As Senior Thermal/Mechanical Engineer at Overview Energy, you will apply your knowledge, leadership, and creativity to help design and build our constellation of next-generation satellites at unprecedented affordability and scale. You will be involved in nearly every aspect of our system’s engineering, from initial trade studies, analysis, and modeling, to prototyping and testing, and eventually through in-orbit performance assessment and system iteration.

Responsibilities:

• Take ownership of the trade, design, build, and test cycle for the mechanical and thermal characteristics of Overview Energy’s first spacecraft system, especially its deployment systems and integrated heat pipes and radiators.
• Propose novel modifications to existing space-ready designs for our unusual operating regime.
• Tightly iterate for reliability, manufacturability, reduced mass, and system cost. You will help build the most economical spacecraft ever flown to GEO, at unprecedented scale.
• Collaborate with and enable other team members on their designs and builds.

Qualifications:

• You’ve worked with spacecraft mechanical systems and structures, including deployables and mechanisms.
• You have experience doing radiatively coupled spacecraft thermal modeling, ideally for both LEO and GEO, and ideally including satellite insulation, thermal management, radiators, and heat pipes.
• You have extensive hands-on experience. You’re equally comfortable in CAD/FEA and turning a screwdriver. You’ve built and tested multiple spacecraft systems.
• You have experience designing for both the launch environment and the space environment.
• You’ve experienced all stages of the design-analysis cycle, designing a system for specific thermal / mechanical requirements, simulating and testing (thermal vac, vibe, thermal shock), analyzing, and iterating.
• Python and, optionally, MATLAB experience.
• Strong organizational and written/oral communication skills. You’re a critical thinker and are detail oriented, able to self-manage without letting things slip through.
• You bring technical excellence to everything you do.
