Required Assignment

Optional Assignments

Posted is the link for the REQUIRED ASSIGNMENT this week. It is a webquest that involves analyzing real time data of the spread and transmission of the Coronoavirus. Optional Enrichment Activities are CK12 assignments (details on google classroom) on Viruses and reading the free online book "THE HOT ZONE".

Week 2: Mar 30 - Apr 3

Students will analyze data to clarify and seek additional information for what causes cancer cells to be different from normal cells. They have five short assignments that are REQUIRED. Students will have to look at data or watch a video to formulate questions and develop sound explanations of how normal cells are different than cancer cells. All assignments are on Google Classroom under Week 2 Online Biology Learning. Optional assignments are also posted on Google Classroom under Week 2 Online Biology Learning.

Week 2 Online Biology Learning Link

Week 3: Apr 6 - Apr 10

Students will explore how a cell knows when to divide and when not to divide by working with a model of the cell cycle to learn what causes normal cells to regulate the cell cycle. Students have an introductory video to watch, an interactive model and accompanying worksheet, Edpuzzle, and a formative assessment to complete.

Week 3 Online Biology Learning Link

Week 4: Apr 13 - Apr 17

Students will explore what happens if there is a mistake in the DNA. Students will ask questions about patterns in the variations in the p53 gene that affects whether difference species get cancer. Students have to answer a pre-lesson question, read an article on the naked mole rat, and watch two videos on naked mole rat genes. All assignments are on Google Classroom under Week 4 Online Biology Learning.

Week 4 Online Biology Learning

Week 5: Apr 20 - Apr 24

This week we will celebrate Earth Day! Students will explore TEK B.12(E) to describe how environmental change can impact ecosystem stability in order to analyze the origins and history of Earth Day. Students have pre-lesson questions to answer, an article to read with embedded videos, and a reflection assingment. Students also have a fun, creative optional assignment to complete this week. All assignments are on Google Classroom under Week 5 Online Biology Learning.

Week 5 Online Biology Learning

Week 6: Apr 27 - May 1

Students will explore what happens if there is a mistake in the DNA. Students will ask questions about patterns in the variations in the p53 gene that affects whether difference species get cancer. Students will watch a video about cancer in Callifornia Sea Lions and complete an analysis worksheet. Students will then watch an introductory video on dimensional analysis and complete five practice problems. All assignments are on Google Classroom under Week 6 Online Biology Learning.

Week 6 Online Biology Learning

Week 7: May 4 - May 8

Students this week will work on developing their goals for next year, reflect on their accomplishments, and will show kindness to those around them. Students will also have the opportunity to continue to learn about human biology and explore the errors that led to the Crash of Flight 143 (using advanced dimensional analysis). All assignment are on Google Classroom under Week 7 Online Biology Learning.
