Today is day 1

All freshman are welcome to attend Link Crew's Cocoa and Cram for an afternoon of tutoring, preparing for midterms and COCOA!  It will be held on Wednesday, January 15th from 2:30-3:30 in the Library.

Congratulations are in order to for John Jay's own FTC Robotics Team # 16700 JAYBOTS who, at their first competition of the season on Sunday, were awarded the 1st Place INSPIRE Award which earned them at spot at the Regional Championship Tournament at MVCC in early March! Great job done by all, and we are grateful for the support of the School District, the families involved, our coaches, and our Booster Club

Lunch & Learn

Students will have the opportunity to connect with members of our community and learn about different career paths through our Lunch & Learn Program. We will be highlighting the following organizations over the next few weeks:

Participants will be set up outside the cafeteria during all lunch periods (4-7) to answer any of your questions.

PICTURES WILL BE TAKEN ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 14 & WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 15, 2025, AFTER SCHOOL, BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 2:30 - 4 PM IN ROOM 153. Make sure you show up with your winning partner, a quote that goes with your superlative and any props you would like to use in the picture. If you don't show up, the superlative will be taken out of the book ... NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

ALL CLASS OFFICERS: Pictures will be taken for the class officer page in the yearbook on TUESDAY, JANUARY 14 & WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 15, 2025, after school between the hours of 2:30-4 PM in room 153.

SENIOR TWINS/TRIPLETS: The yearbook staff would like to spotlight you and your twin/triplet in the senior section of the yearbook.  Pictures will be taken on TUESDAY, JANUARY 14 & WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 15, 2025, after school between the hours of 2:30-4PM in room 153.

Donations of formal attire were made from our local community. There are prom dresses, shoes, suits, and other formal wear to choose from. Stop by room 239 during a free period to see if there is something you would like to take home.

Student Government: The 10th Annual Winter Carnival will be on Saturday February 22nd. All clubs and activities that would like to participate must submit a booth request form by the end of the day this Thursday January 9th. The form is available in the Student Government Google Classroom (Code: m7klfcn)

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS: If you stay after school for an activity, club or sport, you must have a bus pass from your advisor, teacher or coach to ride the late bus. You will not be allowed on the late bus without a pass.   The only reason any student should be on campus after 2:25 is if they are at a club meeting, activity or sport.

YEARBOOK: The 2025 John Jay Patriot Yearbook is now on sale. To order your yearbook go to: Jostens John Jay. If you order your yearbook before October 25, 2024 with personalization, you can get up to 4 free icons. In order to ensure that we can add as much content and make it more valuable, yearbooks will not be delivered in the Spring but will be shipped individually in August to your home. When ordering a yearbook, please make sure your home address is correct.

CLUBS & ACTIVITIES:

Science Research Club: The Science Research Club will meet again on Friday, January 17th, in Room 273. Join us if you're interested in conducting real scientific research alongside experienced mentors! We'll help you prepare projects for science fairs, including ISEF, and teach you how to write and submit research papers for publication in top journals. This is a great opportunity to connect with others who share your passion for science and dive into authentic research experiences.

SPORTS: Congratulations to Wappingers varsity gymnastics on their win against Scarsdale last night!

Congratulations to the John Jay Jr Varsity and Varsity Competitive cheer teams.  They competed at the Mahopac competition on Saturday.  Jr Varsity placed 2nd in the Class A JV division.  Varsity won the very competitive COED division.  The Game Day team also won as they continue to prepare for their national competition in 2 weeks.

Athletes of the Week 1/6/25 - 1/12/25

Priya Connelly, Track & Field - (12th grade) - Versatile performances - 2nd place at Sections in the 1500m Race Walk with a time of 9:49, solid performance in 300m and part of 3rd place 4x200m

Natalie Curatola, Bowling - Natalie finished 13th out of 43 during Saturday’s Destefano Tournament. Her high games of the day included 167, 179, and 187.

Soleil Kettle, Unified Bowling -  Seleil had a great first week of bowling.  Her positive attitude and great sportsmanship makes her a wonderful teammate.

Joe Lachowicz, Bowling - Joe finished 10th overall out of 74 during Saturday’s Destefano Tournament. His 6 game series included a 233, 223, and 222.

Michael Mauro, Wrestling - (11th Grade), Michael placed 6th at the Eastern States Tournament, arguably the toughest wrestling tournament in our region.

Matthew Partridge, Basketball - Senior guard, Matthew led the Patriots with 17 points on Thursday in the victory over RCK, including hitting 4 clutch free throws with under a minute to go to seal the win for the Patriots.  

Alex Raszkiewicz, Wappingers Swim - for breaking a minute in the 100 freestyle.

Charlee Quimby, Basketball - 10 points and 7 rebounds vs. RCK

Dylan Sturomski, Track & Field - (12th grade) -  4th at Leagues in the 600m with a tiem of 4:55, anchor on 3rd place 4x800m. 4:49 at Suffern in 1600m, and anchor for 3rd place 4 x 800m again. A 3 medal week.

The Wappingers Crew Club is holding pre-season practices for prospective novice athletes! Practices are open to anyone, regardless if you participated in the Fall Learn to Row program.

If you would like to participate, please fill out this Google Form. Practices will be Saturdays in January at the HRRA Boathouse in Poughkeepsie, from 11am-1pm. Registration costs $50. We will practice proper rowing technique in the tanks, and work on physical fitness on the erg machines. This program is excellent for anyone who is on the fence about joining WCC for our spring season, as you will get a glimpse of the sport. It is also a great opportunity to get to know your future teammates and coaches ahead of the beginning of the spring season in mid February.

Junior class Galentines Paint Party fundraiser

John Jay Baseball Booster Club is excited  to partner with Nothing Bundt Cakes this January.

We are selling Bundlets!!

Flavors include chocolate chocolate chip, red velvet, white chocolate, raspberry, lemon, confetti, classic vanilla, carrot, snickerdoodle, and strawberries and cream.  The cost is $8 each.
