REGISTER FOR ENTREPRENEUR WORKSHOP SERIES.  The Entrepreneur Workshop series that has helped several local businesses launch successfully, will be offered again in May.  For a reduced fee of $40, participants will attend a series of 5 classes each Wednesday evening in May from 7 pm until 9 pm.  The classes will feature presentations from local banking, accounting, insurance, legal and marketing professionals.  This program is an ongoing partnership between SCORE and Macedon Public Library and is partially funded from aid given to the library by former NYS Senator, Michael Nozzolio. Act quickly to ensure your spot in the class.  The deadline to apply is Friday, April 20, 2018.

Mon. 4/2: 11:30 am Medicare Tips with Scot: Come to the library 30 minutes before the Senior Luncheon and find out valuable and useful information about Medicare.  This month, Scot will talk about the new medicare cards.

Mon. 4/2: 1 pm  Beyond Susan B. Anthony with Jack Kowiak  Many people in the Rochester area are familiar with Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Stanton, and Lucretia Mott in their fight for women’s rights and suffrage.  There were many other important women that significantly advanced the cause of women’s rights leading to the suffrage amendment.  We will learn more about the lives and contributions of some other key figures such as Mary Wollstonecraft, the Grimke sisters, and Alice Paul.  This presentation funded by Friends of Macedon Public Library.

Mon. 4/2: Noon  Lunch & Learn About Money for Primary Students  Financial educator, Karen Dean, from Reliant Community Federal Credit Union, will talk to children in kindergarten through grade two about saving, spending and donating money.  Through funding from Friends of Macedon Public Library, children will enjoy eating cheese pizza and drinking soda while they learn basic finance concepts.  Registration is required.  Class size is limited.

Tues. 4/3: Noon  Lunch & Learn About Money for Intermediate Students  Financial educator, Karen Dean, from Reliant Community Federal Credit Union, will talk to children in grades 3-5 about saving, spending and donating money.  Through funding from Friends of Macedon Public Library, children will enjoy eating cheese pizza and drinking soda while they learn about these basic finance concepts.  Registration is required. Class size is limited.

Tues. 4/3: 1 pm Lunch & Learn with Michael Sandel Bring your own bag lunch and listen to a lecture series called, “Justice: What’s the Right Thing to Do?”  by Harvard Professor, Michael Sandel.   When Sandel hosts political philosophy lectures in the US and England, he draws audiences of over 1,000 people.  His style is engaging because it is done in a Socratic style and inspires participants to carefully examine their closely held beliefs. Participants in the program can enjoy their lunch while watching a lecture.  Some discussion following the lecture will follow.

Wed. 4/4: 3 pm Watch and Experience Camera Obscura  Children in grades 4 through 8 are invited to watch a movie based on a popular children’s book that examines how our value goes far beyond our exterior appearances.  Following the movie, they will experience a life-size camera obscura and learn how this centuries old device works.

Thurs. 4/5: Noon  Lunch & Learn About Money for Middle School Students  Financial educator, Karen Dean, from Reliant Community Federal Credit Union, will talk to children in grades 6 through 8 about how a savings account is opened and how important it is to save money.  Through funding from Friends of Macedon Public Library, children will enjoy eating cheese pizza and drinking soda while they learn basic finance concepts.  Registration is required.  Class size is limited.

Thurs. 4/5: 2 pm Mahjong Play this ancient game of skill, luck and strategy.  All skill levels welcome!

Thurs. 4/5: Crafty Capers 6 pm  Register to make a beautiful craft for yourself or to give as a gift.  Registration and fee are required.  Call 986-5932 to reserve a spot in the class.

Fri. 4/6:  1 pm  Lunch & Learn About Money for High School Students and Adults  Financial educator, Karen Dean, from Reliant Community Federal Credit Union, will talk to teens in in high school and adults about making wise financial decisions in relationship to credit and debit cards.  Through funding from Friends of Macedon Public Library, all participants  will enjoy eating cheese pizza and drinking soda while they learn basic finance concepts.  Registration is required.  Class size is limited.

Fri. 4/6: 3:30 pm  Happy Hour  Welcome the weekend and unwind at the library!  Enjoy a Keurig beverage for only 50 cents.  

 

Sat. 4/7: 2:30 pm Spring Painting Party with Artist Steve Duprey: Discover how to paint a gorgeous spring landscape with local artist, Steve Duprey.  Steve will teach you how to do specific brushstrokes needed to design the painting. The strokes are basic and can be used to paint independently upon completion of the class.  All materials including the brushes, paint, pallet and canvas are included.  Registration is required as the class is limited to 10 people.  There is a materials fee of $20.  The Friends of Macedon Public Library have partially funded this class to make it more affordable for community members to attend.

Mon. 4/9: 6 pm Yellow Roses on Italian Tile  Paint yellow roses on an Italian tile to make a lovely home decor decoration for display on a plate stand, or use it as a trivet for spring and summer entertaining.  All supplies will be included.  There is a materials fee of $2.50 and registration is required as supplies are limited.  Must be at least 16 years old to attend.

Tues. 4/10: Noon Lunch & Learn with Michael Sandel Bring your own bag lunch and listen to a lecture series called, “Justice: What’s the Right Thing to Do?”  by Harvard Professor, Michael Sandel.  

Tues. 4/10: 5-7 pm  FREE Blood Pressure Clinic  Have your blood pressure checked in the Community Room  by a certified professional from the Macedon Town Ambulance.  Use the information in partnership with your doctor to make wise health decisions.

Wed. 4/11: 2 pm Iris Folding Join this group and make stunning cards for friends and family.  Bring pretty paper, cardstock, scissors, tape and glue. Current members of the group are always eager to teach beginners. The group meets in the teen corner of the library.

Wed. 4/11: 3 pm Movie & Activity Watch a family friendly movie.  Do an activity following the movie.  Public and homeschooled children in grades 3-5 welcome to attend.

Thurs. 4/12: 6-8 pm Wordpress: It’s More Than Just Blogging  Local technology trainer, Brent Walton, will teach participants how to create a WordPress website in just a couple of hours.  He will give tips on how to draw traffic to the site.  He will also explain how the site can be made useful across an array of devices such as: cell phones and tablets.  This class is highly recommended for anyone doing online business.  The class is funded by Friends of Macedon Public Library, so no fee is required to attend.  Class size is limited to fifteen people and a minimum of six people must register or the class will be canceled.

Fri. 4/13: 3:30 pm Happy Hour  Enjoy a Keurig beverage for only 50 cents.  Welcome the weekend and unwind at the library!

 

Fri. 4/13: 5-10 pm: Teen Lock-In  (age 13+) Have fun in the library after-hours with other teens doing teen directed activities such as: playing games, bashing B-movies, making munchies or just talking about stuff.  Must have reliable transportation available at 10 pm.

 

Sat. 4/14: 2 pm Puppy Tales  Children in grades K-5 are invited to read to a furry friend to develop confidence and fluency while reading aloud.  There is no registration required and several service dogs will be available.

Sat. 4/14: 2-3:30 pm  Maker Day!  Enjoy sewing a variety of simple items. Use the library’s sewing machines materials and other needed tools to make small items.  No need to register, this is a drop-in program for families to participate in together. Beginning sewers are encouraged to attend!

Thursday, Friday & Saturday: Friends of Macedon Public Library GIANT Book Sale  Find all sorts of gems to add to your personal book collection while supporting the high quality programming offered at Macedon Public Library. Books for all ages and in a wide assortment of genres are available at prices that cannot be beat.  The Friends pride themselves on their well-organized sale that is easily browsable by bibliophiles interested in particular authors, topics or genres.  The sale is open on Thursday from 10 am until 8 pm and on Friday and Saturday from 1 pm until 5 pm.  The final day will be a “Bag Sale”.  For the very best selection, plan on attending Thursday morning.

Monday, 4/30: 6-8 pm  

A Taste of Italic with Lisa Fox  Participants will learn some basic strokes with a broad nib marker in this 2 hour introduction to calligraphy.  There is no charge for this class but size is limited.  Please sign up for a small smattering of calligraphy technique. Multi-session classes may be opened if enough interest.
