MEGA Newsletter - September 2018
Next Official Meeting is Sunday, September 9, 2018
Crooked Ewe Brewery & Ale House, South Bend
Tasting Styles: English Pale Family and Milds
Meeting Reminder - Consume Responsibly!
Just a reminder that the purpose of our club is to share ideas and homebrews with the goal of improving our own beers and advancing the hobby of homebrewing. During meetings, please make sure to serve yourselves the proper volume. Drinking plenty of water and consuming food (reminder that we can order food in the private room) will help.
We received some complaints after last meeting that some were over-served. Andy and the Crooked Ewe can’t have this and will be forced to ask us to take our meetings elsewhere if this continues to be a problem.
MEGA Barrel Project - Many MEGA members are working on participating in a third run of one of the 2 barrels that was sourced from Barton 1792. The other barrel was not in good enough condition for continued use. This barrel has been relocated to 3rd Horse Craft Beverage Supply. If you would like to participate in this run, which will be a Bruery’s Tart of Darkness clone, post in the forum on the website or bring it up in one of the upcoming meetings.
The Event Formerly Known as Mayfest - MEGA has a unique opportunity to take over the planning and logistics of the beer festival formerly known as Mayfest, then Mishawaka Festival of Beers. We need to make a decision on this soon to make plans for the 2019 festival.
Join the AHA - If you are a serious homebrewer and not yet a member of the American Homebrewers Association, you should consider becoming one! Add Your Homebrew Club to Your AHA Member Profile - If you are a member of the AHA, please add MEGA as your homebrew club. This will help the club with the rollout of the new club insurance premium reimbursement plan.
MEGA Work Shirts - MEGA ordered more of the popular MEGA Work Shirt! These shirts are great to wear at events or just to represent MEGA during your brew day. The work shirts are Dickies-branded short sleeve blended material (65% polyester/35% cotton, Moisture-Wicking). Color is charcoal with gold and white MEGA logo on left chest and large on Back. Shirts ar $35. Check with the club for available sizes.
MEGA Sample Glasses - MEGA received the sample glasses that were ordered. Those who already pre-ordered should get their glasses at the next few meetings and any remaining glasses will be available for members and sold at events. If you are interested in getting some sample glasses, speak up at a meeting or other MEGA event. They are $5.25 for members and $6.00 for non-members.
Learn to Homebrew Day
November 3, 3rd Horse Craft Beverage Supply, Time TBD
Learn to Homebrew Day (LTHD) was established by the American Homebrewers Association (AHA) in 1999 to encourage homebrewers to introduce their non-brewer friends and family to the most rewarding hobby, obsession and lifestyle since the beginning of time! The goal of LTHD is to teach our non-brewer friends the art of making beer at home.
