NEWSLETTER 20                                                                                           15th July 2019

Dear families

What a fantastic year!  The 2018/19 academic year has been super busy and we have so much to celebrate - from Ofsted and SIAMs inspections to nativities and talent shows - ultimately it is our wonderful children who make us proud every day.  The past two weeks have been no exception!

Firstly, sports day!  Thank you to everyone who came along to support the children last Tuesday.  We hope you enjoyed the mix of inclusive and competitive sports. There was great sportsmanship, excellent team work and some superb individual talent on show - we were very proud of you all!

The children have also all spent time visiting their new classes and were confident and positive as they went off for transition afternoon.  All teachers commented on how well they embraced their new class and it was lovely to see so many children excited about next year already.

Years 2 and 5 had a fantastic time on their joint trip to Marwell Zoo.  All staff have commented on how beautifully behaved the children were and how engaged they were with the trip.  They were a real credit to the school.

We were also WOWED by our amazing iRock rockstars last week! The bands invited their parents to come and watch them in their first performance and we were thoroughly impressed by how much they had learnt in such a short time! Amazing!  iRock will continue to run next year.

We hope you all safely received your child’s report on Friday.  If there is anything you would like to discuss in the report, please make an appointment to see your child’s teacher.

The next week and a half promises to be just as action packed!  Years 4 and 5 are performing a concert to their families, years 3 and 5 are holding a clarinet and violin recital, year 6 have a talent show for parents as well as their Leavers’ Service and all classes have end of term activities such as trips to the park to look forward to!  Please send your children in with a large carrier bag or rucksack this week as they will be bringing home all their workbooks and wonderful creations from the year!

At the end of next week, we will be saying goodbye to Kathy Jolley as she leaves to work at GEMS and to Jan Heapy who retires after 36 years working at Hagbourne School!  We’re not quite sure the school will ever be the same without Jan - Hagbourne is her second home and she really will never, ever be forgotten!  Many of your children will have fond memories of them both.  They will be greatly missed - please do wish them well if you see them around school this week.

Thank you so much for your support this year and we are already looking forward to next year - when Mrs Dobson will take over newsletter writing duties (amongst other things!).  Wishing you a very relaxing (and hopefully sunny) summer break and look forward to seeing you all in September.

Very best wishes

Mrs Lewis

Pyjama Day

May Bank Holiday - change of date!

The government have announced the bank holiday, set for Monday 4th May 2020, would be switched to Friday 8th May 2020, to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day.  This will be reflected in our term dates next year.

Save the Date!

The PTA are just starting to organise a circus themed ‘welcome event’ for the afternoon of Saturday 28th September.  This will be a great chance to meet other parents and families in your children’s classes.  We hope to see lots of you there.  If you are able to offer any help in organising or running the event, please let the PTA or school office know.

Medical Updates

If there have been any changes or updates to your child’s medical needs, including medications and allergies, please ensure that you inform the school and fill out the relevant forms.  If your child has an inhaler or epipen in school please check the medication is in date!

Please can we also ask parents to let us know if your child was injured or particularly unwell over the weekend.  If we are aware of any injuries we can be best prepared to follow up as needed.

Please also remember we are a nut and sesame seed free school, can we ask that you do not send your children in with any nut product - this includes Nutella and Peanut butter.

RM Unify

Remember all children have a log in to RM Unify (which can be found in their reading record or homework diary).  Please use these websites to support your child’s learning at home.  RM Unify can be accessed via the Pupil Area on the school website or via the following link https://hagbourneschool.rmunify.com/.  Children in Key Stage 2 now also have access to Times Tables Rockstars to support them with learning their times tables.

Car Park

Please could we ask that only Blue Badge holders park in the disabled spaces in the village hall.  Please also take care not to block these spaces in.  We do have families in our own school who need to use these spaces and they may also be needed by Blue Badge holders from the wider community.  If this continues to be an issue, we will ask the local PCSOs to monitor the situation.

Lunch Menu

Please see here for next terms menu, remember to log onto Live Kitchen and select school lunches.
