Instructions
The main idea of the final assignment is to analyze spatial accessibility based on openly available data. This assignment is not accurately defined, as the idea is to allow you to use your own imagination and interest to explore different datasets and conduct analyzes that interest you, still providing useful insights about the given indicator in the areas that you picked. You should pick some of the options from the following tasks:
- Analyze and compare accessibility in two different cities to a specific service by a given transport mode
- Analyze and compare accessibility by different transport modes (e.g. transit vs cycling or car) in a selected city to a specific service
- Analyze and compare accessibility to different services by given transport mode(s) in a given city
What should be returned?
As an output of this project, you should:
- Create a report using Jupyter Notebook (approx. 10 pages written text A4) that documents your work, results and codes (excluded from the page limit). The report should be returned as a PDF which you can export from Jupyter Lab.
The report should be returned to Jukka. (Deadline for that is Feb 16th, 2024)
Where to find data?
Here are a few places from where you can download the datasets that are needed for analyzing accessibility (i.e. OSM and GTFS data):
OpenStreetMap data in PBF-format:
- GeoFabrik -website. Has data extracts for many pre-defined areas (countries, regions, etc).
- BBBike -website. Has data extracts readily available for many cities across the world. Also supports downloading data by specifying your own area or interest.
- Protomaps -website. Allows to download the data with custom extent by specifying your own area of interest.
GTFS data:
- GTFS.de - GTFS feeds for the whole Germany.
- Transitfeeds -website. Easy to navigate and find GTFS data for different countries and cities. Includes current and historical GTFS data. Notice: The site will be depracated in the future.
- Mobility Database -website. Will eventually replace TransitFeeds -website.
- Transitland -website. Find data based on country, operator or feed name. Includes current and historical GTFS data.
