Although David has only been a composer for four years his music has already been played in 17 countries to date and he was a Featured Composer at Galicia Graves Double Bass Competition (Spain) in 2017, having also composed the imposed work (Sahara for unaccompanied double bass) in 2015. He has transcribed more than 200 works for double bass, many published by Recital Music.
David Heyes studied at the Royal College of Music (London) and in Prague with Frantisek Posta. He has given recitals and masterclasses in 13 countries and has been a juror at a number of international competitions. He received a prestigious award from the David Walter Charitable Trust of New York for his pioneering work and has commissioned more than 500 works for double bass during his career. He has written for leading double bass publications and his series ‘A History of the Double Bass in 100 Pieces’ has been read by thousands of bassists around the world. Recital Music, founded in 1986 by David, now has the largest catalogue of double bass music in the world.
