What can I expect from Maho Magic Bar?
Maho Magic Bar is a performance/show and a bar. It is inspired by the magic bars in Japan’s nightlife districts. Magicians perform close-up magic at your bar table, while you can enjoy delicious drinks. The show contains adult concepts, simulated violence, slapstick, haze, low-level lighting and a lot of fun.
Where is the experience located?
The event will take place at Maho Magic Bar’s bespoke venue at 19 Celestial Avenue, Chinatown, Melbourne. Celestial Avenue is located off Little Bourke Street, in the heart of Melbourne’s Chinatown, between Swanston Street and Russell Street.
How long does the experience last?
60 minutes.
Does the experience take place in an indoor or outdoor venue?
The show will be held inside a beautiful custom built neon venue.
Is there air conditioning?
Yes, Maho Magic Bar is air conditioned.
Will food and beverage be available on site for purchase?
Maho Magic Bar features Japanese cocktails, sake, shochu, beer and wine. There are also mocktails available. You can view the menu here. For any allergy related questions please contact us. Food is not available to purchase, but there are Japanese snacks available for purchase at Maho Mini Bar, the pop-up bar outside of Maho Magic Bar.
Is there parking available?
The closet parking is directly beside the venue at the Golden Square carpark. After parking your car, please exit the car park on foot at the Little Bourke Street end and walk around to Celestial Avenue. If you have specific access needs please use the entrance at 217 Lonsdale Street and contact us at hello@broadencounters.com in advance so that we may be able to provide the best directions.
Is the parking free?
Paid parking is available at multiple locations in the Chinatown precinct.
TICKETS
Where can I get tickets?
Can I purchase tickets at the door?
Sometimes tickets are available to purchase at the door. Maho Magic Bar has a strictly limited capacity, and we recommend booking ahead to avoid disappointment.
Can I transfer my tickets to another person?
Yes, you can transfer your tickets to anyone for free. It is as easy as clicking "Transfer Tickets" on your ticket on the Fever App. Please contact us for additional help. Make sure to include your ticket order number.
Do I need to print my ticket?
No, your contactless tickets will be validated directly in the Fever App.
I can't find my ticket. What can I do?
You can find your ticket with the QR code in the Fever app, within the Tickets section. If you don't have it installed, you can download it from the Apple Store or Google Play. Remember to log in using the same account that you used when buying the tickets. If you still cannot find your ticket, please contact us.
Are refunds allowed? What is the exchange policy?
Subject to availability, changes of date and/or time are permitted up to 48 hours before the start time of your experience. In such a case, please contact us indicating your ticket ID. Refunds are not allowed under any circumstances. For more information, you can refer to our T&Cs.
Can I make a Group Booking?
If you would like to book for a group, please contact us to get in touch with your preferred attendance date and the size of your group.
ACCESS
Do I need to arrive at the start of my scheduled session?
We ask that you arrive 20 minutes before the start of your show to allow you enough time to settle in to the night. There is a great outside foyer bar, Maho Mini Bar, and snacks available for purchase on site. Seating is allocated on a first-come basis on arrival by our front of house team.
What happens if I arrive late?
Latecomers will be admitted at an appropriate time at the discretion of the front of house staff.
Can I bring animals? Are service dogs allowed?
Service dogs are allowed at Maho Magic Bar. No other animals are allowed.
Is the venue accessible?
Maho Magic Bar is accessible and can accommodate wheelchairs. If you have accessibility needs please contact us so that we may provide specific advice on the best entrance and any other needs.
Are wheelchairs available to rent?
Maho Magic Bar does not have wheelchairs available to rent.
Steps to follow accessibility requests and how many time in advance users need to contact us?
If you have specific access requirements we ask that you get in touch with us in advance by emailing hello@broadencounters.com. All seats are at bar stool height, with the exception of standard table and seating height on Table 6. See our seating map here. Please advise us via email if you have access needs that require seating at Table 6. We will also provide you with the best advice for entering and exiting the area and answer any other questions relating to specific accessibility needs.
What are the prohibited items at the experience? Can I smoke or vape?
Smoking and vaping is prohibited. You may not bring in outside food and drink.
Do we have carer tickets?
Companion cards are accepted at Maho Magic Bar. Please email hello@broadencounters.com with a photo of the companion card and your preferred session time.
Is the experience accessible for deaf people?
The experience is highly visual and is broadly suitable for deaf people. However, you may bring an interpreter with you to enhance the experience. Please contact hello@broadencounters.com for more information and to make these arrangements for an interpreter.
What accessibility options do we have for someone visually impaired?
While the show is highly visual, Maho Magic Bar is a very interactive show, and many aspects are suitable for someone with visual impairments. However, you may choose to attend with an interpreter. Please contact hello@broadencounters.com for more information and to make these arrangements for an interpreter.
Will there be strobe lights?
There are low-level strobe effects for a short moment and low-level lighting in Maho Magic Bar. You are able to be warned by our staff and step out during these moments. Please email hello@broadencounters.com to make these arrangements.
Are there chairs available? Can I be seated during the experience/exhibition?
Maho Magic Bar is a seated experience. All seats are at bar stool height, with the exception of standard table and seating height on Table 6. See our seating map here. Please advise us via email at hello@broadencounters.com if you have access needs that require seating at Table 6.
Will restrooms be available on site?
There will be limited portable toilets on site, including an accessible portable toilet.
Can I take photos or record the experience?
Amateur photos and videos are permitted. Feel free to take photos and videos and share them. Make sure to tag @mahomagicbar on social media! Professional equipment and tripods are not permitted.

Cloak check available?
Maho Magic Bar does not have a cloak check.
Do I have a dress code?
Maho Magic Bar is suitable for smart casual clothing.
Is there an age requirement?
Evening shows (start time from 5pm onwards): Evening performances are recommended for audiences aged 12+ with parental guidance. Maho Magic Bar is a licensed bar and show and, unless otherwise stated, is recommended for mature audiences. All guests under 18 years of age must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult.
Daytime shows (start time prior to 4pm): Special family friendly performances are held in the afternoons on Saturdays and Sundays and are suitable for 6+years with parental guidance. Please note, Maho Magic Bar is a licensed bar and show and all guests under 18 years of age must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult.
Do children need to pay for a ticket?
Tickets are required for all attendees of Maho Magic Bar, except for children 2 and under who can sit on a parents lap.
Are strollers/prams allowed?
Strollers and prams are permitted during the family friendly matinees on weekend afternoons. There is, however, limited space and you may be required to leave your pram or stroller outside.
