Golf Etiquette

  • Do not walk between another player’s ball and the flag on the green.
  • Do not ground your club in a sand trap—grounding your club means touching the sand. This is a one-stroke penalty. Remember to rake footprints.
  • After raking sand trap, leave the rake parallel with the sand trap.
  • Do not pick up the flag until everyone is done putting.
  • There should be no more than two groups on a tee box.
  • Be at the course 15 minutes before your tee time and ready to go 5 minutes before your tee time.
  • Take care not to drag your feet on the greens.
  • Hitting someone else’s ball is a two stroke penalty. Look to make sure the ball you are hitting is yours.
  • Be aware of the time spent looking for a lost ball. It should not exceed three minutes. If all players agree that a ball has gone down a hole made by a burrowing animal, the player may have a free drop.
  • Relief from trees—a ball may be moved to “point of relief,” not closer to the hole, from any staked or painted trees. Improving the ball position from any other tree is a penalty.
  • Ground under repair: any new seedlings, sod or ground under construction shall be played as follows: the ball may be moved, no closer to the hole, without a penalty.
  • Man-made objects: A golfer is allowed relief from any man-made object, such as bridges, benches, ball washers, etc. Move no closer to the hole, without a penalty.
  • If you place your ball on someone else’s ball marker on the green and putt that ball, it is a two-stroke penalty.
  • Golf carts or pull carts should not be left in front of the green while putting. Park them to the side or back of the green. Then putt.
  • Play moves faster if you record your scores and put putters away at the next tee box. Be considerate of the golfers behind you.
  • No loud talking when someone in the group is going to hit the ball or putt.
