Purpose: Students will learn how to control and use Vex Robotics kits via the VexCode v5 programming language (blocks/Python) to complete challenges and activities

Assemble the robot chassis and program directional movement controls

Construct and attach the claw assembly; program open/close and grip functions

Integrate color sensors; program object detection and line-following algorithm

Write automated code to navigate the obstacle course and run initial tests.

Finalize remaining build tasks, debug code, and complete the final challenge.

Prerequisite Requirements:

Students should be fluent in basic computer usage, such as typing using the QWERTY keyboard format, mouse usage, and basic knowledge of website access.

Students should know their student login, which is the STUDENT EMAIL and STUDENT PASSWORD prior to signing up for the camp.

Course Materials:

All necessary materials will be provided in the computer lab. The camp uses VEX Robotics and VEXcode V5 for building and programming robots.

COMPUTERS AND SOFTWARE ARE PROVIDED, but there is limited space available.

IMPORTANT: SCHOOL DISTRICT DOMAINS OTHER THAN RICHLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT MAY NOT WORK. PREPARE ACCORDINGLY IF THE STUDENT IS NOT CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN RICHLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT. PLEASE CONTACT US IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT SCHOOL DOMAINS.

Expectations & Policies:

  1. Treat technology and equipment with respect. Abuse of technology such as but not limited to unapproved downloads, playing unapproved games, or physical damage to school property may result in dismissal from the camp.

  1. Absolutely no food or drinks, with the exception of water in a closed container, will be permitted in the computer lab. However, snacks and drinks are allowed outside of the lab.
