IOWA CITY EELS SWIM CLUB PHOTOGRAPHY POLICY

PURPOSE

The Iowa City Eels Swim Club (ICE) wants to ensure that images of its swimmers are taken and used appropriately and with consent.

POLICY

All photographs must observe generally accepted standards of decency and, in particular, shall adhere to the following guidelines:

• Action shots should be a celebration of the sporting activity and not a sexualized image in a sporting context.

• Action shots should not be taken or retained where the photograph reveals a torn or displaced swimsuit.

• Photographs should not be taken from behind swimming blocks at the start of a race or exhibit a child climbing out of the swimming pool.

• Photographs should not be taken in locker‐rooms or bathrooms.

A parent or legal guardian has the right to refuse permission to ICE to photograph and use images of his or her child. Upon registering a minor swimmer as a member of ICE, the parent or legal guardian will be informed of the club’s photography policy and will be given the opportunity to grant or withhold consent of the use of the minor athlete’s image. The exercise of the right of refusal cannot be used as grounds for denying membership in the club. A form for exercising a right of refusal is attached to this policy as Appendix A.

APPENDIX A

Photography Consent Form

Iowa City Eels Swim Club may wish to take photographs (individual and in groups) of swimmers under the age of 18 that may include your child during their membership in the club. All photos will be taken and published in line with club policy. The club requires parental consent to take and use photographs.

Parents have a right to refuse agreement to the use of the image of their child.
