Dear Parents/Carers,

Re: Parental Consent for Additional Google Services for Students Under 18

We are writing to inform you about an important change regarding students under 18 who use Google Workspace for Education at our school. Starting from March 2025, students under 18 will require parental consent to access certain additional Google services.

The core Google Workspace for Education tools such as Gmail, Google Classroom, Google Drive, and Docs will continue to be available without additional consent. However, the following optional Google services will require parental consent:

• Google Earth – For exploring geography and environmental studies.
• Google Groups – Used for collaboration and is essential for enabling access to Google Classroom.
• Google Maps – For interactive geography and history activities.
• Google Photos – For storing and sharing educational media.
• Google Translate – To support language learning.
• YouTube – For accessing educational videos and tutorials.

These services are widely used to enhance learning and collaboration in school.

What You Need to Do

If you consent to your child using these services, no action is needed, and your consent will be assumed.

If you do not consent, please complete the online Opt-Out Form by 28th February 2025 at the following link:
https://www.johnhenrynewmancatholiccollege.org.uk/parental-consent-for-additional-google-services/.

The form allows you to specify which of the services you do not want your child. If we do not receive a completed form by the deadline, we will assume your consent for your child to access all the additional services listed above.
