Voices For Liberation (V4L) International Dance Festival: Dancing The Diaspora
A virtual dance festival to raise funds, and bring awareness to
the work of Grown Women Dance Collective in reversing disenfranchised
and fractured communities through performance, wellness and career preparation.
Dancing The Diaspora is a 2-hour virtual telethon-style event that will livestream on Saturday, May 22nd from 7:30pm to 9:30pm PST (10:30pm to 12:30am EST) to raise money and support for Grown Women Dance Collective (GWDC). The event came about from a long-awaited passion project of a V4L volunteer Gary Stanford, Jr. He is a recognized San Francisco Bay Area director, producer, choreographer and performing artist, who had a vision to tell the story of the African Diaspora through dance, while supporting not only the international dancers abroad, but also supporting organizations that uplift and serve the community here at home. V4L has named Grown Women Dance Collective (GWDC) their beneficiary for the May 22nd performance, in support of their Pilates Post-Rehabilitation Joyful Movement Life Skills Certification program. GWDC founder and creator of this visionary certification program, Tonya Marie Amos, has been working tirelessly, for years, to bring art and wellness programs to disinvested communities. “Dancing the Diaspora” will showcase performances of our beneficiary Grown Women Dance Collective (Oakland), as well as L’Acadco: A United Caribbean Dance Force (Jamaica), Haiti Creafo Danse (Haiti), Divas and Drummers of Compton (LA, finalists on AGT), and Jarrel Phillips and the Capoeira Ijexa (SF Bay Area), who are all performing in support of the GWDC’s vital certification program on May 22nd!
At the performance, we will witness these beautiful dancers, hear their stories and learn about the wonderful work Grown Women Dance Collective has done. More importantly, we will hear about their exciting certification program that will help prevent the disenfranchisement and fracturing of communities at risk of gentrification. The dancers, handfuls of volunteers, individual sponsors and supporters are eager to help Grown Women Dance Collective reach a goal of $20,000 in donations. The telethon style event will provide high quality entertainment and have the opportunity to donate to the GWDC organization directly.
The performance will be offered at a low ticket price of $8 to view via livestream, simply purchase your tickets here: Dancing The Diaspora Tickets
