Gear Needs

Driving/Driver Page - see tab drop down under Grab Bag

As you know, this intensive was posted with driving participation requested. The driver’s link is above, and also at the top of the Driver’s page. Please be careful not to edit anyone else’s time.

The driving schedule is posted under the driver’s tab as a drop down from the main Grab Bag page. If you have more flexible times, this may help see where there is a greater need.

Driver paperwork is found BOTH on the Driver’s Page at the top, as well as in the blue permission form box.

Drivers need to provide Dannielle a copy of current

  1. Vehicle registration
  2. AK Driver’s License
  3. Proof of current Insurance with amounts 100,000 / 300,000 bodily injury and 25,000 property damage.

Also, all drivers are subject to a background check that requires 24 hour turn-around time for Dannielle, so please submit your names to the Driver’s list, particularly for the first week, as soon as possible.

Chaperones

I open the intensive to parents anytime. All are welcome to accompany us.

I do, however, need at least one chaperone and hopefully more for:

  1. Northface hike (8/22)
  2. biking day (8/28), at least two please :)
  3. paddleboarding (8/27)
  4. Eklutna camping and hiking trip (8/29-30, overnight)

Please consider joining us! If for some reason you can chaperone but cannot drive students, please sign up on the Driver’s Sign-Up page and notate that you are only chaperoning. Thank You.

Grades

Students all come to this intensive with different interests and skill levels. The thought is to expose students to things they might like and encourage them to give a sincere effort - a student may have some experience or none at all; both are perfectly great. My sincere hope is that we all have fun together!

Students grades are based on the following things

  1. Attendance and being on-time to school
  1. First absence, grace. Every absence after that is a drop in letter grade
  2. Timely arrival to school is critical as I make up driver’s lists in advance and we leave the building early every day in the morning
  3. Families, please let me know by email or phone if your child is out for the day, that way we know not to wait past our departure time for that student
  1. Behavior
  1. Positive attitude
  2. Cooperation
  3. Good use of judgement
  4. Good listening skills
  5. Follow my directions and the directions of the people who are working with us
  6. Represent Polaris with honor and integrity

Families, please remember:

When I take students off campus, they represent me, Polaris, and ASD. We work with professionals and local volunteers in our community and I have the highest expectations for student behavior in that regard. If a student cannot demonstrate an understanding of this philosophy, I will, sadly, need to exit that student from the intensive.

Intensive Fee

Please pay your intensive fee prior to the first day of school!  I try to pay our professionals in the community as promptly as possible, as well as purchase other supplies we need.

Angela has secured your ability to pay through Parent Connect. So, you can now go on-line to Parent Connect and pay the fee, or just go into school and remit payment to Angela.

Thank You!

Note: All costs for this intensive are connected. Professionals are not secured on individual costs; therefore, should a student leave the intensive or be absent for particular days, unfortunately, a refund is not available.

Medical Needs

ALL medications MUST go through Nurse Patty, AND have written permission to be administered by me. Even applying Neosporin on a scrape.

Nurse Patty will provide me with any regular meds normally give during the day, and we review each child’s needs carefully prior to field trips.

Also as usual, I will carry a basic first aid kit with bandaids and such. I’ll also carry topical benadryl, hydrocortisone, Neosporin for minor cuts and scrapes. And I’ll have Tums, aspirin, Tylenol, and Advil as needed for those students whose families approve my administration of those things while out in the field on an as needed basis. These also require a form, signed by you, and this also must be checked over by Nurse Patty. That form is above, along with the other paperwork necessary for this intensive.

.

If your child has an allergy or can’t take certain OTC meds, please write that clearly on the form so that I may take note of it; and while I assume full responsibility for administering medications, please also make sure to remind your child so there is every chance of ensuring that only correct meds get administered.

Eklutna!

Our Eklutna overnight trip will be on the 29th/30th, the last Thursday and Friday of the intensive. We will be going over food (including allergies and preferences), gear, and fun after we get our intensive rolling. Please keep an eye out for an email from me regarding the details of the trip. I’ll update this section as well.

***However, please do sign up to drive and join us as a chaperone! The link to the driver sign-up is posted with the permission forms above.
