2018-2019 Improvement Plan -

  1. Plan-Goal w/data statement:  By the end of the 2018-2019 school year, Rivercrest High School will increase the graduation rate by 5%.  The current five year graduation rate is 80.9 and the five year rate is 87.16.
  2.  Do-Actions (s): 7-12 teacher will participate in professional development in differentiated instruction, Learning Targets and PLC’s.  
  3. Check-weekly plan: Teachers will meet in subject  level groups monthly  to review assessment and instructional data. Instruction and instructional grouping will be changed as needed.

Academics

Teachers will use lesson plans and curriculum mapping to help guide the instruction. Other factors: credit recovery, summer school, concurrent credit options, attendance monitoring, discipline, career coach and midterm and quarter grade checks by the counselor and principal. Students assigned to ILT, MILT, and SLT, to recover or make up work.  These changes will also be the focus of classroom observations.

Human Capital

Teachers will provide focused instruction to students and interventionists will assist with student deficits so that students can make adequate growth. The Leadership Team will meet monthly to assess data and make the changes needed for interventions. The school counselor will check grades at midterm and at the end of each quarter and inform the the principal who has a failing grade.  The principal will meet with students who have a failing grade at midterm and end of each quarter to assess what other interventions may be needed.

Student Support

Math Excel will be used to provide remediation for students who do score exceeding or ready on the ACT Aspire. ILT and MLT and the math interventionist will provide additional to support to students in need.

Stakeholder Communication & Family Engagement

Reading, Math, Science, History,  ACT Aspire test scores and assessment data will be shared with parents. Student Success Plans will be developed with parents to address areas where students scored basic or below basic.

District Operations & Fiscal Governance

Funding will be provided for needed professional development. Substitutes may be hired so that teachers may attend training.  

Facilities & Transportation

School vehicles will be utilized to transport teachers to necessary training.

  2.  Do-Actions (s): 7-12 teachers will participate in professional development in differentiated instruction, Learning Targets and PLC’s. The Leadership Team will analyze data and recommend interventions.  
  3. Check-quarterly & summative assessment plan: Teachers will meet in subject level groups monthly to review assessment and instructional data. Instruction and instructional grouping will be changed as needed.

English teachers will provide students with lessons that will increase their reading level. As students are formatively assessed, teachers will analyze data to determine student deficits and need for growth. Those areas will be addressed both with classroom instruction and small group interventions.

Student Support

Students will be provided with small group instruction focusing on deficit areas so that they may show adequate growth on the summative assessment (NWEA-ACT Aspire). Reading Focus: vocabulary, key ideas and details (central idea and theme, summarize, sequence, compare, identify causal relationships), Craft and Structure (word choice, text structures, purpose, point of view), Integration of Knowledge and Ideas (arguments, prior knowledge, text-to-text connections.

Stakeholder Communication & Family Engagement

Rivercrest High School will post current academic data. There will be a time set aside to make parents aware of their child’s current progress and discuss plans to ensure student success. Student growth data will be shared with parents at this time.

  3. Check-quarterly & summative assessment plan: Teachers will meet in subject  level groups monthly  to review assessment and instructional data. Instruction and instructional grouping will be changed as needed.

Math teachers will develop and use curriculum maps focused on state standards.  Lesson plans will reflect the implementation of a variety of teaching strategies to include the use of manipulatives and modeling.  Hands on learning will be emphasized, and IXL in 7th-8th grade and MathXL 10-12 grades will be utilized for additional support. Seventh and eighth grade teachers will implement Illustrative Mathematics. NWEA and ACT Aspire data will be used for assessment.

The district will support professional development in PLCs. Interventionists will also be used to assist students who have not reached a level of proficiency. The Leadership Team will also analyze data to see what other interventions may be used.

Facilities & Transportation

School vehicles will be utilized to transport teachers to necessary training. When needed, facilities will be made available for training to be held.

  3. Check quarterly & summative assessment plan: Teachers will meet in subject  level groups monthly  to review assessment and instructional data. Instruction and instructional grouping will be changed as needed.

NWEA and ACT Aspire data will be used for assessment(NWEA-Apex-alignment of assessed standards to to taught curriculum, Classworks and Interims) Strategies to support: vocabulary, key ideas & details, craft & structure, integration of knowledge & ideas. (highlighting, Venn diagrams, Frayer model, visual representation, semantic feature analysis, anchor charts, Cornell notes, graphic organizers, sound wall)
