News Release

August 20, 2018

In June 2018, EISD charged a special Building Committee to assess the outcome of the May 2018 bond election, to study the facility needs of EISD and to develop a long-range facility improvement plan.  On August 9th , the Building Committee made a recommendation to the Board (by a vote of 17 to 1) for a long-range building plan that includes the construction of a new high school.  On August 20th, the Board of Trustees approved calling for a bond election (by a of vote of 7 to 0) to be held on November 6th  in the amount of $38.6 million.  The bond election will allow the voters an opportunity to decide on the long-range facility improvement plan.

If approved by the voters, the bonds will be used to finance the following:

The Board considered adding an auditorium to the new High School. Weighing all factors, the Board ultimately decided to have an area planned into the new High School so that an auditorium could be added in the future.

The Board agreed that it is their intent to complete the baseball and softball turf installations that were also a part of the Building Committee’s recommendation.  In order to complete the long-range building plan, while keeping the bond election as small as possible, the source of funding for the turf was identified as a combination of some or all of the following: interest earnings on the construction fund while construction is being completed, potential additional state aid, potential savings on the construction cost of any of the projects, etc.

If approved by voters, the tax rate increase required to finance the projects will not exceed 30.5¢, using conservative estimates.  The average Eustace ISD homeowner can expect to pay $22.76 more in taxes per month.  There will be no tax increase above the frozen level on the homestead of taxpayers 65 years of age and older who have applied for and received the age 65 freeze.

Early Voting will occur from October 22nd to November 2nd and election day voting will take place on November 6th.

Additional information will be available on the Eustace ISD website at and any interested citizen with questions may contact the Eustace ISD Administration Office at 903-425-5299.
