October 26th, 2021

Dear School Community,

On Monday, October 25th, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) released updated quarantine guidance titled “Mask to Stay, Test to Play”, indicating that staff and students who come into contact with a positive case of Covid-19, who are unvaccinated or unmasked, may continue to attend school and participate in extracurricular activities with additional precautions.

Minerva Local Schools mandated the safety measure of wearing a face covering for the purpose of keeping students in school.  The updated guidance described below no longer requires a student to be wearing a mask or be vaccinated in order for them to remain at school and involved in extracurriculars.  Therefore, effective TOMORROW- Wednesday, October 27th,  wearing a face covering in Minerva Local School buildings is RECOMMENDED, but not required.   **PLEASE NOTE, a face covering is still required by Federal order for staff and students on school transportation.**

A student/staff person who is exposed to Covid-19 and considered a close contact WITHIN the school or school-related setting who continues to attend/participate, shall adhere to the following procedure(s):

For School Attendance (Mask to Stay):

  1. Wear a multi-layer mask for 14 days after the last date of exposure (above nose & under chin)
  2. Self/Parent-Monitor for Covid-19 Symptoms
  3. Isolate and get tested* if symptoms develop (regardless of severity)
  1. Students/Staff may test* beginning day 6, if negative, he/she may cease the above protocols on day 8

For Extracurricular Participation (Test to Play):

  1. Participant must be asymptomatic
  2. Wear a multi-layer mask for 14 days after the last date of exposure (above nose & under chin)
  3. Test* on initial notification of exposure to Covid-19
  4. Test* again beginning day 6, if negative, may test out of quarantine for day 8

*The tests referenced above must be SARS-CoV-2 (PCR or Antigen) tests and must be proctored in order to be utilized for the purposes indicated above.

A negative result must be sent ahead of the student’s return to in order to be cleared. The email must include the student/staff's name as well as the building or activity they are associated with.

The guidance that I have issued throughout this process has been through a collaboration of our local and State health departments as well as a reflection of our local data.  While the District is making this move to recommend face coverings, I will continue to monitor our local data and if it indicates a need, we may find ourselves in a position where additional safety precautions will be needed once again.

As always, I ask that you perform home health checks and do not send your child to school if they are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19. This shift in school policy and quarantine procedure will take time for our school community to adjust to.  This change may be easy for some but just as challenging for others. I ask for your patience as the District adjusts to this process and for all to continue to respect the decisions of those who continue to wear a face covering in school.  Please reach out to your building administrator or myself if you have any questions or concerns.
