Student Art

One of our students in kindergarten, Cameron, heard The Book of Rules as a read aloud by Mrs. Sorensen; she then created a drawing based on a character from the book.  We shared the illustration with the author of the book, and now the illustration is the author's Twitter handle.  So cute and exciting!

Reminder

School starts at 8:10 a.m. If your child gets to school after 8:10, they are marked tardy. When they enter the classroom, after the bell, it causes the class schedule to fall behind. This is due to the teacher needing to log back into the attendance program to change the student’s attendance status from absent to tardy and check in their homework after the bell.

After 8:10 a.m. the teacher will be engaged and teaching, which sometimes means the students attendance status doesn't get corrected and a tardy student may be left as absent.  When this occurs the parent will then receive a phone call that indicates that their child is absent, even if they were dropped off.

Please help the teacher and class stay on schedule by getting your child to school before the 8:07 a.m. bell.

Your support is GREATLY appreciated!

Reliability

“You can count on me to use the right words in the right way”

Last week, we focused on what the right words to use and the right time to use those words. This week, we are going to look at how to communicate effectively. When we use effective communication skills, we are also using the right words at the right time. There are 3 main ways to communicate with others.

  1. Passive communication is a style in which you avoid telling others your needs, feelings or opinions. Passive communicators tend to avoid eye contact when speaking with others. They usually do not respond to others when something hurtful is being said.

  1. Aggressive communication: a person might speak in a loud and demanding voice. They often ask questions rudely and fail to listen to others. An aggressive communicator is focused on “winning” the argument at all costs.

  1. Assertive communication: This is the most effective way to communicate with others! Assertive communicators are able to express their needs, options and feelings while still thinking about others. Assertive communicators utilize “I” statements to have ownership over their feelings and behaviors without blaming others. Assertive communication relies on using the right words at the right time!
