Revelation, Interpretation, and Application

In this article we describe a simple framework for how a prophetic word is received and delivered.

Revelation

This is what is received from the Holy Spirit, whether as a picture, word, or otherwise. Very often revelation is symbolic, which means that what is received is not the literal message that should be declared.

Interpretation

After a revelation has been received, it is important to understand what God is communicating in the revelation. A picture of a flower might mean that a person is beautiful or that God is growing them, or some other meaning entirely.

Application

The last part is to know what to do with the prophetic word once it has been interpreted. Some prophetic words are just to encourage, so the application of the word is, “be encouraged.” Others will require some deeper work to apply fully.
