Studio Ijeoma: Studio Manager
Poetic Justice Group is the lab of Ekene Ijeoma, an artist, designer, researcher, and educator who lives and works between his studio in Brooklyn, NY, and his lab, Poetic Justice Group, at MIT in Cambridge, MA. He researches how social and political systems unjustly affect people and develops large-scale participatory, interactive, and data-driven installations, sculptures, performances, websites, and apps that poetically expose their inequalities or engage people in collaboratively changing them. Through his lab, he researches how art can scale to that of structural injustice by developing large-scale phone, web, and street-based works that are public, community-driven, multisite, and networked.
He’s looking for a studio manager to work at least 3 days a week managing his studio at large and production of artworks and exhibitions. Currently, the studio is working remotely, but the studio manager would need to be in NYC, preferably in Brooklyn.
Roles and responsibilities of the Studio Manager include managing:
-the studio at-large; daily operations and administration
-projects using Google Sheets; creating short and long-term goals and tasks
-assistants; assigning and reviewing/approving daily, weekly, and monthly goals and tasks; developing new guidelines and workflows as needed; hiring and training new assistants
-calendar, scheduling, and attending meetings
-proposals for commissions and RFPs; researching and developing descriptions, budgets, timelines, etc
-grants, fellowships, residencies, etc.; finding and applying for them
-agreements, e.g., for projects and exhibitions
-websites
-digital and physical archives
-shipping, receiving, moving, and storage
Requirements include:
-Art, design, or architecture-related degree
-At least 4 years of experience working with artists, galleries, museums, or non-profits
-Experience producing public, community-driven, or computer-generated/technology-based artworks
-Knowledge of Google Workspace (especially Docs, Sheets, and Slides) and Adobe Suite (especially Photoshop) and preferably 3d software
