COVID-19 UPDATES FROM THE FOOD BANK OF WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS

Visit this website for updates to services provided by the Food Bank and their member agencies. Not all food pantries and meal sites are members of the Food Bank, but many are.

MEALS

CHARLEMONT

Good Neighbors Food Pantry will hold drive-thru distributions of food every other Tuesday, including Tuesday April 28, May 5th, and onward. From 4:30 - 6 pm, families receive pre-bagged items directly to their car. Call (413) 339-4294 for more information.

2nd Helpings Meal

The Episcopal Church of Saints James and Andrew, 8 Church St., Greenfield

Mondays, 4:30-5:30pm  will be giving hot meals to-go from a takeaway window in the Whiteman Room, accessible from the church's parking lot.

If you normally dine at one of these locations, please contact the COA for information on other meal offerings.

GREENFIELD AND SHELBURNE FALLS

Center for Self-Reliance Food Pantries

Beginning Monday March 30th, we will be moving our Greenfield pantry operations temporarily to the Federal Street Elementary School on 125 Federal St.  Our operating hours will continue to be every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 11 am to 4 pm.  

We have premade bags of groceries, dairy, meat and produce items available for curbside pick up in the front of the school.  In addition, we have diapers available for young families with diaper needs.  If you are unable to get to us, please call us at (413) 773-5029 to see how we can help.

West County Emergency Food Pantry, 51 Maple St., Shelburne Falls: 2nd 3rd and 4th Wednesdays, 11am to 4pm

Premade bags of groceries, produce, dairy and meat available for outdoor distribution in the back of Cowell Gym.  Participants welcome to come every week for fresh produce.  Diapers available for little ones.  Can’t get to us?  Call us!  New participants welcomed!  Reach us at (413) 773-5029 ext 2.

People are welcome to drive up the first base side of Beacon Field with their trunks open so volunteers can safely load bags of food. The volunteers will ask people how many bags they need and the effort will operate on an honor system. MONTAGUE (Turners Falls)

The Franklin Area Survival Center’s Food Pantry at 96 4th Street in Turners Falls is open from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.. Call for updates: 413-863-9549.

The Western MA Recovery Learning Community (Wildflower Alliance) is opening a basic needs station at The Brick House, 24 3rd St, in Turners Falls on Tuesdays  and Thursdays 12-3pm. People can come be warm, get food, phones, narcan, and other essentials. They also are welcome to use the bathroom&shower, and get support. Donations welcome. Stop by or contact AJ: 413-824-8398.

NORTHFIELD

Franklin Area Survival Center is still open as a food pantry. Hours are Monday to Friday,  10am-1:30pm at 96 4th St in Turners Falls. They have relaxed the guidelines for documentation/verification, making it easier to access right now.

MONTHLY MOBILE FOOD BANK FOOD DISTRIBUTION

Some Monthly Mobile Fook Banks have resumed. For updated information, visit https://www.foodbankwma.org/get-help/mobile-food-bank/ 

There are no eligibility requirements to receive food from our Mobile Food Bank. Anyone in need of assistance can attend.

Greenfield Mobile Food Bank at Oak Courts takes place on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, 1:30-2:30pm. In May, that will be May 13.
Turners Falls Mobile Food Bank takes place in the parking lot of the Gill-Montague Senior Center (62 5th St.) on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, 1:30-2:30pm. In May, that will be May 20.

GOOD NEWS! The MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has made a provision allowing caretakers to pick up meals for children. Adults who pick up meals for children will be asked where the children go to school. (If the children don't attend school, just say so.) 

School meals are typically distributed on weekdays. Some districts in our area have adopted a Monday-Wednesday-Friday distribution schedule. (They give out several days’ worth of meals to each child each day.)

GREENFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS distributes meals in Greenfield, at Newton Elementary School, Greenfield Middle School, Greenfield High School, Oak Courts, Leyden Woods, Greenfield Gardens, Fosters’ Supermarket parking lot, and the Franklin County Fairgrounds from 11am-12:30pm, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Bagged lunches and bagged breakfasts will be provided according to the following schedule:

Monday: Monday & Tuesday lunch, Tuesday & Wednesday breakfast
Wednesday: Wednesday & Thursday’s lunch, Thursday & Friday breakfast
Friday: Friday, Saturday & Sunday lunch, Saturday, Sunday & Monday breakfast

GILL-MONTAGUE REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT distributes meals in Montague, Turners Falls, and Gill.
Pick up meals on MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, and FRIDAY. Bagged lunches and bagged breakfasts are distributed according to the following schedule:

Monday: Monday & Tuesday lunch, Tuesday & Wednesday breakfast
Wednesday: Wednesday & Thursday’s lunch, Thursday & Friday’s breakfast
Friday: Friday, Saturday & Sunday lunch, Saturday, Sunday & Monday breakfast

CHANGES starting May 4th:

1. Erving is covering the sites in Erving (Erving Center and Vets' Field) that were previously served by GMRSD - on the same schedule.

2. Service time for Gill (Four Rivers School, Riverside) has changed to 1:10-1:30pm

FRONTIER REGIONAL UNION #38 SCHOOL DISTRICT is offering Grab & Go Breakfast and Lunch Bags for pick up at our District Schools.  Food will be available for all children 18 years of age and younger.  Please notify your town’s school in advance if you are interested, so the correct amount of meals can be prepared by our staff.

ORANGE/PETERSHAM/WENDELL/NEW SALEM

Bagged lunches will be available to the students of Orange, Petersham, Wendell and New Salem for pickup at Fisher Hill School and RC Mahar pick up on Mondays and Thursdays from 11:00-12:00 p.m. Monday you will receive food for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. On Thursday you will receive food for Thursday, Friday and weekend. Drive through pick up provided. Thanks to some incredible volunteers, we will be offering delivery to those who cannot make it to the schools. If you do not have internet access, you can call (978) 575-4202 at 10:30 a.m. each day to request a delivery.
