LLSVLL 2025 AA Bylaws
The Board of Directors of LLSV Little League has adopted these bylaws for the 2025 Season. These rules shall be followed without exception by ALL teams.
AA - The goal of this division is to introduce pitching, playmaking, and base running to players who have successfully completed the coach pitch division with LLSVLL or who have been assigned to this division pursuant to a skill assessment.
Pre- Season
- Teams are encouraged to have at least 2 practices per week and no more than 4 practices per week prior to the start of the season.
- Teams will be organized according to coach selection, considering grade school and home address.
- Home teams will use the third base dugout; visiting teams will use the first base dugout.
Season
- Pitch count will be kept by the home team book. Teams are encouraged to keep score as an introduction to learning this skill and preparing for the AAA division, but scores are not reported and scoring records are not kept.
- Coaches will umpire from behind the mound when their team is at bat. This allows for a quick change to coach pitch once a walk occurs.
- Coaches are not permitted out on the field to help players with defensive positioning. This division is intended to prepare our players for the AAA and major divisions.
- There will be 2 games and at least one practice per week (with no more than 2 practices each week).
- All teams are required to use a continuous batting line up throughout the game.
- 1.5 hour time limit on games. No new inning shall start after 1.5 hours.
- An inning is completed once 3 outs are recorded or 5 runs are scored by the hitting team.
- The following run rules are in effect and the losing team will concede the game: 15 runs after 3 innings; 10 runs after 4 innings; and 8 runs after 5 innings.
- There is free substitution in the field, but coaches are required to play all players for at least 3 defensive outs. We encourage our coaches to play everyone equally when the players put in the effort at practice, but this is a coach decision.
- Level 5 balls will be used during game play.
- All fielders will be placed in regular positions, with 9 players maximum on the field. All infield players must be in proper infield positions: Pitcher, catcher, 1st base, 2nd base, shortstop, and 3rd base.
- A courtesy runner is allowed and encouraged for catchers with 2 outs to speed the game up.
Pitching/Gameplay
- AA will be player pitch with a distance no closer than 41’ but we recommend 46’ be used.
- Bases will be at 60’; the same as AAA and majors divisions.
- No walks will be awarded.
- After 4 balls are thrown to a batter the hitting team coach will pitch a maximum 4 pitches (no closer than 41’). The count does not matter at this point and the player now has 4 pitches from the coach to hit the ball. If the player does not hit the ball, an out is recorded. If the 4th pitch is fouled off, an additional pitch may be made. The coach can stand or kneel while pitching to kids.
- If at all possible, an assistant coach should be positioned behind the catcher to collect passed balls and return them to the opposing coach behind the pitcher to speed up the pace of play.
- Coaches are encouraged to instruct their batters to swing at pitches in and near the strike zone to prevent players from purposefully taking pitches in order to have their coach pitch to them. A main purpose of this division is to teach players to hit from player pitches, not to delay hitting in order to return to coach pitch.
- No illegal pitches as described by the LL rule book.
- Pitchers can throw a maximum of two innings per game or 50 pitches, whichever comes first. Pitch counts must be kept by teams and reported on our website with the score by the home team.
- Coaches are encouraged to spend significant time in practice developing pitching skills and focusing on throwing strikes. Coaches are also encourages to give every player the opportunity to pitch and learn how to pitch in practice. However, coaches are encouraged to select pitchers during games that have demonstrated the ability to pitch by their work in practice. The goal here is for every player that wants to pitch to develop basic pitching skills during the season (albeit likely at different points in the season for each player). Asking a player to pitch, or allowing a player to pitch when they request to, without the ability to throw strikes will result in a bad experience for that player and for your team and will significantly slow the pace of play (leading to an undesirable experience for both teams).
- If a batter is hit during an at bat the player pitch for that batter is completed. The batter will be allowed to take their base. Coaches will instruct their batters to stay within the batter’s box while batting to avoid purposefully crowding the plate.
- A pitcher must be removed if they hit 4 batters.
- No stealing is allowed in this division, and runners may not advance on overthrows from a catcher returning the ball to the pitcher after a pitch is thrown.
- Players may advance one base on overthrown balls from fielders attempting to make a play. No advancement can be made on throws to the pitcher from a fielder or catcher.
- In general, we want players to attempt to make plays, we want them to attempt to make accurate throws. Pushing them to do so will help their player development moving forward. We want to teach them to run the bases correctly and be aggressive without running all over the field. In doing this, be mindful to not run on every overthrown ball if backup is there. Try to send runners on plays you would actually send them on when they are older.
