- Mrs. Cyr would like to showcase routines that students worked hard at learning.
- 1 adult had an issue that was resolved through conversation with principal and superintendent. Otherwise, most experiences were positive.
iReady Rally Fridays
- All are progress monitoring at all levels (teacher, admin, central) to ensure students are getting time to work with this instruction.
- Studies show that students are more successful in assessments when they use iReady.
Afterschool Program Updates
- ENL, ELA and Math programs for afterschool with an academic focus. Programs run 1 hour each, for a total of 2 hours on Wednesdays.
- CASA is working afterschool with 15 3rd graders.
- Ballroom Basics with Zoe has launched with 5th graders. We are partnering with PS/IS200 and will have a ballroom bash at the end of the program.
- Recap the Steelhawks Robotics Afterschool program.
- Agriculture Week Project (embedded during the day) will be presented by students from John Bowne High School.
- Programs in collaboration with high school students help student see how they can learn from peers that are sightly older than them. Exposure will also give them an idea of different career paths.
Attendance
- We are at 58% chronic absenteeism and have created a team to help reduce chronic absenteeism.
- We will start attendance incentives such as an attendance spirit week. There will be celebrations for whole class attendance such as parties, coding relays, physical education relays, etc.
PTA Updates
- Parent concern is asking if schools can talk to kids about hygiene. Parent was told that teachers do not do these lessons.
- These topics are done on an as-needs basis.
- If child or children are in need of support, staff will meet with students in need and discuss discreetly. If hygiene issues persist, it can be a case of ACS after speaking with family and reaching out to social worker.
- Clarification that the ACS agency is now preventative and trying to help families in need rather than opting to remove children from their home. A case worker is assigned to family to ensure the family is getting what they need.
- 18 boxes of chocolate fundraiser have been sold.
- Grade 5 parents are looking for updates. A few parents have hardship concerns for what is being charged for senior dues.
- PTA will start a popcorn fundraiser to help alleviate costs of senior activities.
- Administration will begin looking at the cost of other items such as trip, yearbook, cap and gown, etc.
- Last year’s cost was $120 and $10 of this amount went towards Grade 5 Dance.
- Parent request for a health and wellness fair at the school, after attending the district fair over the weekend.
- Reminder of school closing on 3/31
