16U

LHP Ryan Klein (Ottawa City)

Confident strike thrower who can use his breaking ball in any count, uses positive hip tilt at the balance point to generate velocity, breaking ball has the potential for ping-pong-ball-like action, uses fastball sparingly. 2020 RHP Troy Leibert (Roc City Red Wings)

Started and pitched four innings. Touched 81, sat in the high 70s. His breaking ball always was around 70, but varied between a loopier curve motion and more horizontal slider motion. Liked throwing a frontdoor curveball to lefties. Demonstrated control of changeup as well; it moved straight down. At the plate, was pull happy. Top hand kept pulling off and hitting balls foul toward third base coach.

2019 Ben Bell (Roc City Red Wings)

Chokes up about an inch on the bat. Jumped on first pitch fastball, right-handed batter pulled through left side. Replicated the same swing a few innings later with another rip through the left side. Seemed to exhibit good bat control while choked up, consistently found barrel. Second day update: Threw a bullet from the leftfield line to get a kid at second on the fly.

2019 Drew Herrneckar (Roc City Red Wings)

Almost sitting down in his stance, knees a near-90 degree angle. Stance open as well. Hitting in heart of order, took what was given first time up to drive in a run on grounder to second. Showed a solid throwing arm at third base, although motions were a bit stiff.

2020 RHP Steven Kemp (Roc City Red Wings)

Pitched two innings in relief. Throws straight over the top. Fastball touches 74, averaged low 70s. Curveball a 10 mph difference on average, moved 10-to-4. Consistently spotted his fastball on the outside corner to right-handed batters.

2020 Matt Piccarreta (Roc City Red Wings)

Twice demonstrated great bat control. Right-handed batter, first time up was a hit and run. He found the vacated space on the right side for a base knock. Later on, got a fastball up and in, got the barrel to it, pulled it through the left side.

2020 SS Sammy Velletri (Roc City Red Wings)

Smooth motions at shortstop. Handled a chopper well, followed by sidearm toss to get a force at second. Lined a single into left field his first time, then had the best hit ball of his game later on when he ripped a sacrifice fly on a frozen rope to deep left. Second day update: Two hits, one on a curve that he went opposite field, the second a triple over the centerfielder. Very strong arm at shortstop, dealt with a bad hop that he knocked down before still throwing the runner out.

2020 2B Jack Vonahnen (Roc City Red Wings)

Runs well, it showed on the base paths and in the field. Made standout diving play up the middle; knocked the ball down with his glove, picked it up and fired to first without totally standing up first. At the plate, had a closed stance and a distinct hand waggle; nothing of note in his at bats.

2020 1B Josh Ferris (Roc City Red Wings)

A very smooth picker of the ball in the dirt at first. Works his glove through the ball really well and clean. Righty at the plate, big strong kid worked one at bat to 0-2 before lining a ball back through the middle. Found the barrel well all day.

2020 RHP Kyle Secor (Roc City Red Wings)

Started Saturday, worked between 70-76 on fastball. Showed a curveball and separate slider as well. Had a tight curve and good control of it. Used it as a frontdoor curve to good effect. Cruised through his outing.

2020 Collin Nelson (ROC City Red Wings)
Offensively - makes keen adjustments within an at-bat, short to the ball, quick hands with pop to the pull side, showed he can use all fields when he gets a pitch on the outer, not afraid to get off the knob with two strikes and does it without any loss of power. Defensively - clean footwork, sure glove, smooth and easy transfer.

2020 C Matt McHale (Southern Tier Power)

Loved to throw it around from behind the plate, attempting pickoffs at first and third numerous time. Strong arm, quick release, threw out one runner stealing at second. Moved well laterally to block a bunch of pitches in the dirt.

SS Zach Miles (Southern Tier Power)

Showed soft hands and a solid arm at short. Had a bit of a long windup before throwing on a ball to his backhand side, although arm strength made up for it. Soft touch on a flip to second for a force. At plate, stayed through a fastball away to single into rightfield. Moved to second on a ball in the dirt that he got a fast read on to advance easily.

RHP Caleb Clements (Southern Tier Power)

Starter threw from a ¾ arm slot, mostly utilizing a two-seam fastball that hovered around 70. Also had a loopy curve that hung around 56, he found it to be effective late on by bouncing it in the dirt for swings and misses. Struggled overall due to constant misses of his fastball outside to righties and in on lefties.

Austin Kieb (Southern Tier Power)

Sturdy left-handed batter, keeps hands inside the ball, makes consistent barrel contact, comfortable driving the ball to the middle third of the third, most comfortable taking the ball opposite, easily makes two-strike adjustments, understands how to use counter rotation between upper and lower torso to generate power.

2021 C Josh Armstrong (Team PAC 16U)

Quick out of stance behind plate on balls in front, led to one assist to first on a chopper down third base line. Clean mechanics and strong arm, caught one runner stealing and would have caught another if pick was made at the bag. Open stance at the plate, dropped hands on an inside fastball to rope one to left center but was robbed. Second day update: backpicked runners at both second and third base; threw a runner out trying to advance on a wild pitch. Throws consistently low to glove in good spot to tag. Keeps chest over ball well while blocking.

2020 SS Jared Drake (Team PAC 16U)

Simple stance, went opposite field for a double his first time and then stole third with a fantastic jump. Went up the middle later on to drive in a run, stole second, good speed. Fielded multiple choppers at short with quick feet. Feet came in handy on grounder off pitcher’s glove, he charged, gloved and threw sidearm in time for an out. Strong arm. Second day update: 72-73 fastball on mound. Curveball about 10 mph slower. High leg kick and hip turn. Pounds the outside corner. Fastball at times showed natural cutting motion.

2020 Jake Keller (Team PAC 16U)

Lefthanded batter kept hands back on full count curve to get hit up middle. Long strider, tall. Singled up the middle again later. Long strides, once moving, very fast and stole second easily. Bad mistake to be picked off third on a first-and-third play after the first hit. Second day update: Lefthanded batter crushed two balls Saturday. Drove in two runs with a double into the right center alley. Hit ball near fence in center for triple. On triple, long strides had him flying by time rounding second.

2020 Kenny Murphy (Team PAC 16U)

Came on in relief and hovered around 70-72. Missed up at times when his arm was behind the rest of his motion. Good baseball sense in infield, moved outfielders around on his own in directions balls ended up hit in. Turned on two fastballs for RBI hits. Runs well. Caught up with 80 mph fastball to single into right.

2019 3B Parker Mehigan (Team PAC 16U)

Saved a run on range to left at third base; Cut off shortstop, fired ¾ across to first. Left-handed bat, best contact came on lineout to right. Turned on a pitch later to drive in a run through the right side. Second day update: Right handed pitcher between 70-73. Always out of the stretch with a 90 degree leg kick. Curveball showed good drop. Pounded the strike zone.

2020 Nicholas Tanner (Team PAC 16U)

Pitched complete game, allowed one run. ¾ arm slot, fastball sat consistently 73. Curveball about 58, struggled with misses in, and even behind, righties. Found control of fastball at knees to cruise in second half of game. Fielded well on the mound, slid feet well to his right before taking time and throwing on to first for an out.

2020 David Russo (Team PAC 16U)

Showed good reactions at shortstop coming in on balls. Threw from a natural almost sidearm slot. Was accurate from short with that motion. Threw with same motion from centerfield and on mound. Touched 69 on mound.

C Alex Gaspar (Whitby Chiefs 16U Elite)

Batted leadoff, but didn’t show off any particular leadoff traits. Best blocker of the day behind the plate; consistently square shoulders to the pitcher, got chest over the ball, everything that hit him stopped right in front. Arm was inconsistent, arm path was too long to catch most runners.

CF Carson Sabo (Whitby Chiefs 16U Elite)

Robbed three hitters of hits in center; ranged to left center and dove for an out, sprinted in and beat the ball to the spot so no need to dive, then sprinted in again and dove forward for a third. Dropped a routine flyball later, then showed off strong arm on throw in air that almost got runner at third. Also two hits; lefthanded batter ripped one through right side, using wood, then a second in front of center with wood.

RHP Dustin Welker (Whitby Chiefs 16U Elite)

Threw from a complete sidearm slot every pitch; release point about even with his hip. Fastball touched 77 once, hung more consistently around 70. Curve was highly effective and controlled well, averaged about 57. Got multiple strikeouts on high fastball. Hitters were behind his fastball all night, deceptively quick via arm slot. As hitter, lefty batter found barrel consistently. Very crouched stance with lots of little body movements, but bat path ended up smooth.

RHP Morgan Darcey (Montgomery Marlins)

65-69 on fastball, very effective along with 11-5 motion curve. Tall and lanky, has body to grow into. Dominant at plate, fast hands allowed him to hit whatever wherever. Open stance, he starts upright and lowers as he swings. Didn’t seem to cause any issues as he was barreling up fastballs all day.

C Josh Howard (Montgomery Marlins)

Had a long throw path but everything else moved quickly in his motion to release the ball efficiently. Caught two runners stealing. Showed ability to adjust at plate. Lefty rolled over due to a loose top hand his first time up, but stayed through the ball to line a single into center his second time, strengthened the top hand.

Matthew Keane (Montgomery Marlins)

Maybe fastest player in age group, beat out two routine plays. Grounded to second base with no one on and beat nonchalant throw to first. Also beat out a one hop 5-4-3 potential double play.

Threw a runner out at third from near the right field line on the fly. Righty hitter turned on a double down the left field line. Can fly, one of day’s fastest.

3B/C AJ Seefeldt (AnJo Bombers)

Supreme talent, big character concern. Hit the ball hard all over the field. Threw runners out behind the plate. Ran well. Whined to both umpires about calls. Engaged with opposing fans in negative manner. Bragged out loud to no one in particular about a swing he took. Made all baseball actions look easy.

Pitching - uses positive hip tilt at the balance point to generate momentum, spots two-seam with late on the outside of the plate, effectively changes eye level and works both sides of the plate, opposing hitters struggled with sweeping curve that he is comfortable using in any count, limited arm action indicates there is much more left in the tank, as he develops confidence to extend arm he will add velocity. 14U

Showed quick feet at second base; made great sliding stop ranging up the middle before showing off strong arm to throw runner out at first. Bounced between 70-72 on mound with over the top motion. Curveball on occasion with good drop. Standout changeup, about 10 mph off fastball, straight drop. Doubled-up on it to get swinging strike two and looking strike three in one at bat.

C Isaiah Edmonds (GC Outlaws)

Clean mechanics and strong throwing arm. Chased down a wild pitch strike three and fired a strike to first for out. Moved well whenever blocking to his right. Moving left was choppier.

RHP/C Victor Gorman (GC Outlaws)

Sat 75-77 throughout his outing as a starter. Changeup came in around 68, curve between 62-64. His head/neck snapped on his curve; didn’t seem to affect his control but a questionable mechanic. Fielded well off the mound. Showed an ability to throw his curveball in full counts. Impressive rhythm.

RHP/3B Roman Kimball (GC Outlaws)

Hit rope line drives on multiple occasions, got unlucky hitting them right to outfielders. Consistent barrel on compact, strong swing at plate. Impressive arm at third, especially going to backhand side. Came on in relief, throwing 76-77 with late life. Appeared to be high spin rate, lots of swings and misses. LHP/RF Tyler Kennedy (West Seneca 14U)

Started and sat about 73 all game. Curveball was a near-slurve, but tight enough break to make it work. Natural tail on fastball. Motion was very herky-jerky. Felt rushed, especially out of the stretch, but his arm was on time almost all game, didn’t battle the control issues one might expect.

SS Jairo Santos (West Seneca 14U)

Very strong arm at shortstop. Showed instincts to take a ball himself to roll a 6-3 double play. At plate, righty with an open stance. His bat head seemed to start in inconsistent positions from pitch to pitch. Came through with a clutch, run-scoring single on a pull through the hole, then as tying run stole second. Can absolutely fly.

SS James Musso (Syracuse Jr. Chiefs)

Open stance as a righty at the plate, made lots of hard contact, all intentionally up the middle or the other way. Was not late, drove a two-seam fastball off the plate into the right center gap for a triple. Good range up the middle, made one difficult field and throw on the run up the middle for an out. Smooth and easy transfer to throwing hand. In a brief cameo on the mound, hovered around 70.

1B/RHP Ryan Birchard (Syracuse Jr. Chiefs)

Big, athletic frame. Lefty hitter with an open stance, had consistent hand waggle as effective timing mechanism. Showed power to left center. Smooth, simple mechanics on the mound, worked 79 in relief with his curve at 66.

Nate Boughton (Syracuse Jr. Chiefs)

As a righty at the plate, smacked the ball hard up the middle. Almost took the pitcher’s glove off on one that still made it into centerfield. Started with a slightly open stance, no batting gloves and a flat bat position.

RHP Aiden Berson (Syracuse Jr. Chiefs)

Tall righthander tried to manufacture extra torque with an extreme hip turn in his windup. Velocity fluctuated between 68-75 on what all appeared to be fastballs. Displayed a loopy curveball. Came over the top, fastball with no natural run, rather straight.

RHP Maddox Garvey (Syracuse Jr. Chiefs)
Consistent strike thrower out of a low ¾ slot, shows a 12-to-6 breaking ball for an out pitch on either side of the plate, mixes that with a tight slider that falls away from right-handed batters and runs in on hitters from the left side, uses fastball sparingly and intelligently, consistently induces weak contact.

Pitching - clean mechanics with loose arm action, two-seam has run which kept batters off-balance, can throw breaking ball on either side of the plate for strikes. Defensively - impressive play in right field, gets good jump on the ball, knows how to set up for catch and throw, aggressive path with a strong and accurate arm.

2022 Preston Prince (Cougars)
