Here is what’s happening this week!

ELA

Caroline Scerbin

EQ: How can I be more Media Literate?

We continue to read  a LOT,  watch videos, discuss, and write  about topics that affect our own Media Literacy.

Scholars now know that Recommendation Algorithms deliver to them exactly what appeals to them,  creating a filter bubble.  These algorithms use our own cognitive and confirmation biases to reinforce what we already believe. They also use Rhetorical Devices (Ethos, Pathos, Logos) loaded language,  misinformation, and fake news. In order to be critical thinking consumers of information we have learned ways to analyze what we see and hear online, including understanding what DIALECTICAL THINKING is and how LATERAL READING (ask about each!) can be an awesome tool to help us separate facts from misinformation.

This makes for an awesome “dinner table” discussion!

This unit explores how we perceive and interpret the information around us. We will be examining what being media literate means, and how to think critically about what we see and read online and on social media.
