Public Comment Registration:
To address the Board of Education (BOE), please register with our Board Clerk, Kathy Holmes, by filling out this Google Form or contacting the District Office at 785-733-2651 before 12:00 PM on the day of the board meeting.
A time for patron comment occurs at regularly scheduled Board of Education meetings to provide an opportunity for individuals to address the board regarding school district issues. Patrons interested in speaking must complete a request form that can be accessed on the district website.
When making your remarks:
• Please limit your remarks to three (3) minutes or less. The board president reserves the right to add time.
• Written comments and/or materials will be accepted and should be given to the clerk of the board for distribution. Please ensure there are at least eight
(8) copies for distribution.
• Complaints regarding students or staff should first be addressed to administration in accordance with board policy. If that procedure has been completed, the board will consider whether to hear such complaints in executive session in order to protect the privacy interests of the student(s) and/ or staff involved.
• If comments pertain to an item on that meeting’s agenda, the board president may ask the superintendent, or his or her designee, to address those comments at that time or when the item is up for board discussion.
• Generally, responses from board members during Public Comment will be limited to clarifying questions.
Additional Information:
The Board President holds the authority to recognize speakers, ensure the discussion remains orderly, and enforce the time constraints. He has the right to interrupt or terminate a presentation if it deviates from the established guidelines or violates Kansas law governing board meetings.
If prior actions suggest that an individual's participation could disrupt the meeting, the president may deny speaking privileges. If necessary, he can pause the meeting to consult with the board on whether to allow the speaker to continue.
The Board will not entertain personal attacks, disrespectful comments, or any statements containing vulgar or obscene language regarding school personnel or students. If you have a specific complaint about school personnel, please submit it in writing to Superintendent Dustin Wilson. For complaints involving the Superintendent, please direct them in writing to Board President Todd Wallace.
