PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE/ MENSAJE DE LA DIRECTORA - June 7, 2026

This final communication of the 2025-2026 academic cycle includes information that may be helpful to you over the summer or in your preparations for the coming year. It is also my final message before my retirement at the end of the month. As I mentioned before, serving as the principal of Mt. Pleasant High School for the past four years has been one of the greatest honors of my professional life. I am profoundly grateful to our students, families, staff, and the broader community for the trust, partnership, and support you have shown me during this time. Together, we have celebrated successes, faced challenges with resilience, and continued to strengthen a school community rooted in care, opportunity, and pride.

What makes Mt. Pleasant truly special is not any single program or initiative-it is our people. Our dedicated teachers and staff, our passionate students, and our supportive families bring our mission to life every day. Because of this shared commitment, Mt. Pleasant High School is vibrant, resilient, and full of promise.

I will leave at the end of this month with great confidence in our school's future. The foundation we have built together, guided by our mission, our values, and our unwavering belief in the potential of every student, will continue to move Mt. Pleasant forward. The Cardinal spirit is strong, and I know this community will continue to inspire, uplift, and empower the next generation of leaders. Thank you for the privilege of serving this remarkable community. I will always carry with me the memories, relationships, and deep pride of being part of Mt. Pleasant High School.

BELL SCHEDULE FOR 2026-2027

Next year, the school will continue using the same schedule with two main schedules and the PRIDE schedule for activities that end at 3:40 PM. If your student had trouble arriving at school at 8:30 AM, we recommend requesting a 2nd-period start.  Please email Mr. JD Do at doh@esuhsd.org to request this change by June 30, 2026.

We are deeply grateful to all the parents who contributed to our Finals Week Breakfast. For the last three days, students were welcomed each morning by this wonderful display of generosity and care, and their appreciation was evident. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the parents who volunteered their time to help set up and serve our students, as well as to Ms. Heredia for arriving early each morning to prepare everything. Your support, dedication, and commitment to our students helped make this special tradition a success and provided encouragement during an important week of the school year. Thank you for making a positive difference in the lives of our students.

We are also incredibly proud of our newest graduates! We gathered for a beautiful and heartfelt ceremony to celebrate their achievements and send them off to the next exciting chapter of their lives. This year, our new venue provided a wonderful setting, with outdoor patios that allowed families and friends to continue celebrating our students' accomplishments together after the ceremony. It was a joyful evening filled with pride, gratitude, and hope for the future. Congratulations and farewell, Class of 2025! We wish you every success as you pursue your dreams and make your mark on the world.

MENSAJE DE LA DIRECTORA - 7 de junio

Estimadas familias,

Esta comunicación final del año académico 2025-2026 incluye información que puede serle útil durante el verano o en sus preparativos para el próximo año. También es mi último mensaje antes de mi jubilación a finales de este mes. Como mencioné anteriormente, servir como directora de la Escuela Secundaria Mt. Pleasant, durante los últimos cuatro años, ha sido uno de los mayores honores de mi vida profesional. Estoy profundamente agradecida con nuestros estudiantes, familias, personal y la comunidad en general por la confianza, la colaboración y el apoyo que me han brindado durante este tiempo. Juntos, hemos celebrado éxitos, enfrentado desafíos con resiliencia y fortalecido una comunidad escolar gracias a la  preocupación por los demás y por sus oportunidades, manteniendo nuestro orgullo.

Lo que hace que Mt. Pleasant sea verdaderamente especial no es un solo programa o iniciativa, sino su gente. Nuestros dedicados maestros y miembros del personal, nuestros apasionados estudiantes y nuestras familias solidarias dan vida a nuestra misión cada día. Gracias a este compromiso compartido, Mt. Pleasant es una escuela dinámica, resiliente y llena de promesas.

Los dejo al final de este mes con gran confianza en el futuro de nuestra escuela. SENIORS GRADUATION LOGISTICS PRESENTATION

Seniors attended a presentation on checkout procedures, ticket distribution, graduation practice, and the ceremony itself. Please see the slides here. We want to remind families to leave at home anything that might obstruct other families' view of their graduates, such as balloons, large stuffed animals, big posters, etc. Families will be required to leave these items outside the venue.

CARDINAL PRIDE

We are beaming with pride as Ansor Abdulhamidov has been honored with the John Dawson Leadership Award, named in recognition of one of SVUDL’s co-founders. This prestigious award celebrates students who demonstrate exceptional leadership, integrity, and compassion within the Speech and Debate community. This year, Ansor earned the award through his steady leadership, outstanding sportsmanship, and unwavering commitment to helping his teammates grow and succeed. His positive influence and dedication have made a lasting impact on those around him. Learn more about Ansor’s inspiring story and discover why he was selected as this year’s recipient of the John Dawson Leadership Award.

We are proud to celebrate our students who were awarded six scholarships of $2,500 each by AdHere. This marks the second consecutive year that AdHere has invested in the success of our students through these generous scholarships. The scholarship recipients were recognized at our Honor Night and were later honored at a special dinner at the Silver Creek Valley Country Club. We are grateful to AdHere for their continued support of our students and their educational goals. A special thank you to Ms. Cabrera for chaperoning the event and supporting our students during this memorable celebration.

Congratulations to all of our student-athletes who were recognized this week for their dedication, hard work, and participation in athletics. It was especially inspiring to see a Mt. Pleasant alumna return to campus as a coach, giving back to the same community that helped shape their journey. We also extend our congratulations to all the students who earned awards for their achievements and contributions to their teams. Their commitment, perseverance, and sportsmanship make our school proud. A special thank you to Mr. Lopez for organizing such a wonderful celebration and for recognizing the accomplishments of our student-athletes.

It was a joy to celebrate our students who will be continuing their education at postsecondary institutions during our Second Annual College T-Shirt Fashion Show. The event was a fun and spirited celebration of our seniors' accomplishments and future plans. Adding to the excitement, several staff members proudly wore apparel representing their own colleges and universities, while our cheerleaders energized the crowd with a spirited performance. A special highlight of the event was a memorable dance performance by Charlie Tu, which delighted everyone in attendance. Thank you to Ms. Chacon for organizing this wonderful ceremony in collaboration with our Counseling Team. Our talented students were invited to perform at the Grand Opening of Kidango’s Toyon Learning Center, a new facility that will provide valuable learning opportunities and support services for children and families in the Alum Rock community. We are incredibly proud of our Palomas, whose talent, dedication, and cultural pride continue to earn them invitations to perform at community events throughout the region. Their performances not only showcase their hard work but also strengthen the connection between our school and the community we serve. Dear families,

Tomorrow, we celebrate Memorial Day by honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve the freedoms that we enjoy.  Let’s all pause to reflect on their legacy and what it means for all of us who live in this country.

After Memorial Day, we have only a few days of school left.  This is a critical week for Seniors.  They will start their final demonstrations of knowledge in their regularly scheduled courses starting Tuesday, May 26, and Senior F Day is Thursday, May 28.  Please check our section for seniors below for specific information for the 12th graders. The rest of the grades will be working on their final reviews to be ready to take their final demonstrations of knowledge on June 2-4.

FINALS SCHEDULE

Seniors will have their final demonstrations of knowledge from May 26 to May 28 during their regularly scheduled days. Students in grades 9th to 11th will have their final demonstrations of knowledge from June 2 to June 4th, according to the schedule below.  Students with a 2-7 period schedule start their Monday at 11:00 pm, and students without a 7th period can leave at the end of their 2nd-period final.

CARDINAL PRIDE

We are always proud of our students’ achievements, and it is especially meaningful when one of our own returns home to inspire the next generation. This week, Mr. Caces welcomed Ms. Shei Sutton, an MP graduate and successful business owner, to speak with our students. Ms. Sutton shared her experiences as a student at MP—where she still holds records as a standout track athlete—along with her journey through college and into entrepreneurship. As a talented graphic designer, she has contributed to the design and marketing of a Barbie collaboration for Mattel and Target. Thank you to Mr. Caces for organizing such an inspiring and impactful presentation for our students.

We are incredibly proud of our students who participated in the trip to Sacramento with Senator Dave Cortese. During the visit, students had the opportunity to hear from and be inspired by several representatives as they shared their work and initiatives to serve their communities. The experience provided valuable insight into leadership, civic engagement, and public service. We are deeply thankful to Ms. Gao for organizing this meaningful opportunity and to Ms. Estrada for serving as a chaperone and supporting our students throughout the trip.

We are proud of the students in Mr. Hartung’s Ethnic Studies and AP African American Studies classes, who organized a powerful fair to showcase their investigations into important issues of social justice and social strife, including racism, slavery, women’s rights, and immigration. Students spoke passionately and thoughtfully about their topics and the insights they gained through their research. Their presentations reflected not only academic growth, but also empathy, critical thinking, and a deep sense of social awareness. Thank you, Mr. Hartung, for inspiring our students to think critically, engage courageously, and develop a strong sense of social responsibility.

We are incredibly proud of our students in the Speech and Debate club, who have worked tirelessly throughout the year to develop their skills and talents. Although many of their achievements and accolades in competitions outside MP have largely gone unseen by our own student body, this showcase provided them with a well-deserved opportunity to shine. It also gave the rest of the students a chance to better understand the purpose, rigor, and impact of the Speech and Debate Club. The participants were truly impressive—confident, articulate, and exceptionally poised in their presentations. I have no doubt that this showcase will inspire even more students to join and help the club grow exponentially. Thank you, Mr. Hartung, for your tireless dedication and commitment to creating such meaningful opportunities for our students.

Our promise of college and career readiness becomes a reality through the hard work, perseverance, and dedication of our students. Senior Honor Night celebrated students who have risen to the top through outstanding academic achievement, remarkable accomplishments, and scholarships that will support their future endeavors. These are some of the pictures of the students who participated in the event.  You can see the enormous pride in their faces for a job well done.  Congratulations to all our students, thank you to ASB for supporting the event, and to our counseling team for organizing such a beautiful and memorable ceremony for our students and their families.

On Thursday, we welcomed our Superintendent and Cabinet, who visited to officially introduce Mr. Paul Landshof as our incoming principal. Mr. Landshof addressed both staff and students for the first time, sharing his excitement about joining the MP community and becoming part of the Cardinal family. As part of the warm welcome, he was presented with an MP PRIDE shirt to officially welcome him as a Cardinal. We are excited for the leadership and vision he will bring to our school community. Mr. Landshof will officially begin his duties on July 1st.

Thursday was a busy day that ended with a fun tradition of our Cardinal family, the duct tape boats.  Several heats of competition showed students the impact of design on maintaining buoyancy and maximizing speed in water. We congratulate all of our students who participated, and we are thankful to Mr. Wou, who brings the joy and relevance of Physics to our students every day. Our final rally of the year was filled with energy, school spirit, and celebration, providing a memorable way to recognize the incredible work of our ASB student leaders. The activities were engaging and fun, bringing students together in true Cardinal fashion and creating an atmosphere of excitement and pride. Throughout the year, ASB has worked tirelessly to organize events, build community, and create meaningful experiences for our students, and this rally reflected their dedication and creativity. As this year’s ASB students close one chapter, they proudly pass the baton to the next group of student leaders, who will continue the tradition of service, leadership, and school spirit. We ended the week with the MP Spirit Block Party, a lively celebration filled with food, games, music, and entertainment that brought our community together in a fun and memorable way. One of the highlights of the event was the Jungkook look-alike contest, which quickly turned into an exciting dance challenge between our own Charlie Ta and a student from James Lick. The crowd was fully engaged and entertained, ultimately declaring the competition a tie as both students delivered impressive performances. Events like these remind us of the joy, creativity, and school spirit that make our community so special, while also strengthening the connection with one of our sister schools. Estimadas familias,

Mañana conmemoramos Memorial Day,  rindiendo homenaje a aquellos que hicieron el sacrificio supremo para preservar las libertades de las que hoy disfrutamos. Hagamos todos una pausa para reflexionar sobre su legado y lo que este significa para todos nosotros, quienes vivimos en este país.

Tras el Memorial Day, nos quedan apenas unos pocos días de clases. Esta es una semana crucial para los estudiantes de último año. A partir del martes 26 de mayo, comenzarán a realizar sus evaluaciones finales de conocimientos en sus asignaturas habituales; asimismo, el jueves 28 de mayo se celebrará el «Senior F Day». Por favor, consulten a continuación nuestra sección dedicada a los estudiantes de último año para obtener información específica dirigida a los alumnos de 12.º grado. El resto de los grados se dedicará a realizar sus repasos finales para estar preparados para presentar sus evaluaciones finales de conocimientos entre los días 2 y 4 de junio.

Esta semana, el Sr. Caces recibió a la Sra. Shei Sutton —graduada de MP y exitosa empresaria— para que conversara con nuestros alumnos. La Sra. Sutton compartió sus experiencias como estudiante en MP —institución donde aún conserva récords como destacada atleta de pista—, así como su trayectoria universitaria y su incursión en el mundo de los negocios. Como talentosa diseñadora gráfica, ha contribuido al diseño y a la comercialización de una colaboración de Barbie para Mattel y Target. Agradecemos al Sr. Caces por organizar una presentación tan inspiradora y de gran impacto para nuestros estudiantes.

Estamos increíblemente orgullosos de nuestros estudiantes que participaron en el viaje a Sacramento junto con el senador Dave Cortese. Durante la visita, los estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de escuchar a diversos representantes —y de inspirarse en ellos— mientras compartían su labor y sus iniciativas para servir a sus comunidades. Esta experiencia les brindó valiosas perspectivas sobre el liderazgo, el compromiso cívico y el servicio público. Agradecemos profundamente a la Sra. Gao por organizar esta significativa oportunidad, y a la Sra. Estrada por acompañar al grupo y brindar su apoyo a nuestros estudiantes a lo largo de todo el viaje.

Estamos orgullosos de los estudiantes de las clases de Estudios Étnicos y de Estudios Afroamericanos Avanzados (AP) del Sr. Hartung, quienes organizaron una feria impactante para presentar sus investigaciones sobre temas fundamentales de justicia social y conflictos sociales, tales como el racismo, la esclavitud, los derechos de la mujer y la inmigración. Los estudiantes expusieron con pasión y reflexión sobre sus temas, así como sobre las perspectivas que adquirieron a través de sus investigaciones. Sus presentaciones reflejaron no solo un crecimiento académico, sino también empatía, pensamiento crítico y un profundo sentido de conciencia social. Estamos increíblemente orgullosos de nuestros estudiantes del Club de Oratoria y Debate, quienes han trabajado incansablemente durante todo el año para desarrollar sus habilidades y talentos. Aunque muchos de sus logros y reconocimientos en competiciones fuera de MP han pasado, en gran medida, desapercibidos para nuestro propio alumnado, esta exhibición les brindó una merecida oportunidad para brillar. También ofreció al resto de los estudiantes la oportunidad de comprender mejor el propósito, el rigor y el impacto del Club de Oratoria y Debate. Los participantes resultaron verdaderamente impresionantes: seguros de sí mismos, elocuentes y excepcionalmente aplomados en sus presentaciones. No tengo ninguna duda de que esta exhibición inspirará a aun más estudiantes a unirse al club y contribuirá a que este crezca de manera exponencial. Gracias, Sr. Hartung, por su incansable dedicación y compromiso para crear oportunidades tan significativas para nuestros estudiantes.

Nuestra promesa de preparación para la universidad y la vida profesional se hace realidad gracias al arduo trabajo, la perseverancia y la dedicación de nuestros estudiantes. La Noche de Honor de los Estudiantes de Último Año celebró a los alumnos que han alcanzado la excelencia mediante logros académicos sobresalientes, éxitos notables y becas que respaldarán sus proyectos futuros. El jueves, recibimos a nuestro superintendente y a su gabinete, quienes nos visitaron para presentar oficialmente al Sr. Paul Landshof como nuestro nuevo director. El Sr. Landshof se dirigió tanto al personal como a los estudiantes por primera vez, compartiendo su entusiasmo por unirse a la comunidad de MP y pasar a formar parte de la familia Cardinal. Como parte de esta cálida bienvenida, se le obsequió una camiseta de "MP PRIDE" para darle la bienvenida oficial como Cardinal. Nos entusiasman el liderazgo y la visión que aportarán a nuestra comunidad escolar. El Sr. Landshof asumirá oficialmente sus funciones el 1 de julio.

El jueves fue un día ajetreado que culminó con una divertida tradición de nuestra familia Cardinal: los botes de cinta adhesiva. Varias rondas de competición mostraron a los estudiantes el impacto del diseño en el mantenimiento de la flotabilidad y en la maximización de la velocidad en el agua. Felicitamos a todos nuestros estudiantes que participaron y agradecemos al Sr. Wou, quien cada día transmite a nuestros alumnos la alegría y la relevancia de la física en nuestras vidas. Nuestro último evento del año estuvo repleto de energía, espíritu escolar y celebración, ofreciendo una manera memorable de reconocer la increíble labor de nuestros líderes estudiantiles de la ASB. Las actividades fueron dinámicas y divertidas, uniendo a los estudiantes al más puro estilo de los Cardinales y creando una atmósfera de entusiasmo y orgullo. A lo largo del año, la ASB ha trabajado incansablemente para organizar eventos, fomentar el sentido de comunidad y crear experiencias significativas para nuestros estudiantes; este evento reflejó a la perfección su dedicación y creatividad. Al cerrar este capítulo, los estudiantes de la ASB de este año pasan con orgullo el relevo al próximo grupo de líderes estudiantiles, quienes darán continuidad a la tradición de servicio, liderazgo y espíritu escolar. Cerramos la semana con la "MP Spirit Block Party", una animada celebración repleta de comida, juegos, música y entretenimiento que unió a nuestra comunidad de manera divertida y memorable. Uno de los momentos más destacados del evento fue el concurso de imitadores de Jungkook, que rápidamente se convirtió en un emocionante desafío de baile entre nuestro propio Charlie Ta y un estudiante de James Lick. El público se mostró totalmente involucrado y entretenido, declarando finalmente un empate en la competencia, ya que ambos estudiantes ofrecieron actuaciones impresionantes. Eventos como este nos recuerdan la alegría, la creatividad y el espíritu escolar que hacen tan especial a nuestra comunidad, al tiempo que fortalecen el vínculo con una de nuestras escuelas hermanas. We have a mandatory lesson on respectful language on Thursday. To accommodate this important lesson, we have scheduled an additional Pride Day for Thursday, May 21st.

FINALS SCHEDULE

Seniors will have their final demonstrations of knowledge from May 26 to May 28 during their regularly scheduled days. Students in grades 9th to 11th will have their final demonstrations of knowledge from June 2 to June 4th, according to the schedule below.  Students with a 2-7 period schedule start their Monday at 11:00 pm, and students who do not have a 7th period can leave at the end of their 2nd-period final.

CARDINAL PRIDE

Sometimes, we all need a moment to pause, decompress, and recharge. Learning how to step back, reflect, and refocus is an important skill, especially during the stress and pressure that often come at the end of the school year. Mr. Wou created a wonderful opportunity for students to do just that by organizing a relaxing slime-making party. The activity provided students with a fun and calming space to connect with one another, unwind, and care for their well-being.

We are proud of our students for recognizing the importance of taking time for themselves, and we are deeply grateful to Mr. Wou for creating such a positive and supportive environment for them.

Mr. Wou also created an opportunity for the adults on campus to pause, decompress, and reconnect with one another. We left feeling relaxed, recharged, and uplifted by the camaraderie, laughter, and sense of community the activity gave us. Thank you, Mr. Wou, for creating such a meaningful opportunity for our staff community!

This week also marked our final Cafecito with the Principal of the year. Our parent community turned the gathering into a heartfelt baby shower for our PCIS, Nathaly Gutierrez, as she prepares to begin her maternity leave. Although Nathaly was impacted by this year’s staffing cuts, we are excited for her as she begins a new position with the District. We are deeply grateful for the care, support, and dedication she has shown our students and families throughout her time with us. We wish her all the best in this new chapter and cannot wait to meet her little one!

ORGULLO CARDENAL

A veces, todos necesitamos un momento para hacer una pausa, desconectarnos y recargar energías. Aprender a tomar distancia, reflexionar y reenfocarse es una habilidad importante, especialmente ante el estrés y la presión que a menudo surgen al final del año escolar. El Sr. Wou creó una oportunidad maravillosa para que los estudiantes hicieran precisamente eso, al organizar una relajante fiesta para hacer *slime*. Esta actividad brindó a los alumnos un espacio divertido y tranquilizador para conectar entre sí, relajarse y cuidar de su bienestar.

Estamos orgullosos de nuestros estudiantes por reconocer la importancia de dedicarse tiempo a sí mismos, y estamos profundamente agradecidos con el Sr. Wou por crear un entorno tan positivo y de apoyo para ellos.

El Sr. Wou también creó una oportunidad para que los adultos del campus hicieran una pausa, se desestresaran y reconectaran entre sí. Esta semana también marcó nuestro último «Cafecito con la Directora» del año. Nuestra comunidad de padres transformó la reunión en un emotivo *baby shower* para nuestra PCIS, Nathaly Gutiérrez, mientras se prepara para iniciar su permiso prenatal. Aunque Nathaly se vio afectada por los recortes de personal de este año, nos entusiasma mucho que comience un nuevo puesto en el Distrito. Dear Cardinals,

Let me begin by wishing a very Happy Mother’s Day to all of our Cardinal mothers. May your day be filled with joy, love, and the appreciation of family and friends who cherish all that you do.

The countdown to the end of the school year has officially begun, and for our seniors, this season is especially bittersweet. Each passing day brings them closer to graduation and to leaving the place they have called home for the past four years. While stepping into a new chapter of life is exciting and full of promise, saying goodbye to familiar faces, traditions, and memories can also be emotional. As we celebrate their accomplishments and look ahead to the future, let us also take a moment to be grateful for the community that has shaped and supported them along the way. Mt. Pleasant will always be a place they can return to with pride and fond memories because, as we proudly say, once a Cardinal, always a Cardinal.

CARDINAL PRIDE

We are incredibly proud of our teachers, Ms. Arroyo and Mr. Hartung, who recently traveled to Yale University to begin a year-long commitment dedicated to research, collaboration, and the development of an instructional unit that will strengthen and enrich their teaching practice. Their willingness to continue learning and growing as educators reflects the passion, professionalism, and dedication they bring to our students every day.  Congratulations to both!

With immense pride and gratitude, we celebrated two outstanding Cardinals as our Employees of the Year during a joyful ceremony honoring their dedication, hard work, and lasting impact on our school community. Mr. Jessie Fernandez, our Head Custodian, was selected as this year’s Classified Employee of the Year, a recognition that reflects not only his tireless work ethic, but also the care and pride he brings to our campus every single day. Ms. Genevieve Estrada, our MTSS TOSA, was named our Certificated Employee of the Year for her unwavering commitment to supporting students, staff, and families with compassion, leadership, and excellence. Congratulations to both, and thank you for the difference you make in our community each and every day!

We are proud of our students who had the opportunity to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Students analyzed the vital biological links among ocean zones and investigated how energy and nutrients move from the surface to the deep sea. By observing resident marine life, students identified remarkable survival adaptations, such as the unique camouflage of kelp forest inhabitants and the specialized structures of open-ocean species.  Thank you to Ms. Sandhu for organizing this experience for our students.  For additional photos of our young scientists in action, use  this link

We are also delighted by our students in the animation program, who had the wonderful opportunity to visit the San Francisco Zoo and draw inspiration directly from nature. Just as professional animators study movement, expression, and behavior from real life, our students observed animals up close to bring greater authenticity, creativity, and emotion to their own artistic work. Experiences like these bring learning to life beyond the classroom and give students a deeper appreciation of the dedication and observation that animation requires. We are thankful to Mr. Caces for organizing such a meaningful and enriching experience for our students.

We are incredibly proud of our Palomas, who delivered a breathtaking performance that celebrated the rich traditions and vibrant dances of Mexico's many regions. Their passion, talent, and countless hours of dedication shone in every step, every costume, and every smile on stage. More than a performance, it was a powerful celebration of culture, identity, and pride in their heritage. Watching our students honor their roots with such grace and joy filled us all with admiration and emotion. Thank you to Ms. Ortiz for her leadership of our wonderful students.

Estimadas familias,

Permítanme comenzar deseando un muy feliz Día de la Madre a todas nuestras madres cardenales. Que su día esté colmado de alegría, amor y del aprecio de familiares y amigos que valoran todo lo que hacen.

La cuenta regresiva para el final del año escolar ha comenzado oficialmente y, para nuestros estudiantes de último año, esta temporada resulta especialmente agridulce. Cada día que pasa los acerca más a su graduación y a dejar atrás el lugar al que han llamado hogar durante los últimos cuatro años. Si bien adentrarse en un nuevo capítulo de la vida es emocionante y está lleno de promesas, despedirse de rostros familiares, tradiciones y recuerdos también puede resultar emotivo. Al celebrar sus logros y mirar hacia el futuro, dediquemos también un momento a agradecer a la comunidad que los ha formado y apoyado a lo largo de este camino. Mt. Estamos orgullosos de nuestros estudiantes, quienes tuvieron la oportunidad de visitar el Acuario de Monterey. Los estudiantes analizaron los vínculos biológicos entre las zonas oceánicas e investigaron cómo se desplazan la energía y los nutrientes desde la superficie hacia las profundidades marinas. Al observar la vida marina, identificaron notables adaptaciones de supervivencia, tales como el singular camuflaje de los habitantes de los bosques de algas marinas y las estructuras especializadas de las especies de mar abierto. También nos sentimos encantados con nuestros estudiantes del programa de animación, quienes tuvieron la maravillosa oportunidad de visitar el Zoológico de San Francisco e inspirarse directamente en la naturaleza. Al igual que los animadores profesionales estudian el movimiento, la expresión y el comportamiento en la vida real, nuestros estudiantes observaron de cerca a los animales para aportar mayor autenticidad, creatividad y emoción a sus propias obras artísticas. Experiencias como estas permiten que el aprendizaje cobre vida más allá del aula y brindan a los estudiantes una apreciación más profunda de la dedicación y la observación que la animación exige. Agradecemos al Sr. Caces por organizar una experiencia tan significativa y enriquecedora para nuestros estudiantes.

Estamos increíblemente orgullosos de nuestras «Palomas», quienes ofrecieron una actuación impresionante que celebró las ricas tradiciones y las vibrantes danzas de las diversas regiones de México. Su pasión, talento e incontables horas de dedicación brillaron en cada paso, en cada vestuario y en cada sonrisa sobre el escenario. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE/ MENSAJE DE LA DIRECTORA - May 3, 2026

We are now just one month away from the end of the school year. When we account for finals week and for review week - commonly known as “Death Week”- we are left with only three weeks of instruction.  For students who have maintained a C average or higher, the road ahead seems manageable.  However, for students who are currently below a C average, this can be an especially stressful and challenging time.  Please know that our teachers are ready and willing to support every student.  This year, we intentionally embedded PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY Day and DETERMINATION Day into our calendar to provide students with dedicated time to reflect, seek assistance, and take ownership of their academic progress. This week marks our final DETERMINATION day of the school year, giving students one last structured opportunity to connect with teachers for additional support.  We strongly encourage all students to take advantage of this valuable opportunity.

CARDINAL PRIDE

We were proud to host the first-ever Assets Showcase – Battle of the Schools, a celebration of talent, opportunity, and community. Students and staff from James Lick, Andrew Hill, Overfelt, and Mt. Pleasant came together to highlight the incredible opportunities the Assets program provides at each campus while engaging in a spirited and friendly competition. More than just an event, it was a powerful reminder of what can happen when schools unite with pride, creativity, and purpose. The evening not only showcased the unique strengths of each school but also strengthened the bonds within our greater community and inspired all of us to continue creating opportunities for students to shine.

We are extremely proud of our MPHS Robotics team, which entered the US Berkeley Pioneers in Engineering competition for the second time. We are proud to announce Marlyne Escoto Flores, one of two students from East Side, as a recipient of the Rising STEM Champion Award for her outstanding STEM involvement & engagement. Our own Mr. Wou was also awarded the STEM Trailblazers of 2026 Award for his great leadership in bringing STEM forward opportunities to their school sites and being a great source of support for their students as mentors, role models, and allies. What a proud moment for our school!

We are gleaming with pride as we celebrate our students’ commitment to continuing their educational journeys on Decision Day. Thanks to the incredible efforts of our counseling team, students gathered during a joyful lunchtime ceremony to honor this important milestone. With excitement and hope for the future, students signed the wall and proudly celebrated the colleges, universities, and programs where they will continue pursuing their dreams. It was a beautiful reminder that every decision represents perseverance, growth, and the promise of new opportunities ahead.

Estimadas familias,

Ya nos encontramos a tan solo un mes de la finalización del año escolar. Si tomamos en cuenta la semana de exámenes finales y la de repaso, nos quedan únicamente tres semanas de clases. Para aquellos estudiantes que han mantenido un promedio de C o superior, el camino por delante parece manejable. Sin embargo, para los alumnos que actualmente se sitúan por debajo del promedio de C, este periodo puede resultar especialmente estresante y desafiante. Tengan la certeza de que nuestros maestros están listos y dispuestos a brindar apoyo a cada uno de los estudiantes. Este año, hemos incorporado intencionadamente el «Día de la Responsabilidad Personal» y el «Día de la Determinación» en nuestro calendario, con el fin de ofrecer a los alumnos un tiempo específico para reflexionar, buscar asistencia y asumir la responsabilidad de su propio progreso académico. Esta semana marca nuestro último «Día de la Determinación» del año escolar, que brinda a los estudiantes una última oportunidad estructurada para contactar con sus profesores y recibir apoyo adicional. Instamos encarecidamente a todos los estudiantes a aprovechar esta valiosa oportunidad.

Nos sentimos orgullosos de haber sido los anfitriones del primer evento comunitario *Assets Showcase – Battle of the Schools* (Muestra de Talentos de Assets: Batalla de Escuelas), una celebración del talento, las oportunidades y la comunidad. Estudiantes y personal de James Lick, Andrew Hill, Overfelt y Mt. Pleasant se unieron para destacar las increíbles oportunidades que el programa Assets ofrece en cada plantel, participando al mismo tiempo en una competencia animada y amistosa. Más que un simple evento, fue un poderoso recordatorio de lo que puede lograrse cuando las escuelas se unen con orgullo, creatividad y propósito. La velada no solo puso de manifiesto las fortalezas únicas de cada escuela, sino que también fortaleció los lazos de nuestra comunidad en general e inspiró a todos a seguir creando oportunidades para que los estudiantes puedan brillar.

Estamos sumamente orgullosos de nuestro equipo de robótica de MPHS, que participó por segunda vez en la competencia *Pioneers in Engineering* de la Universidad de Berkeley. El equipo que representó a MP este año obtuvo el Premio al Profesionalismo en Ingeniería por su proceso de resolución de problemas, su organización, su trabajo en equipo y su comunicación, dejando una impresión perdurable de resiliencia y crecimiento. Dear families,

This coming week marks the midpoint of the last grading period, which means teachers and students will pause to reflect on academic performance for the last time this academic year.  This is the last chance for all to improve their grades in all the classes.  These reflections have moved the needle in the right direction since we started doing them.  Remind your students to complete their reflection and to request time with any teacher of a class in which their performance needs improvement.  Let’s give it all before the year ends.

CARDINAL PRIDE

We are so proud of the Cardinal Band for representing MP with honor at their Concert Band competition in Vallejo last week. They placed 2nd and were honored with the overall Esprit de Corps award for their composure, grace, professionalism, and positive support of others. Kudos to Mr. Jenson for the opportunities he provides the band to shine in the community.  This year alone, the band has performed more than 20 times for the community!  They also had fun together at the Discovery Kingdom. Well deserved, students!

We were touched and gleeful to see our student, Brianna Procopio Bonilla, earn recognition and a scholarship at the Kiwanis Turnaround scholarship celebration.   She recognizes Ms. Cabrera, her counselor, who has worked tirelessly to support her through her 4 years of High School.

We are always proud when our students have the opportunity to see what colleges have to offer.  This week, we were particularly delighted to have our parents and students on a trip to San Jose State University, where they received important information about what SJSU offers.  We are very appreciative of Ms. Jennifer Gao from SVEF for organizing this trip and of Ms. Cuevas for accompanying our parents.  

Our students also had the opportunity to visit UC Berkeley, where they had a tour and panel presentations.  They also had a chance to visit some iconic places at UC Berkeley, such as Sather Gate, the campanile, and the University Library.  We are thankful for our DCAC advisor, Ms. Jennifer Chacon Duran, and our counselors for organizing the trip.

We are also proud of our students who took advantage of the opportunity to visit Stanford University and participate in panel discussions, science demonstrations, and a campus tour provided by the Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology (KIPAC) at Stanford.

The level of engagement among our students was truly incredible this week. Our Environmental Studies class drew the community's attention to the many ways we are negatively impacting the Earth. Mr. Dang used The Lorax, a Dr. Seuss character who speaks for the trees, in a creative project that combined art and civic awareness. Good job, students!

We are proud of our Interact Club students, who organized a blood drive for the community.  We appreciate Ms. Duhring, the club advisor, who mentors students and helps them organize these community events.

Our Coffees with the principal have become so much fun after we added crafts.  We have coffee, talk about what is happening at school, and work on a little craft.  This time, we made the cutest craft that could be a Mother’s Day present.  We have one more to go this year.  Come and join us next time.

ORGULLO CARDENAL

Estamos sumamente orgullosos de la Cardinal Band por representar a MP con honor en la competencia de bandas de concierto celebrada en Vallejo la semana pasada. Obtuvieron el segundo lugar y fueron distinguidos con el premio general al *Esprit de Corps* por su compostura, elegancia, profesionalismo y el apoyo positivo brindado a los demás. ¡Enhorabuena al Sr. Jenson por las oportunidades que ofrece a la banda para que brille en la comunidad! ¡Solo este año, la banda ha actuado más de 20 veces para la comunidad! También se divirtieron juntos en Discovery Kingdom. ¡Bien merecido, estudiantes!

Nos sentimos conmovidos y llenos de alegría al ver a nuestra estudiante, Brianna Procopio Bonilla, recibir un reconocimiento y una beca durante la celebración de las becas Kiwanis Turnaround. Ella reconoce a la Sra. Cabrera, su consejera, quien ha trabajado incansablemente para apoyarla a lo largo de sus cuatro años de escuela secundaria.

Esta semana, nos sentimos especialmente complacidos de haber acompañado a nuestros padres y estudiantes en una visita a la Universidad Estatal de San José (SJSU), donde recibieron información importante sobre la oferta académica de la institución. Agradecemos enormemente a la Sra. Jennifer Gao, de SVEF, por organizar esta visita, así como a la Sra. Cuevas por acompañar a nuestros padres.

Nuestros estudiantes también tuvieron la oportunidad de visitar la UC Berkeley, donde realizaron un recorrido y asistieron a presentaciones y paneles. Asimismo, tuvieron la oportunidad de visitar algunos lugares emblemáticos de la UC Berkeley, como la Entrada Sather, el campanario y la Biblioteca Universitaria. Agradecemos a nuestra asesora de DCAC, la Sra. Jennifer Chacón Durán, y a nuestros consejeros por organizar este viaje.

También estamos orgullosos de nuestros estudiantes, quienes aprovecharon la oportunidad de visitar la Universidad de Stanford y de participar en mesas redondas, demostraciones científicas y un recorrido por el campus, ofrecidos por el Instituto Kavli de Astrofísica de Partículas y Cosmología (KIPAC) de Stanford.

El nivel de participación de nuestros estudiantes fue verdaderamente increíble esta semana. Nuestra clase de Estudios Ambientales llamó la atención de la comunidad sobre las muchas formas en que impactamos negativamente la Tierra. El Sr. Dang utilizó a El Lorax —un personaje del Dr. Seuss que habla en nombre de los árboles— en un proyecto creativo que combinó el arte con la conciencia cívica. ¡Buen trabajo, estudiantes!

Estamos orgullosos de los estudiantes de nuestro Club Interact, quienes organizaron una campaña de donación de sangre para la comunidad. Agradecemos a la Sra. Duhring, asesora del club, quien guía a los estudiantes y los ayuda a organizar estos eventos comunitarios.

Nuestras sesiones de café con la directora se han vuelto muy divertidas desde que incorporamos manualidades. Tomamos café, conversamos sobre lo que sucede en la escuela y realizamos una pequeña manualidad. En esta ocasión, hicimos una manualidad adorable que podría servir de regalo para el Día de la Madre. Aún nos queda una sesión más este año. ¡Vengan y acompáñennos la próxima vez!

We are proud of our students in the Multimedia program who were recognized during the Pitch awards. The videos effectively promoted the Spartan Promise and were excellent, as were the District's CTE programs.  We are so thankful for Mr. Cavada, who has trained these students as competent professionals.  We know we will hear from these students in the future!

We are very proud of our LSU students who celebrated Stuvvy’s Quince with a great party.  Way to go muchachos and Ms. Arrollo, LSU’s fearless leader!

Estamos orgullosos de nuestros estudiantes del programa de Multimedia, quienes fueron reconocidos durante los Premios Pitch. Los dejo con las fotos de Viva Calle, un gran evento comunitario en el que todos los socios educativos de nuestra comunidad unieron fuerzas para ofrecer una «parada técnica» en el jardín delantero de Mt. Pleasant, ¡con juegos, música, comida y agua! ¡Repartimos más de 400 botellas de agua! ¡Fue fantástico ver a tantos estudiantes actuales, así como a exalumnos de nuestra escuela!

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE/ MENSAJE DE LA DIRECTORA - April 12, 2026

Dear families,

The final grading period of the academic year starts this week, signifying that we have only six more weeks of academic instruction left. These weeks are crucial, and students are strongly advised to put forth their best effort to demonstrate their knowledge in each course and secure the best possible grade. This is also a very busy time, with all sorts of end-of-year events.  Let me stress balance and focus.  Parents, please help your students figure out where they are and what their priorities should be so they can finish the year strong.

SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEK

Please note that 11th-grade students will be testing from Tuesday to Thursday. Brunch is open to all students, and 9th-grade and 10th-grade students should report to their first class after brunch. Seniors will report on Wednesday and Thursday for the Sex Ed class (unless parents have opted via email to Mr. Do). On Friday, 12th-grade students who did not take the CAST test the previous year will need to take the CAST make-up test. Test locations for each student have been published on the Freshman Quad.

Panorama is a survey we use to measure student, staff, and community perceptions about their school community, on equity and inclusion at our sites, and gauge the social-emotional and academic strengths and needs of our students, staff, and community. This data is used in the LCAP and on the CA Accountability Dashboard under local indicators, and by sites to reflect on their school communities.

We will offer summer school classes for recovery.  The application will be processed through the counseling office.  Please see the dates below to help you plan your summer.

June 22nd – July 17th (19 days)

July 3rd – No classes

-1st semester: June 22nd – July 2nd  

-2nd semester: July 6th – July 17th

POOL OPEN THIS SUMMER

We are delighted to offer this opportunity to the community this coming summer.  There will be a small entrance fee for community members to use it.  We are looking for lifeguards at the moment. Please contact me at rangela@esuhsd.org if you are interested in working.
