrel. Reliable defender at third, soft hands, athletic arm actions, accurate throws.

ISA Stars Royal

Brett Bradison, C, De Pere, 2019
6-foot, 165-pound catcher, athletic body shape. Right-handed hitter, path has some length on flat plane, backspun a line drive single through the shortstop. Defensively showed strong blocking skills, moved well, quiet soft receiver.

Minnesota Starters

Frankie Volkers, RHP, Maple Grove, 2019
6-foot, 200-pound right-handed pitcher, thick body type. Balance varies at times in delivery, arm plays from high ¾ slot. Fastball flashed finish through the zone, 85-86 mph in the first touched 87 mph once. Changeup at 70-73 mph.

Jace Kressin, LHP, Menomonie, 2019
Lanky left-handed pitcher, 6-foot-3, 175-pounds, projectable build. Arm is lively, quick loose action, high ¾ slot. Fastball cuts at times, 82-84 mph, touched 85 mph, jumped through the zone at times to get swing and miss. Slider has hard sharp action, late break, 75-76 mph. Changeup fades at times, 65-67 mph.

Evan Maass, RHP, Minnetonka, 2019
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed pitcher, lean frame with upside. Easy delivery repeats well and stays balanced, low effort. Arm action is clean, high ¾ slot. Fastball showed finish in the zone, easy life, 85-87 mph. Flashed changeup at 75 mph in one inning stint.

Matt Sherman, LHP/1B, Eden Prairie (MN), 2019
6-foot-3, 205-pound, projectable, left-handed pitcher. On the mound, in line direction, tall balance point, high leg lift, square landing. Short arm action with above average arm speed. Works from high ¾ slot. Fastball, works mostly straight, sat 83-86 mph in the first inning, touching 87 mph once. Settled in at 82-85 mph. Curveball, 1/7 shape, 70-72 mph.

Reese Dutton, RHP, Tremper, 2019
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed pitcher. Arm is clean out of a high ¾ slot. Fastball touched 86 mph, sat 83-85 mph. Curveball is hard and sharp, 12/6 action, 73-75 mph, swing and miss out pitch with ability to drop for strikes.

Prospect Training Academy

Andrew Zakula, 1B/RHP, Oak Creek, 2019
6-foot-3, 185-pound, two-way player with a projectable frame. At the plate, hits from a tall, slightly open setup. Flashed above average bat speed and showed strength through contact on a line-drive triple to right-center gap. On the mound, long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, works mostly straight, sat 74-75 mph. Slider, sweeping action, some feel, 66-68 mph.

Rhino WI - Coe

Ethan Gause, IF/RHP, Appleton West, 2020
5-foot-8, 138-pound, two-way player. On the mound, has a short, athletic arm action. In line direction with a square landing. Fastball sat 76-79 mph with cutting action. Curveball, 11/5 shape, feel, 67-69 mph. Changeup, 71 mph.

Rhino WI - Squeeze

Jonathan Zacharias, RHP, Notre Dame Academy, 2018
Cornell Commit. 6-foot-5, 230-pound, right-handed pitcher with a durable frame. Long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, works mostly straight, sat 83-86 mph. Changeup, 72-74 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 64-66 mph. Slider, 68-71 mph.

Darren Dionne, RHP, Peshtigo, 2019
6-foot-4, 185-pound, lanky, projectable right-handed pitcher. On the mound, has a long, loose arm action, easy effort, works from a ¾ slot, shows on the back-side. Tall and fall delivery, high leg kick at balance point. Fastball, some run to it, 80-82, touched 83. Slider, best offering, tight spin, sharp action, 10/4 shape, 73-77.

Shane Ryan, C, Markesan, 2019

6-foot, 195-pound, right-handed hitting catcher, solid, thick build, strength throughout frame. Offensively, balanced setup, short stride, hands load back smoothly. Power approach at the plate, made consistent hard contact on balls put in play. Defensively recorded pop times ranging 2.18-2.26 in between innings.

SHB Kards

Boone Mathison, CF, Tomah, 2021
Highly athletic R/R centerfielder and lead off hitter. Handles the bat well, works the middle of the field. Above average runner out of the box, 4.43 on a 4-3, and 4.13 on a bunt attempt. Well above average defender in center, can go get it, light feet. High follow 2021 prospect.

Cooper Kapanke, INF, Eau Claire Memorial, 2019
6-foot-4, 200-pound right-handed hitter, long frame, projectable type. Hits from the right side, athletic setup in the box. Showed feel for the barrel, aggressive swing makes hard contact, some power potential. Finished the day with four hits, two for extra bases.

Carter Hesselman, RHP, Eau Claire North, 2019
6-foot-2, 165-pound, right-handed pitcher, athletic build, lanky frame. Works from a high ¾ slot with a clean, athletic arm action, shows the ball slightly on the back-side, repeats delivery. Fastball, running action, 78-80. Curveball, 11/5 shape, depth, 70-71. Competed on the mound, challenging each batter.

Jack Fentress, OF, Eau Claire Memorial, 2019
6-foot-4, 200-pound, right-handed hitting outfielder, large frame, broad shoulders, high waist, room for continued physical development. Balanced setup at the plate, smooth hanging leg kick, hands load back, sees the ball early, stays on it. Has power abilities, can lift balls gap-to-gap. Long strided runner, gains ground on the bases.

Trevor Gustafson, C, Webster, 2019
6-foot-2, 190-pound catcher, lean frame, projects. Defensively arm plays accurate, short over the top, threw out a runner on a 2.14. Bat path is short to the baseball, strong hands, found the barrel in several at bats.

Derek Myer, 3B, St. Croix Central, 2019
6-foot, 185-pound third baseman, thick body with some strength. Right-handed hitter, hits middle of the order. Was consistently on the barrel most of the weekend. 4.50 runner down the line.

Silver Sluggers Blue

Jordan Schaefer, RHP, Mount Horeb, 2019
Average height, thick build. On the mound, right-handed, works from a ¾ slot, short arm action. Deceptive delivery, hips and shoulders start closed and remain closed throughout delivery, upon plant levers work around spine, finishes towards first base. Fastball, run and sink action, 80-82. Curveball, tight 11/5 shape, feel for, not afraid to go inside with.

Silver Sluggers Grey

Jake Karll, OF, Madison West, 2019
6-foot-2, 190-pound, outfielder, broad shoulders, present strength. Offensively consistent drives the ball into the gaps, making square contact, level barrel path through the zone, strong wrists, athletic hands. Jailbreak runner out of the box, putting pressure on the defense.Went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored against ISA Stars Royal 17U.

Logan Lange, RHP, Sun Prairie, 2019
6-foot-1, 197-pound right-handed pitcher with durable build, thick lower half. Long arm action, high ¾ slot, with some deception. Fastball sat 76-79 mph, topped 80, hides the ball well so velocity played up, got regular swings and misses at the top of the zone with it. Curveball was 11/5 with some depth. Changeup was his go-to, 69-72 mph with fade, maintained arm speed, lots of weak contact. Mixed in a cut-slider, 75-76 mph, that earned some swings and misses through the zone. Held the eventual champs STiKS 17U their first couple times through the order before he became noticeably tired.

STiKS Academy

Bailey Banaszynski, RHP, Brookfield East, 2019
6-foot-1, 215-pound right-handed pitcher, thick durable build. Delivery works across body, creates some tilt and works downhill. Arm plays out of over the top slot. Fastball sat 84-86 mph, occasional command of the baseball, pounded the bottom of the zone. Curveball played 12/6 ability to drop for strikes. Changeup played at 77 mph with feel. Threw a complete game shutout.

Nathan Platter, RHP, Oconomowoc, 2019
6-foot-2, 180-pound, long-limbed, right-handed pitcher. Started on the mound and went 4.1 innings pitched. Nine of his 13 outs were groundouts. Long draw out of the glove, comes out of a high ¾ slot. Fastball, run and sink action, works to both sides of the plate, bores in on right-handed hitter, sat 81-85 mph. Worked primarily off his fastball. Only saw a few curveballs, 71 mph.

Alex Redman, LHP, New Berlin West, 2019
5-foot-10, 140-pound, average build, left-handed pitcher. Short, quick arm action from a high ¾ slot. Rotational delivery with effort, will pull off at times. Fastball jumps out of the hand, plays up through the hitting zone, got a number of late swings, sat 83-84 mph, touched 85. Breaking ball, slurve action, tight spin at times, 68-70 mph. Follow 2019 left-handed pitcher.

Tyler Brandenburg, DH/1B, Lake County Lutheran, 2019
6-foot-4, 220-pound, extra-large, wide-shouldered, right-handed hitting first baseman. Middle of the order bat. Possesses advanced bat strength, hunts the fastball and does not get cheated. Bat stays flat through the hitting zone, has the ability to backspin the baseball and creates bat speed. Hit a towering, game-winning, two-run home run to left field on Thursday night. Follow 2019 power bat.

Zach Lechnir, SS, Kimberly, 2019
5-foot-10, 155-pound, live-bodied shortstop. One of the top uncommitted 2019’s in the state. Plays the game with energy and bounce that is undeniable. Right-handed hitter, bats leadoff and is the table-setter for the offense. Ready to hit when he gets in the box, looks for the fastball and attacks the baseball. Advanced hand/eye and feel for the barrel. Simple swing, short path, line-drive approach and makes consistent hard contact. Lined a ball off the third baseman's glove for a double down the left-field line, 4.45 on the turn. Also, lined out hard at the second baseman and center field. Defensively, charges the baseball aggressively, quick, athletic footwork and sure hands. Exchange has length at times, long arm action, arm plays across the diamond.

Drew Lechnir, OF, Kimberly, 2019
5-foot-9, 160-pound left/left outfielder, lean strength. Hits out of a slightly open stance, slightly more upright than in the past, hands are loose and looks to stay on top of the baseball, will hit off front foot at times and can jump a fastball. Barrel control hitter who flashes pop to pull side, Stretch gap hits to triples with plus base running skills. Defensively is a premium centerfield prospect, can chase down to both gaps, gets great jumps and angles.

Riley LeTourneau, RHP, Brookfield East, 2019
6-foot-4, 210-pound right-handed pitcher, broad large build. Delivery looked under control and balanced in the first inning, showing above average feel for the fastball. Arm action is easy from a high ¾ slot. Only used fastball, sat 84-86 mph with easy and feel. Reached for 87-89 mph at times with average control, but easy velocity.

Logan Mantz, 2B, Slinger, 2019
6-foot-1, 190-pound right-handed hitting infielder, thick solid body type. Bat plays, shows control and feel of the barrel with gap to gap approach. Profiles as an offensive second baseman. Hits in the middle of the lineup for STiKS 17u. Ball will jump off the bat at times, showed hard contact throughout the week.

Miller Wallace, RHP/3B, Oconomowoc, 2019
5-foot-11, 195-pound two-way prospect with strong, sturdy build. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, short stride, keeps balance. Hard contact on level plane with bat speed. On the mound, right-handed, pitched in relief, short arm action from high ¾ to over-the-top slot. Quick arm speed with effort in relief role against Silver Sluggers 17U Grey. Fastball 83-85 mph, touched 87, some cut action. Curveball was 67-69 mph, some depth, mostly change-of-pace offering for now.

Trey Krause, LHP, Burlington, 2019
5-foot-11, 165-pound left-handed pitcher with lean, loose frame. Came out aggressive in his lone Badger State start against Silver Sluggers Grey 17U. Long, loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball was 85-87 mph in first inning with run and sink, but dialed it back to get more control in the innings after. Threw the curveball with confidence, 1/7, 68-70 mph, just having trouble locating on this day. Changeup in warmups was 77-78 mph with arm speed intact.

Team Heat

Adam Juran, C, Sauk Prairie, 2019
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Premium defender behind the plate, arm carries well and accurate, soft receiver. Arm plays athletically, quick release. Showed occasional barrel with a triple to the opposite field gap.

Sam Cincotta, RHP, Jefferson HS, 2019
6-foot-2, 165-pound, long, lean right-handed pitcher with some projectability. On the mound, some effort in delivery, head gets off line, lands closed. Arm works from a high ¾ slot., some looseness. Fastball, thrown for strikes, sat 79-82 mph. Curveballs, 11/5 shape, 68-70 mph.

Changeup, slows arm, 68-69 mph.

Thundercat Baseball Black

Sam Pederson, RHP, Verona, 2019
6-foot-2, 170-pound right-handed pitcher with a projectable frame. On the mound, short, quick arm action from a ¾ to high ¾ arm slot. High leg kick, in line direction, lands square. Fastball, occasional run, sat 83-86 mph, topped at 87 in the first two innings before settling in at 79-82 mph.
Curveball, 11/5 shape, 66-69 mph, lacked feel. Walked six batters over six innings but was able to work out of some jams and limit damage.

Spencer Hans, SS/2B, Lake Mills, 2019
Ranked No. 58 in the WI 2019 class. 5-foot-8, 160-pound, athletic, right-handed hitting middle infielder. Hits from a balanced setup with a short stride. Above average bat speed, line drive type hitter. Also laid down a well executed push bunt for an infield single. Defensively, fluid footwork with a clean exchange. Showed an accurate arm across the diamond.

Jake Hesseling, SS/2B, Janesville Craig, 2019
6-foot, 160-pound, right-handed middle infielder with an athletic frame. Offensively, hits from an open setup with a slight leg kick. Gap-to-gap approach with a slightly uphill path. Clocked at a 4.45 home to first on a bunt. Defensively, fluid footwork with a clean exchange, accurate arm.

Nick Brazelton, RHP, Oconomowoc, 2019
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed pitcher. Delivery works across his body, lower half works, slight drop and drive type, finishes to first base side. Arm plays from a high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 82-84 mph, touched 85 mph once, occasional arm side action. Curveball has slurve type action, 67-69 mph. Competed well for seven inning CG win.

Chance Larson, OF, Elkhorn, 2019
6-foot-2, 175-pound, lanky, lean frame, athletically-built, right-handed hitting outfielder. Balanced setup offensively, short leg lift stride, hands load back. Hands work athletically, barrel path is short to the ball, line drive approach. Hits in the three-hole, patient, does not chase, waits for his pitch. Pulled a pitch down the right field line for a triple in first at-bat of semifinals. Long, easy strides around the basepaths. Defensively, covers ground well with long, athletic strides, made a nice diving catch in right field.

Matt Olive, C/RHP, Blake School (MN), 2020
6-foot, 185-pound, right-handed pitcher with an athletic frame. On the mound, in line direction with a closed landing. Loose, quick arm action from an over the top angle. Fastball, sat 80-82 mph, touching 84 once. Changeup, flashed fading action, 74 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 70-71 mph.

Appleton Panthers

Chris Vandenheuvel, CF, Xavier, 2020
6-foot, 170-pound left/left center fielder, athletic body type carries above average strength at his age. Athletic setup, showed feel for the barrel, gap to gap type approach, flat path through contact, barrel stays in the zone. Above average runner, hit a pair of triples on the day, turned one at 4.39.  

Kaden Krueger, LHP, Appleton West, 2020
6-foot-1, 190-pound left-handed pitcher, strong athletic build. Quick arm action out of a high ¾ slot. Came out of the pen in relief to close out a game. Fastball reached 87 mph, sat 83-85 mph. Curveball is slower tempo, 61-65 mph, average feel.

Bay Port

Brock Noe, RHP, Bay Port, 2020
5-foot-10, 160-pound, long, lanky, tall right handed pitcher. Quick, high leg kick with repeatable delivery. Throws slightly across body, lands athletic and out front. Pitched to contact all day, commanded both his fastball and curveball to both sides of the plate. Pitched low in the zone, allowing his defense to work behind him. He walked twice, barreled up a couple deep flyouts against the wind, and lined a clutch, two-run single through the left side of the infield in his team’s second game. He played right field in game one and occupied second base in game two.
