
Ambassadors
Ambassadors are vital volunteers who help group and support Destination Imagination (DI) teams across their local school district(s) and community. This role focuses on recruiting new Team Managers and providing resources and encouragement to help them succeed. Ambassadors connect with schools, community groups, and families to expand awareness of DI and ensure that teams have the adult leadership they need.
Although this is a volunteer position, it requires a significant investment of time and energy. Ambassadors are passionate advocates for creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving, and they are committed to helping students and families discover the benefits of DI.
Key Responsibilities
Recruiting and Outreach
- Promote DI within the local school district(s) and community.
- Actively recruit new Team Managers by reaching out to schools, parents, and community groups.
- Attend and present at school and community events (PTA/PTO meetings, Back-to-School nights, Family Information Nights, etc.).
- Establish or strengthen relationships with building contacts in schools and community organizations.
- Encourage team registration for the Spicy South Regional Tournament.
- Use regional databases of past participants and schools to identify new recruitment opportunities.
Team Manager Support
- Provide clear, accessible information about the Team Manager role, including responsibilities, expectations, and available resources.
- Connect prospective Team Managers to the Regional Director for training, materials, and ongoing guidance.
- Offer encouragement and follow-up communication to help new Team Managers feel confident in leading a team.
- Share available resources, such as scripts, guides, and templates, to simplify the Team Manager experience.
Ambassador Expectations
- Attend Ambassador Training (one 60-minute session, online or in person).
- Attend and give presentations at a minimum of five (5) recruiting/outreach events between August and December.
- Represent DI professionally and direct interested parties to the appropriate contacts (Regional Director, DI website, etc.)
Support Provided
Ambassadors receive extensive resources and guidance, including:
- Sample scripts, presentations, and promotional materials.
- Direct support from the Regional Director.
- Reimbursement for expenses such as materials, travel, and outreach costs.
Time Commitment
- 1 hour: Training.
- 3-6 hours: Outreach: At least five (5) events (30-60 minutes each), plus preparation and follow-up.
- 4-10 hours per month: Ongoing communication and recruitment efforts as needed throughout the season.
This is a volunteer leadership role with a meaningful impact– helping ensure students across the community have the opportunity to participate in DI by supporting and empowering the adults who make teams possible.
