 Consent Form: Exploration of Dominance and Muting in Student-Led Software Development Meetings 
 I. Who is conducting the study? Principal Investigator: Dr. Elisa Baniassad, Instructor I, 604-827-6336 Co-Investigator: Ms. Alice Campbell, Instructor, alicecam@cs.ubc.ca Graduate Student: Trish Varao-Sousa, tvaraosousa@psych.ubc.ca 
 II. Who is funding the study? This study is being funded by internal UBC grants including the Skylight grant from the UBC Science Centre for Teaching and Learning, and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Seed Project 
 III. Why are we doing this study? Research has shown that group dynamics has a large impact on individual performance, however many factors affect how well a group performs overall. This study aims to understand how student grades, success, and achievement of learning outcomes is affected by student engagement in software engineering teams. 
 IV. How is this study done? As part of your course assessment, your instructors already collect data on individual technical contributions, verbal contributions, and self-reflections. Our intention is to examine this course assessment data alongside demographic information such as gender, age, and language as determinants for team and individual success. Course instructors will not be made aware of which students have chosen to participate in the study. 
 V. Study results The main study findings will be published in academic journal articles, and discussed within the broader UBC community. Study results will be reported in an anonymized and aggregate fashion. 
 VI. Is there any way being in this study could be bad for you? There is no way participating in this study could be harmful to you. 
 VII. What are the benefits of participating? We do not think taking part in this study will help you. However, in the future, others may benefit from what we learn in this study. 
 VIII. How will your privacy be maintained? Data will be securely stored on encrypted computers and/or personal laptops and shared with each other using a FIPPA and PIPEDA compliant (federal government mandated) solution. Student numbers will be stripped and replaced with digit codes to track entries; your confidentiality will be respected and information that discloses your identity will not be released unless required by law.
