Statement Supporting Impeachment of President Donald J. Trump

Champaign, IL: Following the insurrection incited by President Trump at the U.S. Capitol, the College Democrats of Illinois released the following statement:

“The events we witnessed one week ago were extremely disturbing and antithetical to the principles of peace and freedom which stand at the core of American democracy. This riot, incited by President Donald Trump, sought to reverse the results of a lawfully conducted election and led to death and carnage. Let us be clear: President Trump has blood on his hands and must be held accountable for his despicable actions. Congress must send a message loud and clear that the President is not above the law.”

“For that reason, the College Democrats of Illinois strongly support the impeachment and conviction of President Donald Trump for incitement of insurrection. President Trump poses a clear and present danger to our Constitution and country. We urge Congress to take swift action to prevent further attacks against our democracy and establish a precedent of presidential accountability.”
