Are there any fees associated with the band?

The Spartan Legion Marching Band has a $250/season fee. Winter Percussion and Winter Guard have a $300/season fee. These monies help cover the cost of transportation, music arranging, music copyright, uniforms, trucks, school instrument maintenance, staffing, uniforms, and show design.

Are there extra costs?

There is no fee to participate in any other ensemble, however, you may need to purchase equipment, concert attire, and maintenance needs (reeds, valve oil, drum sticks, etc.).

Honor Bands and Solo and Ensemble Festivals not facilitated by Doherty High School may have an audition and/or a participation fee.

Do I have to pay the entire fee at registration?

This is preferred but not mandatory. Payment plans are available, please communicate your specific needs with Mr. Sapienza.

Do the Doherty Bands take any trips?

We strive to travel nationally every three or four years. Information is provided up to two years before our anticipated travel date, so families may plan ahead financially to attend.

Do I have to audition to be in the band?

Students who want to be considered for a position with the Wind Symphony, Musical Pit Orchestra, or Jazz Ensemble may need to submit an audition, usually in the early part of the spring semester.

Percussion Ensemble students will audition for their Concert Ensemble placement (Concert Band or Wind Symphony) in the fall semester.

There is no audition required to participate in Concert Band, or the Spartan Legion! We want you involved with our band family!

Do I need to participate in a Concert Ensemble to be in the Spartan Legion Marching Band?

Yes. This is a requirement from the Colorado Bandmasters Association (CBA) and CHSAA.

Do I need to participate in a Concert Ensemble to be in the Jazz Ensemble?

Yes. We cover many fundamental techniques in Concert Ensembles that reinforce our jazz studies. We want every jazz student to be well rounded in all art-forms.
