COVID CATCH UP - 2020/21

As a result of the impact of COVID over recent months, additional funding has been allocated to schools to support the provision of additional strategies and resources to enable students to ‘catch up’ on education missed. The DfE guidance and EEF support guide have helped to support the decisions made regarding the allocation of this funding.  As such, Newminster Middle School has used this additional funding to support a range of measures in accordance with the following focus areas:

i) Teaching and whole school strategies

ii) Targeted approaches

iii) Wider strategies

Newminster Middle School funding allocation 2020/21: £41,520 (this equates to £80 per student)

Wider strategies

Purchase of additional ICT equipment (chrome book trolley, webcams, visualisers)

  • Chrome book trolley to support delivery of online learning and access to remote teaching and learning packages
  • Additional chromebooks purchased to support students working at home in light of delay in delivery of devices via DfE
  • Webcams and visualisers purchased to support delivery of live and online learning

All students had access to chromebooks, after assessing needs through knowledge of families and online survey. Students had equality of access with online lessons, form time, google classroom tasks, 1:1 support from staff and feedback

Y5 and Y6 parent information meetings (online)

  • Opportunity for new parents / carers to have remote ‘face to face’ meetings with class teachers
  • Cover costs to enable meetings to happen

PP 1:1 phone calls

  • Range of online personal development opportunities maintained throughout 2020/21, including:
  • Virtual school performance of the Lion King
  • Online creative challenges and activities
  • Online PE strategies
  • Charity events within bubbles
  • Health and wellbeing workshops KS2, e.g. healthy smoothies, art supporting anxiety, Thriving Minds self esteem, shelter building, etc
